Great Series!!!
My son and I are reading the books together in the evenings and we are loving them. We never want to stop reading often staying up well past bed time to finish an extra chapter or two. Highly recommend!!!

What a wonderful series!
When my son (35) was about 14-15, he found these books. He so enjoyed them that I read them too so I could see what he was reading and we could talk about the story. We both enjoyed every book in the series and now we are starting his son on the series. I know my grandson will enjoy the books as much as I and my son have.

The Ranger's Apprentice is a good read. A simple story line with some intriguing moments. Characters are easy to follow and get behind.

A good start to an excellent series.
Found this book in our local library for my son last summer (age 8, very strong reader). He liked it so well (checked it out 3x) that we bought him his own copies of the series! In fact, my whole family read and enjoyed them. A couple of notes on this one: there are a couple of (entirely unnecessary) swear words in this book (and the second, maybe third too); seems like the author got feedback that his readers didn't need or want that, so the rest of the series is profanity-free. A few mildly-annoying (to us) factual mistakes about horses, as well. Otherwise, this is an engaging first entry to a series that only gets better as it goes. Engaging male protagonist (a small, almost runty, orphan boy); strong female secondary character(s); themes like giving up an impossible dream to find something better, the value of hard work and discipline, everyone having a strength, and turning an enemy/bully into a friend over time -- all this makes the series one I'm glad to have my son grow up on. But be prepared for your child to start asking for bows/arrows, a camouflage cloak, etc. to play Ranger!
