Odd Beginning
Small Spoilers included in review - pertaining to odd beginning.Bait is a book that started off rather oddly. We are introduced to the main character Bay-Lee Van Halesing who is awoken by Tyler Beck a rock star who has broken into her bedroom or ,has her Uncle actually let him in ? All in the first six pages & a little more that I'll refrain from mentioning as it pertains to the main them of the book. Making this books first impression on me to be; headed towards the deleted list with a irresponsible parental figure, perverted rock star and a young girl... reading a little farther to see just where this author was going with this. I found it veering off into the paranormal book I was expecting and not into where first impressions hinted towards. Yes , I have found those in other young adult books. The storyline from there until chapter Five had a bit a lull that had me putting it aside for a time, unsure if I would actually finish it or banish it to the deleted book list. A bout with the flu had me attempt to read it a second time.I will say this by Chapter's 5 through 28 are the most interesting parts of the story. There is enough to the book to have me interested in book 2.There are some flaws to this book that I wish weren't there.*referring to a bass player as a base player.* uncertainty of age as Tyler Beck is sometimes treated like one of Bay-Lee's peers other times he is treated as an adult.* If you remember the line * Save the cheerleader save the world* from the t.v. show Hero's *The prophecy* will remind you of that.It takes until 53% before we get what the prophecy is, and then it is only half of it, only for the prophecy to continuously be mentioned still. In summary the book is a better book then what I first expected

Addictive
In a Hogwarts-esque school in New Zealand, Bay-Lee starts school at the lowest rank: Bait. This would normally mean she's deemed of little use more than to lure monsters (werewolves, vampires, and a large host of new creatures). But Bay-Lee is also Van Helsing's daughter, trained by the best and destined for greatness. Step one, advance to the rank of Hunter. Step two, exact revenge on the werewolves that killed her mother. Somewhere in between, she reluctantly falls in love with exactly the wrong young man. This book was totally addictive. I loved the elements of suspense, mystery, action, and romance. Bay-Lee and Nick are both well-layered, deep characters, and the world Kasi Blake has created for them will definitely provide a lot of room for even more growth. No spoilers ... so I can't say too much ... but I immediately got book 2.Note: This is YA, and thus is pretty "clean". That said, some might object to the use of alcohol and the age difference between the two main characters. There are no sex scenes, but there is definitely a strong sensual connection.

An Intense Paranormal Read!
From the opening pages, I was hooked! Questions needing answers nagged at me, urging me to read on. The world Kasi Blake created was plausibly vivid and intense. The action scenes were fierce and powerful. Surprises from one chapter feed the next creating bridges that weaved and increased the intrigue and tension. They stirred the story in ways I didn’t see coming, which I loved; this made it hard to put the book down. One of my favorite things about this story was how more than one mystery propelled it forward. There was always something for me as the reader to contemplate. As the tale progressed, twists and turns began to contradict each other, intensifying the mystery and especially the urgency . . . And okay, I just loved the last line! I look forward to reading what comes next in this story!

I should start off say I did enjoy this book and I think the author is talented
3.5I'm conflicted on what I should rate this. In fact I wasn't going to review it at all. I'm not sure why I changed my mind, but I wish I didn't wait so long because now I'm sure I forgot a lot of what I would have said. I should start off say I did enjoy this book and I think the author is talented. She did a good job at bringing it all together and not leaving a lot of loose ends. So often after I read a book I can think of a million things that don't make sense or were just forgotten about. It didn't happen in this book. If it wasn't for one issue I could easily give it 4 or 4.5. But my one issue kept rolling over into more issues within the one major issue. Ok, I doubt that even made sense. My issue- How we were not told what the secret/prophecy was until halfway (maybe even more) through the book. Now I have no problem with being kept in suspense. In fact I understand it can be necessary to keep a book going and interesting and all that jazz. It happens all the time, I have no problem with it in general. My issue with it in this book is that it was talked about on ever other page!! The prophecy would be talked about all the time with every different character. I started to get really annoyed and began skimming the book so I could find out. The kicker is I didn't want to skim because I was enjoy the book and I didn't want to miss anything but I just couldn't take it! You don't want to reveal the prophecy to soon, I get that, really I do. But don't have it come up in every conversation on every other page. Once everything was out in the open I could go back to enjoy it, which I did

it was a real problem that detracted from my enjoyment of the tale
This is an entertaining story that leaves room for to be carried on with the series. The only criticism I have is that there is a lot of head hopping, and abrupt scene changes, leaving the reader trying to figure out what’s happened. This is one of my pet peeves, so it really bothered me, especially when it occured in spots where I was really getting into the flow of story. For me, it was a real problem that detracted from my enjoyment of the tale. The story itself is great, highly entertaining, but the unsuspected switches are distracting, pulling the reader out of the story each time.

Wow what a great read
I downloaded this as a free book an it was the best free read I ever read.all I can say is wow! It made u want to laugh and cry I. Could not put it down there were surprises at every turn an kept me hooked all the way through. The two main characters were great Bay a strong female lead who was sassy and strong but not irritating like most female leads and Nick the handsome hero and love interest he kept trying to stay away but couldn't and the ending was very sad just when things were working in their favour fate steps in an ruins it I was nearly in tears at the end.I think k c Blake is one of the best story tellers I have come across this year just read it if you.like a paranormal romance with a difference it will keep you hooked until the end just downloaded the second book and can't wait to start so I'm going now so I can happy reading.

Good book. It started off slowly and I wasn't sure if I liked it, but it built up to be more action and in the end I was in tears! I will be reading the rest of the series.
