pioneer htp-071 system
the system arrived very quickly and in good shape. it is larger and heavier than I expected but is no problem for me. if someone is very cramped on space to put it ,it could be a problem. the system sounds great in our very large room and has excellent sound. the subwoofer is awesome. we had a dvd laying on top of it and at one point the sound jumped in the movie we were watching and the dvd was thrown off of the woofer. it was very easy to set up as it just takes a hdmi cable from the cable box to the sound system and one to the tv. it has four hdmi inputs and they are clearly marked for which component plugs into that particular port. I would recommend this unit to my friends. it also has AM and FM tuners installed but we did not install the antennas as our cable system has dedicated music channels.

Lasted 10 months!
I had this item for 10 months. It worked great until suddenly I started getting a blue image going through all the HDMI inputs. Tried reseating all the HDMI cords. NOW NONE OF THE HDMI PORTS WORK. The receiver is nearly useless now. The optical audio port appears to be the only port working. Contacted the seller and they refused to help or provide any type of credit.

EXTREMELY Satisfied
I bought this product to replace an older system I had that would not work well with Blu-Ray Discs (no HDMI inputs/outputs). I did a lot of research and read many reviews on home theatre systems and determined this Pioneer system would give me the biggest bang for my buck (being on a budget). AM I GLAD I DID!!! This is a tremendous system and the sound quality is absolutely exceptional!

Four stars about right - Not!
I really do like it for the price. It gets the job done in my apartment, but it probably doesn't have enough oomph for a full sized house or a really large living room. The highs can be a touch tinny and sometimes the mid-bass sounds a little thin, but lots of 5.1 systems that use satellites for fronts suffer from the same maladies, and at significantly higher levels than this Pioneer system shows. It does do a much better job at reproducing movie output than it does music, and it takes quite a bit of playing with the system to get stereo to sound half way decent. Still, twiddle on, you can get there.Still, if you are looking for an acceptable 5.1 system for like an apartment, dorm, or a bedroom you could do a lot worse that this for a lot more money; overall, a pretty good value.Update 12 Jun 14 - Just ditched the crappy zipcord that came with this for the speakers and used a good quality 16awg cable instead. Help the mid-bass tremendously and smoothed out the tinny highs. Makes a world of difference!! Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $20. You'll be glad you did.Update 1 Aug 14 - Well, I've now pretty much ditched the whole system as my main entertainment center and relegated it to service in the bedroom. The speakers were all of such poor sensitivity that the receiver would start clipping and shutdown at anything above 50% volume. That might not be a problem if you could actually hear anything out of them at 40% or less volume. I spent weeks fiddling with the settings trying to remedy the problem with no results. I finally got a pair of floor mounted JBLs with decent sensitivity to replace the fronts, and that helped some with the clipping, but the center still had problems recreating dialog at any reasonable volume setting. Finally got tired of the clipping shutdowns and replaced the receiver with a Denon. Now the system has been moved to my bedroom where it seems to be a bit better suited to the smaller room. Still, I have to say I've been overall disappointed with this equipment and had to take another star off the rating. I would say 2 1/2 would be a better rating, but since I am still getting some use out of it in the new environment I conceded and rounded back to 3 stars.

Very satisfied overall. Great sound quality and no video quality loss during pass-through.
Pros: Sounds great, easy setup. Speakers are wall-mountable with the included attachment. Video and audio quality have no loss going through the receiver. I have tested this with PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One and WiiU. So far so good!Cons: One of my HDMI ports is bad, it only produces video, no audio. I would like to see two Optical ports but not a deal breaker.Other thoughts: I have a 5-port HDMI switcher connected to this and still see no loss in audio or video wuality. Full 5.1 DD comes through clearly.

just plain bad luck.
tonight i read all the other reviews on this, which were steller, and talked me in to driving over and getting this receiver to replace my samsung dvd surround sound that just went out. after spending all night thinking it was something i was doing wrong during the setup, i got it to play excellent surround sound audio. it sounded exactly like i wanted it to. HOWEVER i couldn't get any picture on my tv. i tinkered with the settings for a while, then went and read the rest of the instructions. i called my trouble shooting guy who thought of a few things i hadn't thought of like trying with everything in analog instead of hdmi because i might need to go through some menu items to set up hdmi channels. no luck. called cust service and after trying it on yet another tv, it still didn't work. we finally decided it had a bad hdmi card because HDMI out simply wouldn't work. I'm happy the rest of the customers didn't get a lemon; and i still hear that pioneer is a good brand from reviews. i have a few friends that have said pioneer's gone to hell in the past few years. nothing personal against them, if you choose to get one hopefully you can write another great review for them. I just had to share my frustration with the world in case someone wants to hear the bad side of this item and about the poor guy that stayed up all night thinking "surely this is human error and not the hdmi out..." nope. i feel very unfortunate because of this item.
