A 3/16" THICK FULL-TANG WEDGE OF 440C HOLLOW-GROUND GOODNESS
EDGE GETS ***EXTREMELY*** SHARP USING A LOW-ANGLE GRIND. BLADE WORKS AS A SHORT PRY BAR SO LONG AS YOU DON'T STRESS THE TIP OR EDGE WHERE IT TAPERS. SHEATH CLIP HOOKS ONTO BELT OR MOLLE (YES MOLLE) TO KEEP IT IN PLACE WHEN WITHDRAWING KNIFE. FOR ME THE SIZE IS PERFECT TO HOLD TIGHTLY IN A HAMMER GRIP WITH ONLY THE BLADE AND BUTT OF THE TANG EXPOSED, GOOD FOR THRUSTING AND SMASHING, OR WITH MY THUMB ON THE SPINE AT THE JIMPING FOR CONTROL. THE SMALLER SIZE ELIMINATES WORRY THAT IT COULD BREAK FROM THE RELATIVE BRITTLENESS OF STAINLESS STEEL COMPARED TO CARBON STEEL. THE 440C STEEL IS BETTER THAN AUS-8. JUST A GREAT LITTLE CURVED WEDGE OF A KNIFE FOR CHEAP. HOW TO PURCHASE AN MTECH: (1) MAKE SURE TO GET THE RIGHT QUALITY MTECH FOR YOUR NEEDS. THERE IS "MTECH USA" AND "MTECH USA XTREME." MTECH USA USUALLY IS MADE FROM 440 STEEL (PROBABLY 440A) WITH A THINNER BLADE, LOWER WEIGHT, AND COSTS LESS. MTECH USA XTREME LIKE THIS MODEL IS USUALLY MADE FROM 440C STEEL WITH A THICKER BLADE AND COSTS MORE (STILL INEXPENSIVE THOUGH). THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO USUALLY COMES DOWN TO 440 VS. 440C STEEL, STEEL THICKNESS AND WEIGHT. (2) MAKE SURE YOU GET A NEW MTECH. YOU CAN TELL BECAUSE MTECH ALWAYS TAPES ITS BOXES CLOSED AND WRAPS THE BOX CONTENTS IN PLASTIC. SO CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU GET A NEW, UNOPENED BOX WITH THE CONTENTS PROPERLY WRAPPED -- OTHERWISE IT HAS BEEN OPENED AND IS NOT NEW. (3) INSPECT EVERYTHING CAREFULLY. IN THE PAST SOME MODELS (THE MT-151) HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH BENT BLADES. NOT SURE WHY. ANYWAY, INSPECT IT TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS STRAIGHT. (4) SECURE ANY SCALE SCREWS WITH LOCTITE RED. THIS MODEL MAY REQUIRE SOME READJUSTMENT OF THE SCALE POSITIONING SO THAT THEY ARE FLUSH AGAINST THE EDGE OF THE TANG. (5) LIGHTLY SHARPEN AS NEEDED. MTECHS DO NOT SEEM TO REQUIRE ANY LENGTHY SHARPENING TO GET AN EXTREMELY SHARP EDGE. THIS WAS EXTREMELY SHARP OUT OF THE BOX. (6) CONSIDER WHETHER YOU NEED A BETTER SHEATH. MTECH SHEATHS ARE BASIC AND FUNCTIONAL, USUALLY NYLON REINFORCED WITH PLASTIC AND A LOOP FASTENED BY SNAP OR VELCRO TO KEEP THE KNIFE FROM FALLING OUT. BUT FOR SOME PURPOSES YOU WILL WANT A MORE ADVANCED SHEATH GIVING YOU BETTER OPTIONS. THIS SHEATH IS PLASTIC WITH A GOOD BELT CLIP WHICH STAYS ON EVEN WHEN PULLING HARD ON THE KNIFE TO GET IT OUT. FOR ME I NEED NO REPLACEMENT BECAUSE THE STOCK SHEATH WORKS GREAT. YOU CAN HEAT IT UP AND POSITION THE KNIFE TO GET A SMOOTHER ACTION WITH THE PLASTIC SHEATH. (7) ENJOY! YOU WILL PROBABLY FIND THAT YOU HAVE A GREAT KNIFE AT A LOW PRICE.

Surprising versatility & quality for this price point
I am impressed as heck with this knife. I took it on a 3 day motorcycle camping trip last week & used it for many tasks & it stayed sharp & worked great for all of them. I cut some small limbs off a tree for my hammock lines, Batoned some small limbs for kindling, used the pommel to pound in my tent spikes, used it to cut my steak for dinner one night, made some feather sticks for the fire & used it with my ferro rod to throw sparks to start the fire every night. I didn't even use my favorite large knife that I usually use for these tasks while camping. The sheath is great, I rotated the belt clip to wear horizontally as that is more comfortable on my motorcycle & then put it around my neck in the evenings at camp. This has been in heavy rotation in my EDC items. The 2 things that surprised me the most about this knife is how versatile it is with the blade shape & length & how comfortable the handle is. I always thought you needed at least a 5" blade for a good camp/utility knife, but this knife has proved me wrong. So far I have only needed to run it on my strop a few times to keep a super sharp edge on it. Both my riding buddies ordered one of these after seeing it in action. This is my third MTech product & I am really impressed by the bang for buck factor on all 3 of them. Micarta & G10 are my favorite handle materials & this one has really nice micarta handle scales that look good as well as feel good in the hand.

Cool knife brah
Cool knife, just not a fan of the sharp unfinished edges on the handle. And the sheath design is a little goofy. Every time you pull the knife out, little shavings of plastic come with it. The knife was plenty sharp straight out of the box though, and it is a cool design. Not gonna try cutting conduit or anything with this, I know it's no Benchmade. For my purposes it cuts fine and the size/fit is perfect for the hand and unobtrusive on the hip. It's functional and easy to use. Nice value knife.

Good, solid work knife at a great price.
Picked this little baby up while it was on sale for 8 bucks. I was in the market for a solid, relatively compact do-all chore blade, and this knife certainly delivers. I am doing this review after a couple month's hard use. So far, I have used this knife as a light pry bar (the thick steel really helps), scraper, light digging, skinning, cutting up boxes, and some moderate Baton work while camping. It just keeps taking the abuse, and fixes right up with a bit of oiling, and good sharpening. The general shape of the knife allows for a variety of cutting, and also means its pretty easy to sharpen. Didn't start off the prettiest, and it has only gotten uglier with use, but I bought this as a beatstick, so i'm more than happy with how it's turned out. Did have some issues with the sheath, like many others, but I just kept drawing it in and out, until it quit sticking. Despite that, it still has solid retention, and it hasn't fallen out the times I stored it on my belt upside down (and even if it did, the knives are still pretty cheap to replace). Something to keep in mind, is once you have the too tight sheath sorted, to practice actually drawing the knife out. It comes out at an angle, and replacing the knife one-handed, without looking can be a bit tricky. The handle works quite well, even for big meaty mitts like mine, and i have full control while using it. If you're looking for a good, cheap, solid do-all beat stick, I highly recommend this knife. It suits my needs in a handy, compact package. I am most definitely ordering more soon.

Can't really be to hard on a 15 dollar knife
What I like first is the price. I really don't like spending too much on anything from Amazon. Secondly the knife is heavy and feels good in my hands like in a last ditch scenario. I fully accept that it is made from budget steel. I don't plan on using it for any kind of work knife or beater knife. It is part of my collection of inexpensive neck knives. What I don't like is the sheath. The blade locks in fine. You can hear it click in. But becomes practically impossible to get it out. Would be useless if needed in a hurry. It is a little heavy and large for a neck knife but I like it. I will try to adjust the sheath screws, remove the belt clip to see if that makes a difference. This just maybe the luck of the draw that I got a bad sheath. This makes me cautious about a thumbs up recommendation. But the knife is thick and in a MacGyver type of situation it's far better than having nothing

Great knife as starter.
Great knife . Good tempering and heat process. Easy to get a razor edge on such a thick durable blade. Sheath is great too. I recommend this to anyone. Plus with a little creativity, you can make it better by a handmade Spartan helmet and shield paracord strap and lanyard. I then patina the blade for extra protection. See photo.

Nice...
It's a bargain under 20$ Deceiving in the photo vs feel, the feel is excellent... The 3/16"( roughly) thick mystery steel came with no bite? But took to stone well and easy, and ten strokes later was shave-able. What got me on this blade was its heft vs, size, and I expected to be disappointed in the handle although it's nice linen micarta with good screw-mounts but as it turns out, it's just right? There's some jimp, and there's some tang, and it turns out there's swell enough that it's like an invisible larger handle there... Very impressed with design, and if needed, you can Remove he scales (if you have the tool) and make a right nice spear... Given there's already 2 lash points you would now have four, which is the magic #. For stabbing fish and bears oh my? Nice kydex-ish sheath don't worry about fit... You can custom adjust with hairdryer to suit you. What's cool is you have neck lanyard, but also highly coveted screwed on steel boot clip, which can easily be turned 90% to side carry belt clip... Overall.. If a tool is about its function-and-ability to stay with you, this is on par. I don't know how well this edge can deal with bush as I haven't had time, but it's easy to sharpen and has all the signs that won't need as much as many others I've paid more for.

Great knife on a budget!
I bought this knife based off the other reviewers review. The knife arrived just as he had stated, with a white film on it. I took the handle off, rubbed it down with a dry cloth (did not need oil). I washed the micarta handles and put it back together. Looks like it should come new but for $14 how can you complain. The construction is solid. No flaws that I can see in the milling or with the grind. The slab of steal is very thick so it will take a beating and keep going. 440 Stainless is decent steal, especially for $14. It was semi sharp but a few minutes on my Sharpmaker and she's as sharp as my other knives. On to the one bad part, the sheath. I actually cut my hand trying to pull this out the first time. It looks to me that they melted the kydex onto the knife and the shipped it out (this could be what the white film is from) and this causes it to not come out due to the blade design. As the other reviewer stated, once I had the knife out I pushed it part of the way in, maybe half. Then I used a lighter (a heat gun would be more efficient but I was being lazy) and heated the kydex till it was hot. Let it cool and harden again and now the blade slides in and out like it should. If you look at the sheath and can see it molded for the blade design but it won't pull out because the part just before the micarta handle is half the size of the blade. I would recommend this blade to anyone as it is a very good knife, especially for $14. Just be aware that you will have to clean it up when you get it and slightly modify the sheath. Oh, and sharpen it if you want it razor sharp like I do!
