PHILIPS LIGHTOLIER S5R927K7 5" Round LED light fixture
Excellent and versatile product. A great choice for either retrofit or brand new installation. They look pretty much just like a regular recessed light, just a bit more edge depth on these, nothing too bulky. An big advantage over traditional cans is that they don't require the bulky assembly up in the joist or rafter space, therefore much easier / faster to install and fewer (maybe none?) issues w/ attic insulation coverage / overheating etc.I used three of these as replacements for some 20 yr old directional fixtures in my Kitchen. They fit into standard round and rectangular J-boxes, in my case round ones. Install is straight fwd, just follow attached instructions re: attach mounting plate to J-box, make wire connections, press fixture up into place. That's about it.They are brighter than I expected but can be dimmed, so I will order a dimmer switch. Color is also very good, not quite the warmth of incandescent but not glaring white like fluorescent. They are also available in square config and a small dome. They can also be used in damp locations (by the addition of caulking at the back of trim).I'd recommend them and will probably order more. Ultimately tho', I'm curious about how long the driver (little box on rear side) will last. There's plenty of info re: bulb life but not a lot regarding this driver.

Good product, but has lower than average light output. Consider 7" version instead.
I bought one of these to test for a basement remodel application. These slim surface mount lights have a huge advantage for ceilings where ducts or other obstructions preclude using normal (deep) can lights, and the 2700K color is good. I picked this 650 lumen unit because I have used 625 lumen CREE retrofit units in my kitchen to great effect.I wired a plug-in cord to the S5R927K7 and held it up beside one of the kitchen CREE lights. The light output is FAR less, so I started researching, by looking at the published technical data for both units. According to the Philips Lightolier spec sheet, it appears to me the 650 lumen rating is a "nominal" rating for all color versions of this unit. The 3000K version actually tests at 625 lumens, but the same spec sheet rates the 2700K version at 395 lumens, less than 2/3's of the nominal 650 lumen rating mentioned.Rather than avoiding this fine product, I suggest just being aware that the 5 in unit puts out less light. I am going to try to solve my problem by using the 7" version, which is about the same outside diameter as the CREE replacement units, and puts out 771 lumens per the Philips spec sheet. If you need more light, the 7" version costs only a few more dollars.

Good quality, but beware of a few things...
This light is well made, and I suppose it's bright enough, but not as bright as I expected. The color of the light is very natural, though. Turns on nearly instantly.A couple of warnings for anyone considering purchasing this light to replace a room light with one of these:1) Double check that your ceiling box is big enough (needs to be 3" *round* or 4 1/2 octagonal). I had a 3" octagonal box and it wouldn't fit. I ended up replacing the ceiling box with 4 1/2 octagonal, which as you might imagine is not a particularly easy task.2) The light from this fixture shines mostly downward, and very little to the walls and none to the ceiling. This would be fine for a hallway, but not particularly good for a room (or walk-in closet where I installed mine).

We used these light fixtures in a lofted ceiling that followed the roof line. Since we used spray foam insulation we did not have room to put in traditional recessed lights. These fixtures really worked out well, and you don't really notice that they are not recessed.

Great product.
Looks good, warm color better than the 2700k of other lights. Only negative is the mounting plate is small and if your outlet box is even just a bit larger than the outlet box you will be struggling to get the light to snap in.
