Since its foundation in 1930, CITIZEN has promoted a multi-cultural mindset that fosters excellence and creativity. The very name of the brand conveys a deep respect toward craftsmanship and considered as familiar by citizens the world-over. So as a “citizen” of the world, we bear the responsibility to help cultivate a culture of positive change and on-going evolution through our craft. We take that mission seriously and steadfastly welcome what the future may bring. As a true manufacture d’horlogerie, CITIZEN integrates a comprehensive manufacturing process from creating individual components to a watch’s final assembly. It’s an artisan’s approach to watch making based on pushing forward the boundaries of technology and leveraging our experience toward exploring new possibilities. One pivotal technological breakthrough was the development of a light-driven watch. CITIZEN pioneered this engineering innovation well ahead of other watch manufacturers as early as 1976, which led to the launch of the highly acclaimed Eco-Drive in 1995. Utilizing electrical power converted from virtually any light source, this extraordinary innovation changed forever the way watches could be powered. Eco-Drive eliminated the need to ever replace batteries, which made it especially beneficial to areas where such specialist batteries were not obtainable. This leveled the field for citizens of virtually every country to be able to experience unrestricted joy of wearing and using a CITIZEN watch. The product development policy, “The Fusion of Technology and Beauty,” remains a constant motivation for us to merge cutting-edge technology with perfection of design beauty, which as a consequence inspires people to strive to be their best at any time. CITIZEN launches a new campaign in collaboration with Wieden+Kennedy, Better Starts Now. This is the simple belief that no matter who you are or what you do, it is always possible to make something better — and now is the time to start doing it. We believe that better and now are both infinite, and that there is always a next ‘better’ and a new ‘now’ in which you can start pursuing it. It was clear from the onset of this project that we are dedicated to this ideal…not to the past but to the present, and all the way we can improve it. To help communicate this belief to the world we have created a new global CITIZEN brand movie, brand identity and brand website that represents out Better Starts Now philosophy. Citizen Eco-Drive presents this gold tone watch with black leather strap. The silver dial is accented with blue tone Roman numerals at each hour, blue tone hands and date display. Citizen Eco-Drive is fueled by light, any light, so it never needs a battery.

Great quality.
This watch is beautiful and the quality is amazing as expected from this brand, I love the way it looks and the size is perfect for my small wrist (6 inches around). The hands and numbers are metallic blue, they change color depending on how the light reflects on them, they go from really dark blue (almost black) to metallic light blue depending on how much light there's around. I have attached photos for you to see.The leather strap is beautiful but stiff, as you may expect with any leather product at first, but I'm sure it'll feel better after some time wearing it.Yes, the date number is difficult to read, not only because the number size is small, but because the shadow of its window creates a dark outline around the number making it look even smaller. The solution is light, place your wrist near a window (during the day of course), a lamp or a source of bright light and the shadow disappears and the number is easier to read. I wear glasses and I can barely see anything that's near, but I can read this watch's date when is under a good source of light with no problem. After weeks of daily wear, I haven't had any problems with scratching of the face or any surface.I love the fact that I don't need to change batteries anymore, is not only saving me money, but environmentally responsible, I don't want my discarded batteries laying around in a landfill somewhere. Please read the instructions before you wear it, you can watch a video on how to set up the date and hour in the Citizen website. The box came without an instructions booklet, just 2 cards asking me to go to their website and read the instructions there, which was quick and easy to do. Also, if you prefer paper instructions, you can download a PDF instructions booklet from their website.Overall, this is the best watch I've had in years, the profile is thin, the watch is elegant and beautiful, light weight but solid in construction and quality, the metallic changing color of the hands is a great effect and the design just makes it look amazing.

A timeless classic
This watch is exactly what I had been looking for to no avail in the department stores. I had wanted a simple and easy to read watch face, not the bling and glitz that is "in" right now, just a quality watch that could be worn at any time, casual or dress. Not that I do much dress, I work with wildlife and need to keep track of time when I have to feed dozens of hungry little mouths. Running out to have a dead battery replaced is costly and the thing always dies when I am the busiest, so I was looking into self winding watches when the eco drive caught my eye. At first I thought there would be ugly panels alongside the clasp or watch band, but no, this technology is well hidden inside the watch. The inner circle sports a dainty off-white herringbone design and I assume that this is the part where light enters to power the gears. The outer circle, where the Roman numerals are, is an off-white mother of pearl. The numerals and hands are a metallic vivid blue and depending on the light they look almost black or striking blue. The date window is tiny but readable, though only with glasses now in my case. There is no day window, which for me means it is easier to set.The diameter of the watch is 1 3/16". But it doesn't look like a men's watch at all, it is just a comfortable size to see easily and wear. The black leather band feels a tad stiff because it's new but not uncomfortable at all. It measures 5/8" at the watch face and tapers to 1/2" at the clasp. In warmer weather I prefer leather bands because they breathe and don't stick as much as stainless steel bands. This is simply a gorgeous time piece and I am glad that I followed my gut when I saw it. The eco drive is just the icing on the cake: no more dead batteries, ever again! It worked flawlessly right out the box, and setting was a breeze. You can't go wrong with this one.

So I purchased this for a good lady friend of mine and she absolutely loves it
Gorgeous Citizen Watch! So I purchased this for a good lady friend of mine and she absolutely loves it. I also personally find it very attractive and I’m very fond of Citizen watches myself. They are very solid, durable and well made time pieces without question and an especially excellent value here on Amazon. With that said I think potential buyers should be aware of a few things:First, many of the “Reviews” mention the numbers are not the “same color / shade of color, etc..) as the genetic stock photo portrays (darker metallic blue vs. different shades depending on lighting/ other variables, etc.)So the genetic stock photos are NEVER a good example to go by for a 100% accurate portrayal of what a product will actually look like in real life with varying lighting conditions and so on.So if all the little details are of utmost importance to you (so much so that you’ll actually deduct a star because the numbers turn out to be a bit lighter / darker in color or whatever the case.) do yourself a favor and seek out real life photos (not hard to find) before committing on the purchase.Moving on, “The watch band in uncomfortable”... It’s new leather.. Just like new shoes often need to be “broken in” the same can also be true of other types of apparel such as watch bands.. I know pretty simple stuff but people actually deduct stars over this sort of thing..Last but not least, “I can’t see the date”. Okay sure the date isn’t the easiest thing in the world to read depending on the angle but if you honestly can not see the date on this watch you need corrective lenses. This is NOT the watches fault.Oh almost forgot.. “The watch has scratches now..” Yep the watch will actually get up on its own and “scratch itself”...That or the magical “scratch fairy” has a tendency to scratch it up when your not looking so be careful..So the reality is that the watch face is NOT “easily scratched”. Just because it’s not “sapphire” doesn’t somehow mean it will easily scratch.Of course, if you have a tendency to bang your wrist up against hard objects it my very well become a bit blemished / scratched.I’ve personally have had many watches with both Sapphire and Mineral crystal (like this watch) faces and have never had an issue with “scratching” but then again maybe I just haven’t had a bad run in with the scratch fairy yet...Moral of the story? As with anything here on Amazon the “rating” of a particular item unfortunately does NOT often give potential buyers a good sense of the items value.Ignorance is not “lack of intelligence” but it is “not knowing” and ignorance runs rampant. You always should keep this in mind when reading reviews. Don’t be lead down the wrong path via misinformation.
