No, mine had no smell at all. This is by far the best mattress pad I have had. 6 months on and it is still the same shape, no stretching at all. Great pad, highly recommend.

Yes. The pad is deep, with elastic all around. It fits very well, stays put on the bed. The main materials (bamboo and cotton) mean it's tops for cooling. I've been impressed with its comfort, which is exceptional. Have not had it long enough (only 2 washings so far) to know how long lasting it is, if that's what you mean by "sturdy." I purposely did not want a waterproof pad, becaise they are hot, and this is not. It's exactly as described. I love this product.

The cover is 100% bamboo, the backing 100% polyester. The fill is 100% cotton.
