Amazing Precipitation Obstructing Comfort (see what I did there)
Seriously though, this jacket is awesome!I live in the often rainy Seattle and favor backpacking around the region.I am no stranger to hiking and camping in the rain, and I do my best to prepare for it but I have yet to be satisfied with a rain shell, until I found the Apoc.I put this jacket to the test pretty quickly with a 9 hour hike where it rained the whole time, and I am not speaking figuratively here, there was precipitation in varying intensity coming down the entire hike, so much rain, in fact, that the overnight we were going to do ended up being a weighted day hike because all the sites were flooded. Despite all of this rain, and rain pants that soaked through within the first hour, this jacket kept me dry, still beading water (some minor wetness on the sleeves because water would run down my arm from the trekking poles, but not the jackets fault). It even out performed my girlfriends Arc'Teryx Beta AR (barely edged them out, but the jackets are pretty comparable price and features wise), and now she wants a Westcomb too. This jacket is still beading water and holding up well despite numerous trips in weather ranging from mist to thunderstorms to snow. This jacket also breathes really well. I have only had to use the pit vents a few times and have never "wetted out" the jacket with sweat or felt swampy. The fabric is weird (in a good way), as it is relatively soft for a hard-shell jacket and isn't nearly as crinkly as others I have seen, which I like.Everything cinches well, and my only complaint might be that the "velour" chin lining gets soaked in heavy rain if you don't keep the jacket all the way zipped up, but the velour is as soft as Zach Brannigan wants you to believe. The jacket looks great and works well when I have a rainy commute to work equally as well as a night out in the backcountry. In terms of fit: I am 5'11" and 140lbs, small fits me perfectly, with room to layer but not too bulky with just a t-shirt.Overall, very satisfied and would definitely recommend.
