Awesome series, and this upscale transfer is likely as good as it's going to get.
A note: This release is technically an "upscale" of the original master, which was done in standard definition. Due to the nature of the original compositing and mastering process, it's unlikely that this series will ever be in native HD. Essentially, the parts that made the master were digitized into SD originally, so the original master copy is only SD. So, unlike many films, there isn't an analog (or high-res digital) master copy they can go back to and simply rescan at higher resolution. (It's theoretically possible to redo it in HD if they rescanned the original art, redid the effects in HD, and then composited it all again onto an HD master... but that's a ton of work, basically producing the show over again. It was done for Cowboy Bebop though, but this series is not nearly as likely to get such treatment, since it's expensive to do.)Awesome series, and this upscale transfer is likely as good as it's going to get. A great quality upscale though, as good as I've ever seen anyway. This Blu Ray version is still better than the DVD, even if you have a player that will upscale DVDs (since this is an upscale of the original master and not of DVD compressed video). Audio quality is great too, no complaints there. A great deal at the price it is, for one of the most original and great anime series made thus far.

Definitely recommend
I stumbled across this series a few years back trying to get my fix on some much needed anime. And let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised. It's quickly become my favorite and I watch it over and over again. Beautiful art, animation and soundtrack. The characters are memorable and it has me chorting laughter a lot of the time. If you want violence, blood, humor, and vulgarity, this is your show. The box set comes with 7 discs that has 26 episodes (sadly). I highly, HIGHLY recommend this series.

Great mix of sword fights, comedy and Hip Hop
Samurai Champloo aired on Japanese TV from 2004-05. It was a great mix of samurai action, comedy and Hip Hop. It’s set in ancient Japan and followed three main characters, Mugen who was a loudmouth ronin (masterless samurai), Jin who was a quiet and reserved ronin, and Fuu a girl who is looking for a samurai that smells like sunflowers. Surprisingly very little is ever said about who this man is and why Fuu wants to find him.The connection between music and the show was right at the start as it had a Hip Hop theme song and the end of the opening credits has the title Samurai Champloo spinning around a record label. Sometimes it’s used in scenes such as the opening of one episode where a man beat boxes so a samurai can make a challenge to a man or another time when they run into three people on the road who rap about their next opponent.Hip Hop culture is also included such as one episode that features a group of graffiti artists in Hiroshima. The heart of the story is Fuu, Mugen and Jin traveling across Japan on their quest to find the sunflower samurai and running into all kinds of odd characters. One time Jin gets into a fight with an assassin gentlemen who gives up on the fight when he finds out that the man who hired him is dead and he won’t get paid. Fuu runs into an artist that works for a female Yakuza boss who kidnaps girls. Another time they run into a gay Dutchman who was drawn to Japan because of a book he found about gay love. There are tragedies as well like when Fuu meets a pick pocket trying to take care of his sick mother who ends up a victim of the law. Then Mugen runs into a n emotional disciplinarian who wants to teach him how to read. It’s all very entertaining and made this a standout anime series.

Fantastic animated series - not to miss
This animated series is awesome in its scope and execution. Cultural and historical references are juxtaposed with modern music and story lines. Animation and music combinations are amazing. I recommend watching in Japanese with English subtitles. The subtle ways in which things are pronounced adds to the interpretation, which can be lost a bit with the English language translation into spoken words. If you get used to watching the subtitles, you will get so much more from the stories with the spoken Japanese expression. Every detail is perfected in this and you are compelled to re-watch to grasp all the subtleties and to enjoy the visual and audio of this series.

The Quintessential Action/Ronin/Comedy Anime
The Samurai Champloo: The Complete Series is the quintessential action/comedy/ronin anime for all you sword-fighting savants out there! This modernized sword swinging hip-hop influenced story breaks the boundaries of dark humor, action, and adventure, seamlessly blending a new age funk style with the classical setting and art style typical to many Feudal Age samurai films/shows.The art style of this show can be likened mostly to shows like Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Bleach, featuring beautify lines, vibrantly colored set pieces with blurring, quick pace action sequences. This format of the Bluray is an AVC/1080p upconvert port, showing visible quality improvements from the previously released iterations fo this show sold a few years past. From the rich and storied musical selections, to the passionate, crisp English and Japanese voice acting, this show has something for all audiences. Great show, and an ever greater medium to watch it!

Very unique
This is a very unique anime. There really isn’t much to compare it to except maybe cowboy bebop. I enjoyed this anime but it’s not that great to me. Maybe I just don’t get the animes that seem to have a little bit of an identity crisis, but it just doesn’t make sense either you should be a mature anime or not and this one to me seems to teeter back in forth with childish silliness and then serious mature content. I’m not saying mature anime can’t be funny or silly but the silliness in this is more on the childish side(just my opinion). I liked the characters and at times I really liked it. The beginning was good and I thought I was going to like it a lot but then it kinda got weird a couple times and it seemed like they completely forgot what the goal of the story was, but the ending picked back up and was good. I want to like it more than I do but I just don’t. It’s still pretty good but I think it’s overrated.

NOT for KIDS
It's a cool anime, however... this is NOT FOR KIDS . Bought it for kids who love samurai anime. One day I heard cursing and adult language coming from their room .... rushed in and..... they're watching Samurai Champloo .I missed checking the age rating - MY FAULT, 14+ , and assumed its kids friendly like most anime. It was a big lost for kids but great gain for me. I loved it, awesome one, just don't watch it with young kids around.

This is a must have for any anime fan
This is easily one of the best anime ever made it may have a pretty simplistic story line to begin with however as the story goes on in the series it really grows and progresses. And it really captures your attention pretty quick and makes you want to keep watching to see what they are going to do next. And the animation is one of the best i have ever seen it's really good and the voice acting is outstanding. The show is really well balanced with good humour action and drama and can get really emotional at times which is very profound and the music is great as well. So if you are a really big anime fan and even if you're not this is definitely worth buying i doubt many people will regret getting this i sure didn't.

Samurai Champloo = AMAZING!
I am a huge fan of anime and I can say with absolute confidence that this is one of the best series I've had the privilege to come across. I love the story line, the soundtrack and the three main characters are all my favourites. You become so fond of them as the series goes on. The character development is soo great! The series has a great mixture of humour and action and each episode has its own unique story. It has an amazing flow to it. I find that is hard with a lot of animes but this series masters that. All in all it's an amazing watch and I would highly recommend it. It makes my top three favourite animes for sure. It deserves a lot of credit as I'm sure many people would enjoy it. It changed and impacted my life personally and everytime I see it I get the same sensations of beauty and amazement. I give it five stars and two major thumbs up! It really is terrific and I honestly cannot express how much I love this series.

10/10
This is hands-down my favourite series, and the speed in which I received it is astounding. For the price, and the quality of packaging, I was happy that the Complete Series was neither damaged or scuffed. For anyone that collects, this is a great buyer to shop with.

One of the best Anime.
This is one of the best anime's I have ever watched. Brought to us from the same creators of Cowboy Beebop, the style and storytelling in this show are completely unique. Its so visually pleasing, and the story and characters are interesting, and engaging. I love the touches of the modern mixed into the samurai period. Totally recommended.

Terrific!
Such an amazing series. Great characters and a soundtrack that's surprisingly good, even if you're like me and don't necessarily like hip-hop.

Blurry BluRay
This show is great! However, the quality on this "Blu ray" is very disappointing. When I first started playing it I thought I needed my glasses it was so blurry. It certainly doesn't compare to other Blu-rays I own.

love it, one of the better introductions to anime ...
grew up with this show, love it, one of the better introductions to anime without delving into the truly weird stuff that might turn off some people who are newer to the genre. the music in the series really caught me as something different.

Had high expectations, and it went even higher
Wow, where to start with this masterpiece: the music, the animation quality, the storyline, the characters... all perfectly developped and constantly evolving, fitting the show perfectly. I could go on and on, but will simply suggest you buy this anime classic.
