In the Words of Hall & Oates, "I can't go for that, no can do."
I have trouble with my Samsung TSST Ultra-Slim optical CD drive when it comes to reading CD's. I don't use this product for anything other than a CD drive for my Macbook Pro Retina, and when I place CD's in this drive to put music on iTunes from CD, I ALWAYS have trouble and get error messages. Always. I have been working today with 6 CD's while I am in my office... after about 20 tries per CD, I MIGHT get to load it Sometimes its sluggish with DVD's, but generally not.Let me mention here that I keep things well-maintained, and as a general rule have very little difficulties like this. Just yesterday I checked with Apple to make sure that I am running the latest version, and my Mac is running like a pro. I don't have any other ITunes issues presently, or with apps in general. This CD player seems to be my one little component that is simple not performing. If I were going to buy another one (and since this one appears to be giving me this much trouble, I might be doing that soon), I would not repurchase this unit.

NOT Mac compatible!
I guess I am not allowed to give it "NO" stars. A big waste of time - money - effort - it did NOT work on my MacBook Pro - looked online for software to install and make it work - tried several other avenues to get a home DVD made in time for a gift. Sent back because - once again - it was not compatible with my up to date MacBook Pro!

It's okay on the Surface pro 3
I just got this and it works okay with the Surface pro 3. I've had no problems playing and transferring music cds to my itunes/computer. The problem is that the 3.0 usb on the surface pro 3 doesn't supply enough power to do other things like burn discs or even read the complementary installation disc to write dvds. I will update my review when I get a usb hub and test the product again.

Total waste of money
DO NOT buy. This is the worst piece of crap ever. It took me a while to get around to using it after I first purchased, and now it's past the date to return it. Total disappointment. Basically, this is like a disposable disc reader. One-time use and then nothing. I've only successfully read one disc. Now, it sounds like it's a volcano about to erupt whenever I insert a disc. At first, it reads the disc, but then it always fails to read so it's essentially a useless piece of crap sitting on my desk now. Where can I recycle this thing?

Worked only 3 times
This worked only 3 times. That's it. I tried it with PC and Mac. I was very careful, always packing it in the box when it was not in use. The computer would sometimes recognize that the drive was attached, but it would never read the drive's file system.

Love it
I like little tiny computers! But little tiny computers do not have room for CD ROM and I still have some cherished media on them. This is a really cute little peripheral, and I love the way it opens. There is a button on top for ejecting and opening so I am not always trying to make my fat finger open the thing. It does what it is supposed to do and more conveniently than what I was used to. I would buy it again and recommend it.

Pretty good for the money
I bought this to use with my HP Stream laptop when I'm flying and so far after 4 months it has been great. It works good, it's light and easy to carry around but it's also very fragile. I use it for DVDs and have not been disappointed. I have not used it on my Mac yet and the blue colored one is a different tone of blue than the one pictured on the website. It is a lighter blue but overall I'm satisfied with it.

I purchased this to use with my MacBook Air. It works great. It has a slim profile so it travels nicely in my computer bag. This optical drive is "plug and play" so it is really easy to use. You plug one end of the provided cable into the optical drive and the other end into the USB slot of your laptop. There is one button on the optical drive that releases the tray. You place your DVD into the tray, slide the tray closed, and then a menu pops up on the screen of the laptop. It really is easy to use and I have not found anything that will not play on this. I have played DVD movies that I've purchased, but also some that I have "burned" and they all work well. The price could not be beat, especially compared to the one that Apple sells to use with the MacBook. I'm glad that I purchased this optical drive because it works well and I have not had any issues with it.

Samsung Slim DVD Player
My DVD player / drive inside my laptop broke down a few weeks ago & while i could send my laptop back to PC World to get it fixed I didn't like the idea of being without my laptop for 1-2 weeks so started looking for something I could play DVDs on & plugin to my laptop via USB.This brought me to the Samsung Slim DVD Writer. I don't need to save anything to disk, make DVDs / CDs or anything like that, I just wanted something to play them & it was perfect. It plugs in via a USB lead to my laptop (the lead comes with it), no need for any other leads, no need to install anything via the disk that comes with it. I really just plugged it in & started watching my DVDs again with no problems at all - and for the price it's perfect!

Great little drive for the money
I haven't had the power problems of other users, I have a few of these connected to a powered USB hub and rip DVDs to a central pool for multi-machine distributed Handbrake ripping. My only minor gripe is the position of the eject button, when the drives are stacked up it is impossible to get a the eject button. Ejecting in software is easy enough though. Just for a laugh, I connected the drive to the TV and I can play DVDs directly into the USB port of the TV, not useful feature for me, but it could help someone in a squeeze. This drive does need a decent amount of power from the USB port for burning at full speed and many computers short change devices on the power available at the USB port.

Worth getting, dont expect miracles
Works as said. It's a little noisy but calms down once it's read the disk, you have to ensure it does not tilt but it dead flat or it will grate the disk and possibly stop. Had times where it refuses to read the disk and shuts down and I've been through a lot of unplugging and replugging but it comes back in the end. Worth getting when your macbook lacks an disk drive 🙃

Great little drive for the money
Great little drive for the money. Please do heed the advice given by others and purchase a double USB cable as the drive really struggles with the supplied single cable. The only disappointing thing about mine is it does rattle a bit in use and it dances its way across my desk, but it'll do.

Very Good Value
At these prices, I can afford extra drives for various DVD regions (so much for rights protection). It's flimsy by old standards but it's very compact and it works well, so I'm happy.

Good looking DVD drive works well
Used with a Windows 10 Dell laptop to watch DVDs. Looks good and works well; has not given any problems. Thin and light and only requires the supplied USB cable so easy to carry around. Excellent value at the price paid.

Unreliable DVD drive
DVD writer took some time to arrive. Didn't actually look brand new but since it was cheap I thought I would give it a go.Seemed to work at first but is now very erratic. Will read one disk then refuse the next even ones that are in perfect condition. I am going to return it as faulty.

Doesn't quite get enough power from my MacBook air, so i have to use a power USB hub to get it to work. Once it has the power it works briliantly though. And it's a lovely colour.
