When is 3" not 3"?
Lot's of features to cover. But first, when is 3" not 3"? My trees do not grow in a straight line. Branches tend to go off in all directions, twisting and turning every foot or so. So, even though the claim for this chipper is that it will cut 3" limbs, it will ONLY DO IT IF THE BRANCH IS ONE LONG STICK. Any bend in the branch and you can't feed it through the foot-long feeding tube.Same for the top hopper: it will easily take leaves and such, but as far as lightweight branches goes, you can throw them into the chute, but they won't make it through the opening to the 4" blad. The chipper has a very strong motor that can handle 3" trunks, but the reality is that a simple 1" or .5" branch won't go through the feeder if it has any curves in it. a twig the size of a pencil won't go through either the top hopper or side (3") feeder if it has any bends in it.So, if you have a picture-book-straight tree, this chipper will be ideal. If you have a REAL tree, this chipper's capabilities become severely hobbled. What it does cut, it cuts quickly and fiercely with the might of a motor that just won't quit!My output bag split its seam on the first use. Also, tires wear out quickly and replacement tires are hard to find.Summary: this machine has a powerful motor. The input and output mechanisms need to be redesigned to make the thing work up to the motor's capabilities.

Chips and Shreds Fine - But Can't Use it Because the Gas Cap Leaks
The chipping and shredding functions work great. However, my machine has less than 20 hours on it, and fuel keeps bubbling up through the gas cap. The cap is threaded properly and the tank is not overfilled. Even with the tank being only three-quarters full, I can't run the machine for more than one or two minutes before gas bubbles up through the cap and starts running down the front of the machine. Cap is in great shape, so that "shouldn't" be the problem...but this issue renders the machine absolutely useless, since I don't want to worry about sparking a fire.

Great unit, but HALF THE PRICE AT HARBOR FREIGHT!!!
OMG the PRICE?!?!?! Almost $1000 after shipping??? seriously. I just bought this at my local harbor freight for $460, which wasnt even a sale price.Save yourself $500 and buy this in harbor freight for $460, or buy it on their website for that price and pay their $89 overweight shipping fee to your house. Good lord.As for the unit, it is a great unit, robust, powder coated and has a great predator engine which is bulletproof. Pretty easy to put together, though their is 2 bolt in the hopper that are realy hard to reach and might result in dropping them in the hopper, which in turn requires you to flip the entire unit upside down to retrieve them.

Difficult to start
PRO: Price, apparent features, portability, attractive 2-tone paint job.CON: Refuses to start. I have cleaned and gauged the spark plug, checked for clogged debris in the back cover, checked the air cleaner for blockage, drained the carburetor bowl, and added fresh gas after draining last year's fuel. Still, NO START.My machine ran out of the 2-year mechanical warranty YESTERDAY! I did not purchase it from Amazon so this review has no bearing on them at all. It should be relabeled "exercise equipment, not chipper shredder.

Stay away from this machine!
Bought mine at Harbor Freight. After using it for about 15 hours over two seasons, the motor shaft suddenly snapped off and left the flywheel loose! This has happened to an alarming number of people if you check the one-star reviews at HF. Since I didn't buy an extended warranty, I was told I was just out of luck. See photo of motor with snapped off shaft! I thought the Predator motor ran fairly well, right up until it destroyed itself.

great unit but buy it at Harbor Freight
great unit but go to harbor freight and get it for $449. it has a very strong feeding action, meaning it will pull sticks right out of your hands. the opening on top feeder is a little small for such a big hopper. starts very easily. great engine.

Chips, But Does Not Shred, Leaks Oil, Lasts One Season
First, the wheel brake will not disengage. Consequently, I have to trag it everywhere. More importantly, the shredder is nearly worthless. I do not know how to describe it other than to say it will not shred. The chipping is fine. But, I was hoping to shred so as to make garden mulch. The chipped chunks are too big for mulch. Then, after maybe fifteen hours of seasonal use, I put fuel saving and stored it in a heated shed. That is where it leaked oil and refused to start the following season.
