Works well with Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS
Works well with Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTSI have this card installed on Dell PowerEdge Server T20. Initially, I had a boot disk as well as 3 more disks on ports on motherboard. The boot disk was /dev/sda and 3 more bing sdb, sdc, and sdd. In order to add another disk, I moved boot disk onto this card, then added another disk to the port on motherboard. As soon as I moved the boot drive to port 1 on this card, and booted, it came up as /dev/sde and booted all the way up. I did not even go into BIOS on this card or the motherboard. No manual change of anything on system or OS. It came right up. It could not have been easier.I have no idea on speed. Using regular disk (not SSD), it is irrelevant to me. I'm sure it's fast enough for realistic throughput from this type of card and SATA-III drives.

This card solved the problem!
The problem: HP Z400 desktop workstation only supports hard drives up to 1.5TB (BIOS limitation), but I needed to install a 6TB drive.I found this card, live-chatted with StarTech tech support. They said "We think this will work."They were right: IT WORKED! PERFECTLY!And as a bonus, this card is 6GB/s. (The motherboard SATA ports are only 3GB/s.) So drive throughput is MUCH faster!I'm very happy. Thank you StarTech!

Has some issues with Linux use
This review is on my StarTech PEXSAT32 - 2 port SATA 6Gpbs PCIe Controller.I am running Linux 4.10.13--- on a AMD Phenom II x6 1100T processor. The initial install of this card would complete the boot process, but boot error messages were generated and the drives connected to this card were inaccessible. This card uses the Marvell 88SE9128 chip and it turns out there is a history of issues in Linux using this chip with an active IOMMU. Numerous bug reports with apparent fixes, but often seem to crop up again.Getting operational:In my case turning off the IOMMU in BIOS results in error free boot and access to my attached drives. ( its possible iommu=off on the boot command line will work, but I did not test ) This card is supported with the standard Linux kernel, so no configuration is required to support individual attached disks. The raid BIOS is available on the chip, but I have not evaluated. One star off:There is no particularly useful information on the supplied CD. Very dated Linux drivers are supplied with no explanation. Do not use these drivers if you are anywhere near current on you Linux kernel. Search on 88SE9128 if you want useful info.

Worked flawlessly
Worked flawlessly in setup. I'll edit this if I have any trouble, but RAID 0 setup with two SSDs was very simple using the BIOS setup process. A little more documentation (other than "hit Ctrl-M and follow the onscreen prompts") would have been nice, but overall it was intuitive to set up and use. Compared to the speed of the single 7200 RPM hard drive I replaced, the SSDs setup in RAID 0 are blazingly fast. Welcome to 2013, I know, but it's still really nice.

NOT recommended for Server 2012 R2 or Server 2016
I am a professional IT hardware builder. I love Startech products as they provide support from Canada, their people are polite and helpful and their products are very good quality with a proven track record in many of the hardware I have delivered to customers. That said this is the lowest rating I have ever given a Startech product mostly because the advertising is not clear and I wasted al lot of time both personally and on the support line with StarTech. I needed this product to work with Windows Server 2012 R2 and also to be compatible for future upgrades to Server 2016. However although the compatibility states it works with both these systems when you try to load a virgin setup of either server system, none of the drivers will load and successfully produce a working RAID 1 configuration with either Server 2012 R2 or Server 2016. After a few calls to StarTech they passed the support call to their top guru who admitted after 5 days that they couldn't make it load and work on a virgin hardware system whilst loading Sever 2012 R2 or Server 2016. They promised and I fully expect they will alter their literature to advise buyers of this fact. The reason I gave it 3 stars is I actually made it work with both these servers, but it is not a method available to most "normal" people. If you take one of the 2 drives from the RAID card and plug it directly into your motherboard then load either Server 2012 R2 or Server 2016, it will automatically recognize the RAID card and load drivers for it. If you then use Paragon Hard Disk Manager 15 (must be professional, the domestic normal version DOES NOT support Server 2012 r2 or 2016) and image the drive off to a NAS the remake the RAID 1 pair and reimage and make the partion slightly smaller so it fits onto the RAID 1 mirrored set voila it works. Since I am making multiple items this is cost effective for me, but simply isn't practical for most folks. I have no idea if this card works well or even at all on other operating systems, but for Windows Server 2012 or Server 2016 be aware of these major issues.
