I LOVE my dual function air cooler and dog silencer
I use this for camping in my small travel trailer and it is AMAZING. It turns a small hot space into an ice box very quickly and its thermostat is capable of maintaining a perfect temperature all night long. In its efforts to maintain the right temperature it does kick on and off a lot, which could be a problem if you are a light sleeper. I sleep more soundly than the dead, so this is no problem at all for me. My dog, however, jumped straight up in the air a few times the first night we used it. But he got used to it within a few hours and sleeps peacefully through the night now.I should add that I actually LIKE the fact that the fan is a little loud because it drowns out the neighbors and saves me from being awakened at 3 am by the dog (who no longer barks in the night at the sounds of animals moving around/dogs barking/people talking/etc). Also, as another commenter mentioned, ANY portable a/c will be loud. The one in your house is quiet only because most of its moving parts are located outside or in the attic. So all in all, this dual function air cooler and dog silencer is one of the best things I've ever purchased off Amazon. Or anywhere. And I got a refurbished unit too, so the price was more than fair. Now that I know how well it works for my purposes I would definitely pay full price if I had to buy it again.Helpful hint: If you use it in a small space, be mindful of the temperature settings. If you're not paying attention when you turn it on you might wake up in the morning with pneumonia because the product really does work THAT well.

Works perfectly, but the portion that goes in the window is garbage
This is quite powerful, quieter than most portable air conditioners I have used, and uses very little power. Barely raised my power bill at all, and it is capable of cooling a much larger space than the documentation officially suggests. It also has an indicator when the water reservoir is full and needs to be emptied, which is a nice perk. However, there is one downside. The ridiculous plastic frame that you're supposed to put into the window is awful. There's no polite way to put it, it's pure garbage. Even by the standards of portable air conditioners (most of which have pretty lousy window frames), this one is a piece of work. It's a collection of four long, thin, narrow pieces of plastic, which have to be attached to each other by screws on only one side, which means that the frame can collapse on itself since only one half of it is stabilized. In addition, several of the plastic pieces that need to be attached together are very thick and heavy (nearly twice as heavy as the other components) for no clear reason. The result is that the frame ends up being extremely top heavy. On top of that, all the plastic components are very smooth and slippery, which makes it difficult for most windows to "grip" them. They should have been lined in rubber for better friction. It is effectively impossible to put this in a window that opens horizontally, and even in a vertically sliding wind, it can be extremely unstable.I ended up using one very small part of the plastic frame, and lined the rest of my window with cardboard and duct tape.

Perfect size for a small area and actually does its job!
I am super grateful for this size appropriate AC! I live in Southern California and my house was built in the 1970's and unfortunately my room has like no insulation. The rest of the house stays cool, but my bedroom will be about 80-90 degrees with mass humidity when it's cool outside. I was a little skeptical about getting this, because some people mentioned that it wasn't working well. I'm really grateful that someone decided to make a small room sized AC unit. My room is pretty small and it fits well and the unit will make my room COLD if I want and drain great amounts of humidity if needed. Seriously, this thing has saved a lot of stress from me. My advice is to read the assembly instructions thoroughly and make sure you get good tape to seal the window, because a little air can leak through if you have older windows (like single pane). My only "complaint" is that the remote control doesn't show the temperature like the unit, and that would be super cool to be able to see, but whatever. Any way, great product, it has made my life better. I have a chronic illness and I can't regulate heat, so this thing has been a life saver for me.

Rattling Noise Problem Untolarable - New Unit Just Fine - Nope the clunk will wake the dead
1 Star - It "appears" this unit was returned once before. It also "appears" someone took the back panel off as one of the screws fell out and the panel was not put back on properly. The reason the back panel was off "I assume" is because when the AC compressor kicks on there is a severe and totally unacceptable rattle coming from the compressor area. However during my test run it does cool my 10 x 10 room very well. I like the size of the unit so I am returning this unit and going to Home Depot and buying another. Hopefully the new unit will not have the same rattle. I am hoping this unit was a victim of miss handling during shipping.4 Star Update - The second unit from Home Depot does not have the rattling issue. It seems to work well and it is quiet enough for me. It is no louder than a Frigidare window unit I have in the other room. Some folks talked about insulating the vent hose for better cooling however the unit was able to get my 1970's 10 x 10 room down to 70 degrees on a 90+ degree day as is. The only complaint might be that the unit makes a bit of a clunk noise when the compressor kick off.Back to 1 Star - The clunking noise from the compressor kicking off will wake the dead, I jump every time it clunks, sounds like someone hit the side of the unit, the whole unit jumps when the compressor kicks off, terrible. Can't use it, returning it tomorrow. I would say two for two bad units I am done wasting my time buying and returning. Going try some thing different and it will not be an LG.
