Are these shoes vegan? Any leather materials?

is the insert removable? And, if I prefer a wide toe box would you recommend I consider the wide version and go up a size? thank you

The insert is removable. I always replace the factory inserts with a good quality insert, like Spenco. I'm not sure of the toe box fit. The Merrells run true to size.

Is the fit true to size, with a med thick sock?

I find these sneakers broader than any other brand I have tried. This is not a problem in the toe box but the 'loose' feeling at the arch and heel require me to over tighten the laces. If you have the option order both your normal width and one size narrower.

Not sure what type of material this is, but how breathable is it?

leather mesh type material which gives me comfort in a climate that can reach 90's frequently in summer. Breathable
