Good tracer for the price.
I have had one of these tracers for perhaps 10 years and it usually finds the desired breaker on the first try. The ability to dial down the sensitivity on the receiver allows rather precise results. The angle of the receiver in line with a breaker also makes a difference. (You should always experiment with the angle as you lower the sensitivity to be sure you're getting the best reading.) I've also had pretty good success at tracing out underground wiring with this unit. As long as you hold the receiver very close to the ground (let it gently rub along the ground), you can also get a pretty accurate path by swinging the unit back and forth above the suspected path and dialing down the sensitivity. However, if one of the conductors has a break in the insulation and therefore a leak into the ground, the signal can go crazy! The only drawback is that it can't work on un-energized or open circuits. I've been resourceful many a time to include using an inverter and car battery to power up problematic wires in old houses with buried, open splices and then used the tracer to find out the path of the dead wiring. Since my 2007 tracer kit was recently lost or stolen, I will try another brand capable of tracing open circuits as well as energized and de-energized circuits. This feature will be more helpful in some of the applications we encounter. If you're just tracing out breakers and energized wiring, I'd recommend this tool.
