MountainsmithMayhem 45 Backpack

This thing is great! Very conveniently designed with a nice pocket arrangement and features, it is very light and might be the best pack I've ever had in this price range! I abuse my gear and it has been very durable so far

I've been using it for over a year now. I've run several miles with it, hiked over a hundred, have used it at least 2 times a week for daily use stuff as well. I have been incredibly rough on this pack as well, regularly overstuffing it.This is a great pack. It comes with a great warranty. It opens up and the entire contents are accessible. Hydration pocket is right on for a 3 liter bladder, water bottle pocket is accessible on one side (one side is angled forward) at all times. Whistle on the chest strap is a great touch... I've yet to get lost though, maybe I could get my kids to respond to it? Kidding.It fits as carry on with all airlines (so far), as I've traveled extensively nationally and internationally with it. In fact as I sit here it is stuffed down with a week's worth of gear.It is a 45 liter pack so it is not designed to carry more than about 35-45lbs. Above that weight you will start to notice the once comfortable shoulder straps, back padding, and hip start to feel a little thin. Also, at heavier weights, above 45lbs, you will start to notice that the wire frame, which, normally allows for great venting and comfort, start to flex while on the bounce. This is normal and to be expected. I've used another wire frame bag that is a 60 liter that can't handle anything above 45 lbs either. This pack is designed for light and fast, hut to hut or a weekender.Ive used other packs, on a higher price point but this one easily holds its own. For design, comfort, and ruggedness, you can't beat it. I will be purchasing other Mountainsmith products in the future.

I love this pack. It is my 3rd Mountainsmith pack and it might be my favorite so far. The only thing that I think could use improvement is the waterbottle sleeve on the side. It has too much horizontal angle to it, instead of being more vertical. I realize it is intended to make reaching your waterbottle easier. But with the hiking that I do, scrambling over treefall, creeks, and rough terrain just means it is going to slip out frequently. I won't be using that feature on this pack, but instead a Nalgene holter to hold my waterbottle.

Great pack at an awesome price! I use it for hiking. I am 5'4, and find it very comfortable and breathable. There is no separate sleeping bag compartment at the bottom, which I thought I would miss, but the full length zipper totally makes up for it and makes everything else easier to access.
