This stuff worked for my 3.5 year old in one application! So glad I got the smaller bottle. I was on the fence and so glad I went for it despite the pediatric dentist recommending to wait until she was 4. She was having some changes in her teeth from thumb sucking but she said it wasn't enough to make her worry. I was on the fence because my daughter started thumb sucking around one after I accidentally weaned her from her pacifier (I had found out there are actually age ranges on pacifiers but she didn't like the firmer texture - and I already tossed her other ones). I wasn't worried at the time because she only sucked her thumb when sleeping - so naps and night. However, a little over a year ago I became a stay at home mom and I noticed her thumb sucking increasing while she was awake. Constant reminders were not helping though I was glad it wasn't making her too upset either. I asked her if she wanted something spicy on her thumb to help her stop (because she wouldn't know what bitter was) and she became curious and asked for it a few days later. I ordered it online because I couldn't find it locally and chose this brand because of the reviews. She got excited when it came in the mail and I made her wait until morning to try it because I knew nighttime would be the hardest. Before I put it on I told her it doesn't come off, even with washing hands, so she would be prepared. I put one stripe down the center of each thumb trying to limit the accidental tasting while eating meals that I had read in other posts and it worked pretty well. She immediately gave a little lick and said "yuck". She had a great morning and did ask me to take it off a few times in the afternoon but I reminded her it doesn't come off and that was that. A few tears the first night but a left a few crackers at her bedside to take the taste away in case she accidentally sucked her thumb and that eased her fears and I just stroked her hair for awhile to relax her in place of her thumb. No mention of her thumb the next day and at night she only asked for a couple crackers. Third night, nothing! I know this is wordy but I hope my story helps someone else. Who knows, maybe in another few weeks she may need another dose but this self reminder has been so much better for both sides and has given us more progress in 3 days than in 1 year. So far she hasn't sucked her thumb in 2 weeks.

This stuff is awesome! My daughter has been a thumb sucker since day 1. She is 5 years old and still sucking her thumb! I’ve tried everything...even bribery lol! Nothing worked. I reluctantly bought Mavala Stop to try as a last resort. (This girl would still suck her thimb even after getting her nails painted...bleh! So, I wasn’t expecting it to work). As soon as I received the package, I opened it and applied it. It’s super easy to apply...just like nail polish. She wanted to see how it tasted, so she touched her tongue to her nail and was thoroughly disgusted. She has only had her thumb in her mouth once since receiving our Mavala Stop and that was because it had mostly worn off. We decided to apply it every 3 days. She has now completely stopped...even at night!! Seriously y’all! This stuff is the bomb diggity! I will be recommending it to everyone and anyone.

This stuff seriously works. As a lifelong nailbiter, I decided on my thirtieth birthday that I needed to finally put my bad habit to rest. After reading some blogs and Reddit posts, I ordered this product. I applied it to my nails before bed (as recommended) and also wore a rubber band on my wrist so that I could train myself to no longer bite my nails. The mavala polish tastes terrible, and it will even leave its trace on your lips if you even touch your mouth. After just about three weeks now, I am happy to report that I don't even think about biting my nails. My fingernails have grown to a nice length and now instead of hiding my short nails out of embarrassment and shame, I spend time making them look nice with pretty nail polish. I'll use the Mavala again if I am ever tempted to bite again. This product is the best. I am forever grateful.

My daughter was thumb sucking in the womb and found her thumb shortly after birth. I could not get her to stop for over three years.. her skin was wrinkly and peeling, the nail was bent and growing curved, and the dentist said it was changing her jaw placement. SEVERE thumb sucker. 1 week with this and she’s done completely. She didn’t cry, she didn’t have a fit. She said “that’s disgusting!” And stopped. I did not expect it to be that easy, but it was. I feel like an infomercial but serious, do it!!

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL DO NOT BUY!!!! my poor son threw up for an exture day due to this. Drooled all over the place! I touched his finger HOURS after it had been on and after 5 or more hand washes and got it all over myself. We couldn't even eat! Seriously dont buy the crap. And it cant be returned which I attempted to do immediately!!!! This is pure abuse and far too much. I wish I could describe it. After 24 hours my son still had no use if his hands due to the taste on them and it was on his face then. I cried watching him throw up and drool all over. This should be removed from the market.

Super evil tasting - I have to say that this stuff _really_ stops me biting my nails (although I've progressed to picking them). The other regular nail biting stuff is garbage by comparison. This stuff tastes awful and stays with you for half an hour after the slightest taste.2 things to note: 1) It leaves your nails shiny. Your colleagues at work will look at you strangely. I apply it to the skin around the nails and not the nails themselves - that helps. 2) If you are going to be cooking, don't put it on for at least 6 hours before. Then wash your hands with soap and even then, be super careful not to touch the food directly. It comes off and makes everything taste ick. What do you expect ? That's it's job !

This did not work for my 3 year old. It absolutely tasted horrible as advertised, but didn't seem to faze him enough to stop biting his nails. He also was complaining of stomach aches about 1 week into using this daily. After researching the ingredients, I realized that this is basically pure toxic chemical. Most nail polish is, but I was hoping it would be less harmful and yield results. We started using neem oil on his fingernails instead which has worked a lot better. You just have to apply it more often.

Well, it definitely works! I've wrecked my fingers lately as I've been biting them around the edges and down the sides (anxiety). They were getting really sore but I couldn't stop and just kept on chewing. I suddenly wondered if there was an Amazon solution to the problem and this stuff had good reviews. I thought I would add mine as it's only been 2 days but I can't get near them any more. This stuff is really quite pungent and unpleasant to taste - and it lingers! I keep trying to nibble but I am instantly repelled! It doesn't wash off particularly, although I have re-applied, just to keep up the momentum. Beware though - you do have to be careful with food prep! It just shows how things pass from your hands onto food. I wash my hands all the time but, for instance, when cutting fruit, or really anything that wets your hands, the product passes on to the food. One of my boys complained about some odd tasting grapefruit (oops). But why isn't he chopping his own fruit anyway, I say - he's nearly 17!! Grrrr... So yes, I recommend. :)

This product has been a miracle worker for us: my 7 year old son has been a thumb sucker since he was a baby and we have tried many tactics before to get him to stop, including thumb guards, other bitter sprays, bribery, etc. His front teeth had started to really protrude and both us and the dentist were worried. I applied a coat of this varnish to his thumb nail when he was asleep - the next day he said he didn’t want to suck him thumb anymore. We added in a bribe (6 months without thumb sucking and he’ll get a super treat) and he actually asked us to reapply the varnish after a couple of days. He hasn’t sucked his thumb now for a month at all, and we haven’t applied the varnish since week 2. His teeth have started to move back into place. Thank you!

The photo is 10 days on from using this, in which time I haven’t bitten my nails at all (so you can imagine how awful they were to begin with!!) I’ve bitten my nails for the best part of 30 years, I don’t even realise I’m doing it - this stuff has been miraculous for me. It tastes absolutely disgusting, though I’ve only tasted it a few times since for me it has forced a behavioural change, my fingers don’t go to my mouth at all anymore; it’s just not an option. Already feel less ashamed of my horrible nails (should have taken a before pic) & so excited to see my nails grow over the next few weeks. Definitely recommend for hardcore nail biters, it’s brilliant!As others have said, it could transfer to foods, but I see it as a plus that I’ve also stopped eating crisps!

I'm a chronic nail biter, and it's a lifelong habit. I do it without really realising I am, so I thought this would be a good product to get.This stuff is durable, and won't wash off easily without nail varnish remover. The taste is extremely bitter, and dear god does it linger. Since I've started using this a few days ago, I've put my hands to my mouth 3 times, without realising, and immediately stopped. Even aside from how bad it tastes, the flavour is a good way to bring your attention to what you're doing. Excellent if you're absent minded like me.It's glossy, but clear, so most people won't notice it (important if you're a guy). I highly recommend it.

My toodler permanently stopped sucking his thump using this. Had to use it on and off because sometimes he was starting to get used to the bitter taste so stopped for a week or so in order for him to forget and start again. It took about tree months for him to stop completely. Worthy trying you just gotta be patient.Used it on his nails just like nail polish and it stays on for a few days

Never write reviews but this product deserves one.I’ve tried everything but this is the only thing that has ever worked. I was ready to give up trying.It’s been 29 days exactly since I have bitten my nails and it’s all thanks to this little bottle of magic 👍

Works a treat! I've always bitten my nails & chewed the skin around them which is a gross habit that I've wanted to stop for years. Using this has really helped because it tastes horrible! A very long-lasting bitter, unpleasant taste that really makes you think twice.You don't need to apply very much for it to be effective, so this will last a very long time making the investment worth while. Even with normal hand washing multiple times per day, a single application will easily last 2-3 days, often longer.Due to the nature of the product, I wouldn't recommend using this product if you intend to eat with your fingers (e.g a sandwich, KFC etc) because it's very easy to transfer the taste of the varnish onto whatever you're eating, ruining your meal!

For some reason when my 4yr old daughter started going to reception class she also started to bite her nails to the point where she would cry because she had bitten them so short. We tried various methods to actually coax her out of doing it, like talking to her, reminding her, stopping her etc. however none of these methods worked…6months later, I decided to end this nightmare (okay so not really a nightmare but you get the picture!) and look at various nail polish deterrents.I looked at the options and decided to go for the best rated one…and this was it. I was not disappointed at all!We talked our daughter through the reasoning behind buying this and she wanted to stop doing as well, so we purchased the 5ml bottle and to be honest, that was a waste! Why you might ask?!I only needed one, yes I did say one, application and she was immediately put off biting her nails.We used another application a couple of days later to be on the safe side, but she literally hasn’t touched her nails since. I’m even considering using it myself!I could not recommend this product enough, even if it is slightly more expensive than other methods this is definitely worth it!

Well I was hoping there was something out there that would detour my 10 year old from nail biting. No, not even this stuff can stop him from biting, but he is unique to say the least. It is horrible tasting, as I had to try it myself, but it just doesn't work on my son. To be fair to the product, I do think it will be most effective on the majority of the nail biting population.

Positive effects this product has on me:- no more nail biting- no more fingers in my mouth- no more fingers on my face, less bacteria and dirt => less chances to create pimples- no more fingers in my noseI have been biting my nails all my life. I managed several times to stop biting my nails, usually during holidays when I am abroad. However, my main problem was that whenever I came back from holiday, there would always be something stressing me out at some point or another, usually because of work, and I would bite my nails again without even realising. When I was realising what I was doing it was too late.Just recently, I decided it's time to put a stop to nail biting for good because it's a really bad habit. Nails do not look good, teeth get damaged over time, putting dirty fingers in mouth, lips and face is also bad...I have to say that this product does the job for me. I have used for 5 days and I have not dared to bite my nails again. I do not even dare to bite nails again. The bitter and awful taste make me conscious that I am about to bite my nails as soon as my finger touches my tongue.The only downside to it is that it has a shine to it, which can be a bit strange for a straight man like me. :) But this is a small thing compared to the benefits it has on me.

We bought this stop nail biting polish for our 8 year old daughter. We tried it on ourselves first because some reviews said it tasted truly vile.It tastes awful but not enough to make you want to vomit but just enough to make you want to stop putting your nail in your mouth and stop biting it! It tastes really bitter more than anything.I’d recommend it for older children who can understand why it’s being used and can consent to it. The taste on the polish itself lasts about 5-6 days and then you would need to reapply.I’d recommend this productIt did do it’s job and after two bites she stopped biting we only had to use it for a week

Having been a nail biter all my life, I decided to take the opportunity during lockdown to remedy it.I had heard of these types of polish before, but as with anything that involves actively using a product to get results - I was skeptical if I would keep up with the "routine".First of, the smallest size bottle is about a third the size of a regular nail polish bottle. The smell of the product is exactly the same as regular nail polish. The application is easy, and dries quickly, and the 'finish' is clear and will make your nails shiny, but won't look as gleaming as if you were wearing polish (if that's what you have an issue with).The taste - I rated 5 stars - but let's be clear. It does not taste good. The moment you put your fingers close to your mouth, you will get an extremely bitter taste - a few times it has made me physically gip. But considering that is the point - It works as intended. Just be aware - you want to eat crisps? Nope. Take it as a plus - you stop biting your nails AND eating crisps!Application lasted about 2-3 days before reapplying. My nails look much healthier after only 2 weeks of use! I was a bit shocked at first with how small the bottle is but tbh I should have paid more attention to the size of the bottle. I don't think the tiny size is much of an issue as the brush is also tiny, and it's quite thin and you don't need a lot. I put on a thin coat, and let me tell you this tastes rank.This will not only stop you biting your nails, but also picking your teeth, or touching your lips in general (I sometimes put my thumb against my lips when I'm thinking, and it rubs off onto the moisture on you lips, and later when you lick your lips BAM oh god this tastes so bad!)Just avoid putting your fingers near your mouth at all costs! The taste is so, so strong.However, I only put this on a few days ago and it's rubbed off already. I only put a thin coat on, but it seems that it will need replication every week if it hasn't already helped you kick the habit.I definitely think this product has helped me with my nail biting habit (so far) and also other nervous habits like touching my mouth, it really does taste truly awful, but I'm not sure if another longer lasting product would be better (haven't tried another, can't tell you)

My 6yo was nibbling the loose skin on her fingertips and making a terrible mess that was distressing her as much as me, but she couldn’t stop herself because she didn’t know she was doing it. I bought thus remembering ‘bitter aloes’ as a child.The bottle is very small, like nail varnish bottle and the contents a clear varnish. It tastes impossibly vile - like concentrated ear-wax if you’ve ever accidentally tasted that! With her agreement we painted her nails and fingertips. Over the course of several days her skin healed up but I have to reapply the varnish regularly as given a chance she will still nibble. She is so pleased with her fingers now.I have deducted one star because it becomes difficult to remove the lid of the bottle over time.

For 2 weeks solid..Told my heavy thumb/finger suckers, Aged 5 and 3 years old when they are big, fairies will make their fingers taste bad. Every morning I asked if they tasted bad and they said no and I acted disappointed. One night while they slept, I painted their fingers, in the morning they both were like urghhhhh and Yayyyy I’m big now. We celebrated.
