If you love quality traditional ornate tableware with a weighty feel, lovely shine, and stainless steel practicality, look no further. This flatware, complete with a five-piece serving set, is just the ticket.

The handle on the knife is clearly not the same as the one pictured. In the photo from the company, you can see that the handle on the knife is rounded not flat (even casting its own shadow) and where the handle meets the blade is hexagon shaped, not flat. My husband really liked this feature and it was the main reason why he chose it. When it arrived today, it is just flat, NOT as pictured. In looking super close for other photo/reality discrepancies, you can see that the tip of the spoon handles actually tip downward in the photo (by the company) but tip up in reality. That's not a big deal, just a difference from the company's photo but the knife handle was an obvious discrepancy from the photo and one that made the difference to my husband. You can see in the picture I took of what arrived today that it is very different from the company's picture.UPDATE 4/2/16I am posting an update to my initial review expressing my disappointment in the handles being different than the ones pictured. Once we got over the obvious knife handle difference, we actually really do like the set a lot. They are very beautiful and we really enjoy using them every day. Everyone that uses them compliments their weight and beauty and both of my kids have now asked for a set as they get their own apartments this Fall. Using them as every day ware truly makes you feel just a little bit spoiled. I did end up buying a second set (with the round knife handles like we originally wanted) so now we have this set at both of our homes. I've had no problem with pitting, etc. and I do put them in the dishwasher.

This set is beautiful. I just put it through the wash today. Hopefully it will stay that way without rusting out. I would say that the Wallace Brand is a pretty safe bet.My kitchen is done in French Country. My colors are soft yellows and blues as is my table linens. This is not a simple set with regard to the decoration. That been said, it does look a bit old-school cool like it has been in the family for years. I would use this as my everyday set as well as casual dining at my home. Most of us do not have "grand affairs" and that been said, I think with a simpler/smart kitchen well done kitchen they add just a bit of wealth to the table without looking cheesy.I have a blue set of plates that I would call French country (flowers) and a set of plate that are a European simple taupe color. This set does not knock these simple yet lovely plates away as if they "don't go." Again, it looks like something timeless and of superior quality without being tacky.But I suggest if you put little or no thought to design at all - get something simple. They will, in that case, look tacky.The quality is very good. The forks are not huge as people say. they really are not. I think someone saw that on a threat and ran with it.Love it!

I love this set. it has a small teaspoon great for a fine China teacup nice fit. I also like the size of the tablespoon perfect for thick or thin soup. the salad fork perfect for all types of salad. the dinner fork great for a small steak perfect for a thick juicy steak and a nice weight to the knife. this set will spoil you it is not a run of the mill set it is beautiful, made well, it will last a lifetime. I am very tired of the generic look. this is craftsmanship at its finest it's also made in Silver at a very high price. While it is still available in 18/10 stainless in a 65pc set at a great price I got one for my sister in-law and myself before it is no longer available like so many other discontinued patterns. I am so HAPPY! HAPPY! HAPPY!

When I first opened the box, I thought about returning the flatware. Continental flatware is longer than what I am used to seeing. But I was looking for and chose this set because of the knife; it has a rounded handle and I must say the knife is GORGEOUS. I was also looking for 18/10 which this is and it is very shiny flatware and it does rather lay flat in the box.The pattern in the picture looks like the shell design is deeper and more ornate. It is less so in person. However, I have really enjoyed using the forks. They are rather elegant. I have to agree with some of the other reviews. The teaspoon is smaller but that must be for the more fragile elegant "tea" time in Europe. And the design is on the backsides as well which is a very nice touch.I think this is a good buy for the number of pieces and overall quality.

I've used a 12 person-placing setting set of everyday Wallace 18/10 flatware for eight years. This Thanksgiving, as I was setting the Thanksgiving table for 6 people, I realized that I was short dessert forks and teaspoons! I wonder where they have gone?? Knowing that I need a new set of flatware, I researched the possibilities that were available during the Black Friday's sales in department stores in addition to the items that were available at Amazon. I was looking for a pattern that was classically ornate, but would not look ridiculous in a bowl of oatmeal. The price on Amazon was less than in any other store/site and the fact that it is 18/10 (vs 18/0) sealed the deal for me. The set arrived in perfect condition; each piece was unstained, unchipped, and individually wrapped, all of the pieces were in the box, and, after they were washed in the dishwasher prior to use, they came out without any blemishes. The weight of each piece is substantial and well-balanced to hold, and the stamped/pressed on design extends to the back of the spoons and forks. The knives are beautiful, heavy, and marked on the blade with the words "WALLACE" and "CHINA". The place setting looks lovely when set on the table (and the spoon looks great in my oatmeal!). The one negative feature of this set/design compared to my earlier Wallace flatware set: this set does not come with either steak knives or round-bowled spoon spoons (my previous set came with both). I am very pleased with this purchase.
