Family Tree Explorer 9 PREMIUM - Genealogy software - compatible with Windows 10, 8.1, 7 - compatible with the international GEDCOM format

Worked for what I needed.

This is the most exasperating piece of software I've ever tried to use, beginning with the installation and through the actual use of the product! The finished product is definitely not to my satisfaction as it in no way mirrors what I had with the old "Generations" file ".uds" file extension. This is a "gedcom" environment and I assumed it would make things easier. But even with all my computer training and certificates I found that it requires a mighty sophisticated use of visual basic and other things in order to even get your old files into the gedcom environment, probably becauses seller don't want you to be able to export to their product. At least that's what my experience has taught me. If I'm wrong, someone please set my straight.I searched the internet and wound up on YouTube having to sit through visual basic training trying to figure out how to get what I already had in an .uds file, included into the gedcom environment after exporting it first to an excel file and then fixing the end product so that it could be read, I just gave up on the idea and had to type in the information all over again! Imagine what a job that is, actually having to scroll through what I have in an Excel file because I don't know visual basic well enough to import the information into the gedcom environment. I have almost gotten to the point where I'm going to give it up and continue using the old .uds software and forget about what anyone else will suffer when I'm gone (I'm 80 years old now).

I was hoping that this product would interface with Ancestry. It does not. It also doesn't access most records like Ancestry, so I basically have to type everything in. It has good trees if you are just looking to build a tree and input information.I didn't use tech support, so I didn't rate it.

I was really hoping that this would be the software program to help me organize my family genealogy. I liked all of the product features described and the price point. I am not necessarily interested in linking to Ancestry.com All I want to do is construct family trees for multiple family lines.One would assume that adding a new member or new family SHOULD be very straight-forward. Click the button. I decided to add myself first. Then I added my spouse. It was not transparent how to link the two, and took some doing. Next I added my daughter as a new member, but I could not connect her to her parents (my husband and me).I clicked on help and that did not provide any assistance. There is no "getting started" documentation, no YouTube, and no software PDF manual to download.Perhaps if a buyer is very familiar with this type of software interface, the product would provide value, but even though I consider myself moderately techy-savvy (compared to my age group) and I explored all the tabs along the top, I could not get family tree to function as I had hoped.If the software manufacturer is reading this, may I suggest: Provide how-to instructions, a start up summary, a You-tube, and a PDF manual.

It was not easy for me to figure out. I deleted it off my computer and found another program that was so much easier to us.

Will not import like it says it will. It will start then stops and says there is a file with that name and freezes.

The program loaded perfectly. Upon trying to upload my ged file from ancestry, the program froze. The only way out of it was using task manager. This happened 6-8 times. I contacted tech support and was told to contact the manufacturer - so not any help at all. Once I've had enough of trying to get this to work, i attempted to uninstall the program. it will NOT uninstall. I'm stuck with it now until i find a computer wiz to help me get rid of it. Buyer beware.

This was to help me in my Genealogy Research. Unfortunately whereas it's been used before a lot of the research tools found within do not work because they have already been used by someone else and can only be used the one time. FS

Product had no help file and no user guide an so my wife has ditched using it in favour of a 20 year old programme that does the same thing but better in her opinion. Wife has been doing this type of research for over 30 years and considers this a waste of money

Unable to successfully upload ged family file from ancestry.com.

As a non-professional genealogist I found it very difficult to complete family trees and in fact went back to using my old genealogy programme which was very easy to use even if it didn’t have the fancy tree presentations. Would not recommend it for amateurs

The manual available on line was huge. Bit of a challenge to use. Not as ntuitive as I would have expected
