3 ANC modes make this a great headphones
Very good headphones. The ANC has three modes: travel, ambient and office and they work very well. The usb-c type port makes the charging fast and the battery lasts long, I don’t know exactly how much, but they last long enough. The sponge is made of soft material and the length can be adjusted. The storage box is nice and sturdy, a little extra big though, but nice box indeed. There is 3.5 mm cable for non Bluetooth situations and an adapter for connecting with some in-flight systems. All in all a good headphone.

POOR BUILD QUALITY - DO NOT BUY
I'm a married guy with a wonderful wife and one year old son. In other words, I'm the perfect candidate for noise cancelling headphones. I started my search by looking at some YouTube channels, and reading some tech websites. I also hit up Amazon. I was initially drawn to the usual suspects of high quality headphones: Sony, Bose, Sennheiser. I looked at their top of the line models and I liked what I was seeing--100XM3, 700 NC, Momentum 3. Then I realized, 'Hey, I'm not about to spend $300+ on some headphones! I already have $120 worth of diapers in my Amazon cart!' So I start looking for the best mid-range priced headphones under $100. Low and behold, Taotronics kept appearing as a pair of headphones I should check out. I saw the price, and thought 'If it breaks, no worries. It's only 100 bucks.' I was ready to be a "good" dad and make the responsible purchase. Unfortunately my happy story ended a week after having the headphones. Long story short, you often get what you pay for.Pros: for the price, above average sound quality, syncs to multiple devices, comfortable ear pads, decent battery life, sturdy carrying case.Cons: cheap as heck materials! My headphones broke within 2 weeks. The rotating joints joints for the headphones are as sturdy as ant knees (see pictures). I literally placed the headphones on my head, and they broke. The lining for the padding tore after a week (see pictures)! There's no excuse for either of these things to happen on a brand new pair of headphones.I learned my lesson with the tech shopping experience. More times than not, you get what you pay for. Avoid buying cheap. Most times it will be better to be patient, save up and purchase a high quality product.

MIC / ANC & Soundstage issues
Noise cancellation was OK - it seemed to work fine, but the music changed considerably when it was on. The headphones don't produce much base - I guess they are balanced, and that is all personal taste, but music that would typically be base heavy seemed flat with these. Now when you turn on ANC all of a sudden the base increased and the sound stage seemed more tilted toward the low end. I don't want ANC to be the control I use for sound stage control, and I don't want it on when I want more base. It was just a weird quirk of the chipset in this model. The 3 ANC modes was a cool feature, but not sure a necessary one. I did like how "office" mode attempted to reduce the ANC effect to allow conversation more easily.ANC was problematic with phone calls. When on, the ANC caused the microphone to cut out when you were talking at the same time as another person. The other person was constantly asking what I just said. This was happening on computer and phone connections. It was the weirdest issue, and hasn't been an issues with other headsets on the same setup. Seemed to be related to the internal microphone and ANC behavior.BT pairing multiple devices was a constant headache - the headphones just seemed to get confused and I would get have a dead connection. It said connected, but no sound, no audio, on either device. Repeatedly. For my head the design was also very tight fitting, which was nice at first, but if you're wearing it for hours it begins to become uncomfortable - especially if you wear glasses.I compared these to the Anker Q20 which have their own issues, but overall the BT connectivity, ANC, MIC, and soundstage were a better fit.

Wait; here me out. (updated) They broke. I'm done.
I used these headphones for my S9+ and on my PS4. The mic doesn't work for the PS4, only audio. I didnt buy them for the ps4 specifically so this review isn't based on that. I bought them to hear movies and shows for netflix and hulu from my phone. The issues that I have are a few, first the audio is a bit wonky. Sometimes when I plug them in the audio would play in a slow motion voice not for a second either. It would continue until i take the wires out and reset the app. This has never happened with any other headphones. Also they do have a slight hiss sound to them. I tried them to sleep with and as soon as I turned them on to use the ANC feature, i would get this low annoying hiss. I tried the travel, office and ambient mode. The hiss is there, if I play music and pause or watch a show and pause the hiss is still there. I usually buy low end 20-30 dollar headphones and they do very well, especially stacked against these. Next up is the next issue I have. The range on the bluetooth is absolutely terrible. I'm talking about maybe 4 to get 5 and the signal drops. I had a pair of otium headsets the 20 dollar pair that allowed me to take out the trash and go into the basement of a1500 sq ft home. It wouldn't drop at all, it would get a bit fuzzy when I reached the street and my phone is on the kitchen counter but it would still hold and be clear. These however, I use the half bathroom which is about 4 feet from my kitchen table and the signal completely drops, to where I have to get out of the bathroom for it to reconnect. One huge positive with these headphones is the USB C connection. To be honest, I am unsure if I have a defective unit or if they are just like this, I would be willing to update depending if this can be resolved somehow. Overall I am very upset with the quality of these 100 dollar headphones, and here I thought I was splurging.(updated) I have received an email on possible ways to resolve this issue. I personally decided to go through Amazons returns process. In order to give this brand a chance and to be fair I requested an exchange. So with a new pair of headphones comes a new review. So far the headphones are the same as far COMFORT goes, which is they are comfortable. They sit well and they dont "overheat" my ears. The BUILD is all plastic with an internal metal band. so it feels and looks premium. The SOUND is good and has different ANC settings to amplify the sound. I bought these for movies and they do very well. I do take calls with these and they sound clear and I haven't had any issues with calls. The ANC setting actually works well. I had the family together in the living room to watch a kids movie, so the tv was set to a volume of 50 and I was watching my own show on my phone, the ANC travel mode, allowed me to have a conversation while drowning out the movie and providing full clear uninterrupted audio. It really surprised me how well they worked in that situation. The BATTERY life is great, no issues and it charges fast. I charge it once every couple days and no problems. I've come to believe that the headphones have a normal low hiss while using ANC mode, so these aren't comfortable for a nap or some quiet time. Yes they reached out to resolve this, but they offered a lower end pair of headphones in exchange a whole 60 dollars cheaper. The TT-BH055 to be exact. Although I thought that was kind of them, I do not need an extra pair low budget headphones.(updated again) So I have received the new headphones in the mail. The sound surge 60. As originally stated I dont have a need for extra budget headphones. What I have done is compared 3 headphones. The surge 55, surge 60 and the otium sport buds. That were 20 dollars. Both taotronics performed better than the otiums by far. Overall, the sound surge 55's are legit. I wouldn't even recommend the surge 60's; unless money is the deciding factor. If you can afford to splurge a little; The surge 55's performed significantly better. In all areas. The sound is rich and dynamic and actually feels good on the ears without sounding sharp and harsh. they are also one of the only brands right now with USB- C, so they go great with newer devices and make traveling a breeze. I can honestly chalk up any issues I had; to a defective pair. After testing these headphones thoroughly I can comfortably and easily recommend these headphones to anyone looking for new headphones. Customer service also worked diligently to resolve any issues I had, so that was also greatly appreciated.Updated *Sat, May 16th.the headphones broke. I wondered if they would last because they felt stiff. Now I know it's a plastic knob that snapped. Had them a little over a month and they snapped. I'm the only user of them and I'm very careful with my headphones. I did use them daily since I purchased them. Regardless, they are broke and considering the issues I've had with them I won't be buying another pair. A month of use just to snap.

Great for the money!
I drive a truck and bought these to watch stuff on my laptop in the evenings. At home I use a pair of Sony wh-1000xm3's. As you understand I don't really want to take a pair of expensive headphones in the truck where they could get damaged, broken or thieved. I read a few reviews' on the Soundsurge 55's and thought I'd give them a go. I understand that some people have different tastes, expectations and so on but I think these headphones are great. No they're never going to be 'High end' but if you don't expect that then you'll be pleasantly surprised by how good they are. The sound is great, better than I was honestly expecting for a pair of £40 headphones! The ANC is not a patch on the Sony's but what do you expect?, Having said that the 'Passive' noise reduction is very good. They do great job of blocking out noise without the ANC even turned on. One BIG advantage these have is Bluetooth 5. The Sony's are 4.2 and I noticed the benefit straight away when I went upstairs and back down again without ANY loss of connection. The Sony's always drop out a couple of times on that journey but do connect again once I'm upstairs. The Bluetooth range is obviously better on the Soundsurge 55's!!... They're very comfortable to wear and the hard case is a great accessory for my being out in the truck... I was sceptical about buying them at first but don't be!.. For the money I'm sure you'll be over the moon.

Great value for price!
I like the products of TaoTronics, and these headphones are very good for this price. The built quality is very good, same as the sound that you can expect from Bluetooth headphones of the mid-range. The noise cancellation works great and is really comparable to the feature of the much more expensive brands, especially that it gives 3 mode of cancellation. Battery life is great, really great, along with the work of Bluetooth that has no any issues or cuts. The only 2 small issues why I didn't gave the 5 stars are the tightness of the headphones, the size and the material of the ear pads. They aren't bad, but comparing to my Sennheiser 598cs, these ones are a bit small for me and after a long use it starts to be very warm inside and I have to remove them to cool down. On my head I feel them too tight, I tried to widen them by leaving them opened wide for a night, but the tightness didn't change, that says that the build. quality is very good)So overall, they are very good for this price range! Recommended.

good for some use-cases
Firstly, the good: The battery life really is the 35-40 hours claimed. It goes for ages, even with noise cancelling. The noise cancelling does work, it's not perfect but it really cancels out most low pitch noises. The build quality is also pretty good, with no creaking noises. The one bad point about the build for me is that the ear-cups get really warm whilst you wear them. Now, the bad: The bluetooth implementation seems rushed. It does technically have multipoint, but good luck trying to get that to work reliably. Trying to get this to disconnect from my phone and connect to my PC would regularly take 5 minutes of changing drivers, enabling and disabling bluetooth, etc.. and even worse, sometimes i'd get into a game and then it'd switch back to my phone. If you're somone who will use this exclusively on one device, eg: a commuter using it on the train, then you're probably fine. If you're like me, constantly changing device, you'll have problems.Sound quality is good. Not amazing, but compared to most other headphones i've used, these come around 4th best.

A good pair of headphones
They're not aptX-HD but aptX. There is no mention of aptX-HD on the box and even when you connect using an Android phone, if you go to setting of the headphones it only shows aptX.aptX is a Bluetooth audio codec that can transmit 16-bit/44.1kHz audio with a compression ratio of 4:1 at 352kpbs.aptX-HD is a Bluetooth audio codec that can transmit 24-bit/48kHz audio with a "gentle" compression ratio of 4:1 at 576kpbs.I personally never tried aptX-HD therefore I can't tell the difference but difference between aptX and standard Bluetooth codecs doesn't seem that massive to my hearing. I am sure difference between aptX-HD and standard codec would be bigger.

Honest Review very Dissapointing
The only reason I give these 2 stars is because the ANC is very good.I received these other day and I have to admit for the price these are masively underwhelming. The ANC is good (the best you can get at this price point) but everything else is just terrible. The sound quality of these are just terrible, you cannot hear any detail in the sound and everything just sounds muffled. These are also very unconfortable to use for extended period of times (say 30mins), the clumping force is strong and that your ears will start feel sore pretty soon. Build quality is also very dissapointing at this price point. For the price I was expecting better sound, better build quality and confort, sadly this was not the case. I would not recommend these and would instead advice to look at alternatives
