Can this game be played solo?

The game is supposed to be played with a minimum of 2 players. When there are 2 players both players take turns with a 3rd imaginary player. More is better though. I suppose you could setup 2 more imaginary players and take turns. That would still be enjoyable.

How many players can play using the expansion?

The expansion doesn't add new pilgrim pieces--just gives more travelers to choose from--so the limit is still five players (and honestly, more than five players would create serious problems with space-denial).

One of the pictures shows miniature figures. Does this come with the minis?

This expansion does NOT come with the mini figures. That picture should not be in this post. The mini figures come with the collectors accessory set, found here: https://www.amazon.com/Tokaido-Collectors-Accessory-Pack-Board/dp/B01ATBQ1WU/ref=sr_1_5?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1492707510&sr=1-5&keywords=Tokaido

What’s the difference between the out of print edition and the new edition?

The art is the only difference.
