so this contraption took some experimentation but now that I have the right "recipe" it makes the best oatmeal and is SUPER EASY
Okay, so this contraption took some experimentation but now that I have the right "recipe" it makes the best oatmeal and is SUPER EASY to clean. The instructions and measurements that come with the Oatmeal kit may not work with your microwave, altitude, etc. I had to try a handful of cook times and power levels to keep it from boiling over and to get the right consistency oatmeal. We like it really thick. The instructions are for 800 watt microwaves so i figured with our 1000 watt micro that cooking it at 80% power would work but it boiled over.At altitude of 7000 feet and a new 1000 watt microwave here is our recipe for 2 servings of thick oatmeal: 1/2 cup oatmeal to 1 cup water (no salt). Cook on 50% power for 1 min 30 seconds. Let sit for 1 or 2 minutes.

Not the Best Way to Cook Oatmeal
This is the first Lekue product I've tried that I didn't absolutely love. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I don't get the perfect results I've come to expect with them. It's a pity, as I was hoping for an easy, alternative way to make great oatmeal using steel cut oats.

Not like last year’s offering
Bought this for my wife as a replacement for something similar from this company last Christmas. Had thought this was pretty much the same thing. But the other was a bowl she could cook her oatmeal in and eat from the same bowl. This however is like eating from a small mixing bowl! This is really no different than using a much less expensive bowl you already own.

Requires 800W microwave
You must have an 800 W microwave for it to work. I have a 1000W microwave. I have tried using 80% power and I have tried using the translation chart suggested by another reviewer. Neither worked. I have oatmeal outside and a soggy mess inside. The same thing happened with the pasta cooker. They seem like good quality products and probably work well with an 800 W microwave, but they are not worth the struggle for others.

Five Stars BUT DIRECTIONS ARE WRONG
I had to try several times to get it to work. For me its 3/4 cup of oatmeal 1 cup of water at 3 minutes. When I used the 2 cups of water at 4 minutes it overflowed.
