Innocence and flesh were sacrificed when two young brothers ignored the laws of Alchemy in an attempt to resurrect their mother. The horrors they recklessly unleashed that night marked the beginning of a journey that leads from darkness to light and back. In an era of war and corruption, State Alchemist Edward Elric and his brother Alphonse desperately search for the Philosopher’s Stone. The legendary artifact is their last hope to restore what was lost – or it could be their undoing. The grisly truths found in the quest for the relic will test their souls in ways unimaginable. Murder stalks the brothers from the shadows and false prophets conspire to steal their faith. Morality is assaulted by military atrocities and scientific abominations. Amid the ashes of their childhood, Edward and Alphonse will discover the power to create is but a breath away from the power to destroy. The bond of brotherhood will be their greatest weapon in the fight for their lives. Review: A True Gem For All Anime Fans; Newcomers and the like! - This is not a review based on the legendary hit anime television show Full Metal Alchemist but rather a review based on the actual product itself. Episodes 1-51; 6 discs; official Funimation release; high definition If you've ever purchased a DVD or Blu-ray before, you'll be happy to know that this product is no different. The case is a hard sturdy material yet removing the DVD's from the cases may be a problem as you have to press down firmly on the middle 'button' with your thumb and use your remaining fingers to carefully lift the DVD from the insert. That can be a problem with many DVD's however, it is also a good thing as you can rest assured that the disc will not become dislodged within the case due to the sturdy holding. The artwork presented on the cover (as you see from the picture) is nostalgic for all Full Metal Alchemist fans. You will find the two main characters presented on the covers (slipcover/case). It is highly detailed and on the back of the case are the general descriptions and blurbs of the television show including the special features and what else you can come to expect from the DVD's themselves. The DVD's have artwork of their own which are symbolic of the show: (a red) Alchemy transmutation circle. When you insert the DVD/Blu-ray into your compatible player whether it's a Playstation or XBOX console, PC, etc., you will be confronted with various anime trailers before getting to home menu. On the menu, you will have a static screen with familiar music as the background (original song from FMA original soundtrack). You will be able to choose between subtitles, Japanese/English voice audio and a textless opening among other things. There's isn't much that 'stand out' about this product but whether you're new to the series or a longtime fan, I'd recommend adding this to your collection (with such a reasonable price)! While this is the series that diverged from the path the manga was headed, I do recommend checking out the second of this series: Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood which follows the manga plot intently. Review: $60 for this is such a bargain, and easily disproves "Equivalent Exchange" - This is so much more than just a show. That first episode watched, all those years ago, the countless hours spent in front of the tv... this is no mere instance of squandered youth and wasted time, this show was and is a catalyst for change in my life. I watched the show alongside my brother, and we could relate well to the Elrics. My brother, both older and smaller than I, had a quick temper, much like Ed, whereas I more easily identified Al. We both were young in our teenage years, emerging from a childhood where we too had lost a parent. We were no strangers to difficult times, no paucity of adversity in our lives, and Ed and Al helped us to feel less alone in our struggles. Much in the same way they studied their alchemy, we were inspired to pursue the sciences. Ed and Al taught us not just to be better brothers to one another, but to be better people in general. This show is chock full of good messages and good philosophy. It molded me as a youth, it shaped my understanding of consequence, and helped me come to terms with some of life's hard truths. It sounds silly, to be so affected by a television show, but I would say it's similar to the feeling you get when a certain song moves your soul, and I would challenge anyone who says there is nothing to be learned here. This show exemplifies the finest of storytelling. I feel sorry for those that would, so to speak, judge this book by its cover. This is not simply some cartoon for children, this show is a life lesson, and it can change you for the better if you let it. I am glad for the opportunity to buy a remastered copy. It will make a good gift to my brother. Hopefully someday his kids and my kids will be able to enjoy this show on the same level as we did.

FMA has come to Bluray!
My review is of the item itself, the content was another matter. This being not only the first bluray release of the original FMA anime but also the first time it was released in one complete package I very much wanted it. I preordered it and it came in today. The show itself was great. Usually it's people opinions on which series was better. This one or Brotherhood. I say watch this first sense this version does a lot of character focus, making you love them more. Then watch Brotherhood. And the package itself was very pretty and nice. It came with another item so the corners of mine were a bit roughed up. It comes on 6 discs and are about the same thickness of any of the brotherhood Volumes. I think it's a great edition to my bluray anime collection and I recommend it :) hope this helped! Contains: Episodes 1-51 Episode 19, 25, and 51 commentary Ura Hagane: Comedic Previews The Transmutation of a Phenomenon: an Inside Look Japanese commercial and U.S. Trailer L'arc~en~ciel "Ready Steady Go" video Textless Opening and Closing songs Trailers

Wonderful
I watched this when it first came to the U.S. when I was 9 or 10 and fell in love with the show. This collection has all 52 episodes and lots of extras. The story is easyish to follow and the homunculi are better then Brotherhood. In this series the brothers somewhat succeed in their goal but fell short and the main villan finished it to a point. I highly recommend this for lovers of the full metal manga and those who enjoyed brotherhood

Fake! Fake! Fake!
Can’t return it as I’m beyond the return date. Never myself have I bought anything like this and I’m mad. Clearly fake once you closely look at it. All the disks play until the last disk. Last disk has blank menu with no play screen. Some episodes load a black screen or skip a little but I thought nothing of it and thought maybe my disk player needed cleaning. We could tell they were probably burned disks and then went on google and my boyfriend read that years ago funimation didn’t renew the license for fullmetal alchemist at all. You can even buy the original series but you can still buy brotherhood. They said for that reason lots of fake copies are swirled around. I’d still be careful of brotherhood and if you buy it check it carefully. I’m so pissed!

Love this collection but it does have issues.
Overall if you love the show this is still a great purchase you can watch the episode individually or in marathon mode the only thing about marathon mode is it cut the episode off a few seconds early or certain scenes early to avoid either the intro or the credit scenes, it doesn't bug me it just throws me off every now and then cause I remember those scenes and it's not there. I've noticed some lines changed or some scenes seem to skip like a second or two ahead I don't remember the show enough to remember if that's how the show went or if it's a manufacturing error. Other than those little things I've noticed it plays great and I'm enjoying rewatching these episodes I still recommend it.

Original FMA anime
This came before brotherhood and adapts part of the manga while diverging into a different direction with new characters half way through. Sloth and Wrath are completely different than Brotherhood, and they don’t introduce Briggs at all. This series gets wrapped up nicely to the follow up movie called Conqueror of Shamballa. If you are a fun of the series you will enjoy this show.

Legendary Anime Finally Gets A Box Set It Deserves.
Fullmetal Alchemist (2003), still holds up today as one of the best anime series ever made. This Collectors Edition not only does the show justice, but it is arguably one of the best blu-ray releases ever made by Funimation. Everything inside the box is of outstandingly high quality as one would expect for the high price. The art book is beautiful, large and was enjoyable to read and the art cards were a nice addition but what stood out the most was all the little details put into the entire set. Without spoiling the excitement of opening the box for the first time, all I can say is you can truly tell that the box set was created by people who are passionate about the series. For fans, this is the only must have collectors edition for the entire Fullmetal Alchemist series. Final Comments: For those debating the price while it may seem like a lot to spend for a show, per episode, it is cheaper than most $60 limited edition boxsets on the market (at the time of this review). If you collect anime and are a fan of this show, you will not regret this purchase.

excelente

The Transmutation of a Phenomenon: An Inside Look - 第51話 オーディオコメンタリー (英語) - 日本語TV 紹介 (日本語) - L’Arc~en~Ciel “Ready Steady Go”第2クール OP テーマ(日本語) - 裏鋼 (日本語) - ノンクレジットOP/ED映像 (各クール分収録) OP: メリッサ、Ready Steady Go、UNDO、リライト ED:消せない罪、扉の向こうへ、Motherland、I Will - 米国 予告編 (英語) - 日本 予告編 (日本語) [北米版の制約について] この blu-ray は、いわゆる「国コードロック」や「強制字幕」の制限がかかっており、注意が必要です。
