how to change the chime?

plug it in and the longer button on the side will change each time you press it. When you choose the one you want, have the remote near the plugged in unit. press the volume control button for 5 seconds until a ding dong is heard and the LED indicator starts flashing. then press the remote transmitter button. It will play the ringtone when it's paired. (may take more than 1 time) You can also go on line.

I'd like to put a receiver in the basement. Would it work there?

I have 3 receivers; 2nd floor, main level and basement. All work perfectly and loud enough to hear everywhere in the house!
