The Perfect Lightweight Raincoat for California’s Rainy Season
Finding the right raincoat for California’s rainy season can be a challenge, but this lightweight raincoat checks all the boxes. It’s perfect for mild climates, providing excellent water resistance without the bulk or insulation of heavy-duty jackets—ideal for those misty mornings and heavy warm showers. The material is breathable yet extremely effective at keeping you dry, and its lightweight design makes it easy to layer over a sweater or t-shirt, depending on the temperature. The coat also packs down small, making it perfect for tossing into a bag or backpack when the forecast is uncertain. The hood is a standout feature: adjustable and snug enough to stay in place during windy conditions without obstructing your view. Additionally, the raincoat’s sleek design transitions easily from outdoor adventures to casual city outings, so you don’t feel like you’re wearing technical gear all day.For Californians looking for a versatile, lightweight raincoat to handle the crazy rain of the winter season, this is an excellent choice. It strikes the perfect balance between function and style, making it a reliable companion for the rain without being overkill for our typically temperate climate.

An excellent jacket for light wind and occassional light rain
In the last few years, Marmot has upgraded the rain-proofing coating they apply to the inside of the fabric of this jacket. The new coating resists cracking adn peeling so it should last for a long time. My original Marmot jacket that was basically identical to this new one, and it lasted for 8 years before its rainproofing coating started to flake off. This jacket has a fit that I would call semi-athletic, meaning it fits an American guy (or gal) who is in reasonably decent shape but who is clearly not an Olympic hopeful. The hood with adjustable elastic band, has a clever velcro tab at the base of the neck that adjusts the hood up off of the face if you want. The sleeves are ventilated, and the two pockets close with YKK zippers. ,The stitching, the cut, fit and finish of this jacket is superb. The price is also easy on the wallet. 6 stars in my book.

Almost the perfect rain coat!
Lightweight, thin, packable, fits into its on pocket. My only issue and it’s not limited to just this jacket. It’s not long enough to cover your butt! Could be a flaw in the industry or it could be a way to sell you the pants. Regardless it’s a great jacket! The armpit vents are amazing!

great packable water and wind resistant layer
Took this on a trip to Europe. Performed like a champ.EASY TO CARRY: Collapses into its own little bag by stuffing itself into the right pocket. Note that there is no difference between the left and right pocket EXCEPT that the right pocket has a second zipper pull so that you can close the pocket when it is inside-out (because you stuffed the rest of the jacket into it). Doing this or even just quickly rolling the jacket up means you can carry it easily in your day pack. Light weight and low volume.WATER RESIST: Pretty good performance! taped seams. I wore it in medium rain and it kept my top dryHOOD: another reviewer complained that the hood was too long a drooped over the eyes, obscuring vision. Simple fix! Use the velcro tab back at the base of the neck to adjust how much the hood can go forward. Adjusting the velcro an inch can make a big difference! Also you can roll the hood down and tuck it into the collar.BREATHABILITY: This is waterproof and not Gore-tex (which would cost way more) so its not really breathable. But it has deep pit-zips on both sides, a reliable no-stick zipper in front, and wide sleeves at the wrist (adjustable with velcro) so you can easily create some airflow.WARMTH: Not really much insulation. But if you combine it with other layers, it can work well. For instance, I wore a t-shirt and a merino wool sweater with the jacket in reserve in my backpack. As afternoon became evening and the temperature dropped down by 10 degrees F. I put on the jacket and a knit hat and was fine. So the jacket is good for iffy weather but also for cooling at night if you're out for a full day.STYLE: It's reasonably good looking outdoor/active wear. Clean lines and lays smooth. Mine is the deep blue.DURABILITY: Seems well made. All the stitching and zippers are good quality. I have a Marmot high end gore-tex jacket and Marmot ski pants that perform well for years. So I trust the Marmot brand. This lightweight jacket seems to be quality too. No issues on my trip but I've only had the jacket two months.OVERALL: This is an easy 5 stars if your looking for easy to pack water and wind protection that looks good and fits comfortably at an affordable price point. Especially good for travel where you want to be efficient in what you're packing.

Waterproof jacket
Have worn this jacket twice in moderate rain while working outside for 2 hours. Held up well and was completely waterproof. Very good construction and materials. Super light weight.

Great for trips abroad
I ordered this jacket to take with me on a trip to Europe during spring time due to its portability.I found it very useful that i can stuff it in its own left pocket, took very little space in the bag. This jacket combined with a puffer jacket underneath, provided warmth and rain+wind protection. Plus it looks good!I don’t have experience with this jacket for heavy usage, and I don’t think this jacket fits heavy usage. The price and portability suggest it’s intended for casual use when you need something light and accessible as a quick solution. For frequent/heavy use, I would probably buy something more robust.I bought both M and L sizes, one for me and one for my dad.I am 185cm and roughly 80kg.Medium size fits me well and enables me to put a puffer jacket underneath, although with a puffer jacket it’s a bit tight. If you prefer more loose fit and rely on layering, L is the way to go. M is more fit and suitable when you don’t need layering.Bottom line, this jacket is very practical when you need mild rain protection that is portable and easily accessible. It looks good and is perfect for trips abroad.
