An excellent buy...
After visiting several stores and reading many online reviews , I purchased this Sony STR-DH100 2-Channel Audio Receiver as a replacement for my aging receiver. I just wanted a basic sound system for a reasonable price and without a whole lot of "bells and whistles". I only use it for listening to music and the radio. I couldn't be more pleased with the quality of sound and ease of installation and operation. My speakers are located in the ceiling of 5 rooms throughout my house and the quality of the receiver has significantly improved the sound that comes through each of the speakers. As other reviewers have said, this Sony Audio Receiver is an excellent piece of equipment for a reasonable cost. I would purchase it again without reservation and highly recommend it for anyone looking for a basic audio receiver that delivers high quality sound at a reasonable price. You can't go wrong with this one!

Was Hoping For A Little More Personality!
I have to say up front that I've only spent a week with my new Sony and my opinion may change but due to the lack of reviews here are my first impressions: This is a very capable receiver, nicely built with a useful and easy to understand remote. I, like most people reading this, was looking for a second receiver to put in my den to listen to cd's, mp3, and internet radio. My main Home Theater Receiver is a Denon. The Sony has a nice full sound and is easy to adjust to your liking. There are bass and treble controls on the remote, a plus for me. So far I am happy with the sound but I can tell something is lacking, a depth or warmth, whatever you want to call it, I imagine the Onkyo 8255 has what I really want but at 50 less watts per channel and $50.00 more in price. To be honest I don't know if the trade off is worth it but for those of you who have been trying to decide which one to buy I made my decision to try the less expensive new model from Sony first, then after a week or two if I am not sold, I'll probably return it and buy the Onkyo. I will say that the 96db s/n ratio is better than some alternatives like the Teac and Sherwood. If you've been looking for receivers in this price range you know there isn't a huge variety so with that in mind I would recommend this receiver over any other similar priced model with the Onkyo being the exception. The Sony has a nice full sound, the tuner works great, it has a sleep timer and a nice quality feel, that counts for something. Sound being subjective, I think I am a little spoiled by my Denon but this Sony does sound better then the Yamaha it replaced. REVIEW UPDATE:Now that I have gotten to know this receiver inside and out and have spent over a month listening to various kinds of music through my polk Monitor 30 speakers, I can say that this Sony receiver is very well built and has a good clean sound, it was a bit harsh at first but now that it is being used daily I really enjoy the sound coming through the speakers. The remote is very nice and the buttons are laid out in a way that I can easily use the remote without looking at it. Music is very clear, full of bass and treble and a bit of the warmth of my Denon, something that I was hoping would happen as I first wrote that it lacked "warmth". For the money you can't go wrong, everything I play sounds very good and there is no distortion even when turningthe volume up considerably loud. If you are on the fence about this, do what i did, buy it and try it out and if you don't think it is worth the price you can always return it, that's the great thing about Amazon, no hassles!! Anyway, I highly recommend the Sony STR-DH100.

A Winner for a Budget Amp/Receiver
By no means am I an audio expert, but I do have a little background in recording, production, etc, at least from my undergrad. I live in an apartment in downtown Denver, so obviously I wasn't looking for a full on 7.1 system to put me in a hole in the wallet and alienate me from my neighbors, so a simple 2-channel setup seemed appropriate. I was torn between this and the Onkyo TX-8255, but ultimately settled on this one and a pair of small Sony bookshelf speakers to go with. The speakers pulled 120W and I just wanted something with that kind of power to back them up without running a risk of burning them out prematurely. Anyway, I got these both in the mail together and had everything wired and running in less than five minutes. VERY simple to get dialed in. Obviously not many options for EQ, but the treble/bass control helped get everything just right. I hooked up my iPod through the CD-in and gave it a whirl, and boy am I glad to have jumped on this. For less than $200 total, I definitely invested in a solid basic sound setup for the bedroom or an office or study. Highs and mids are well represented, lows get a little lost in the upper brilliance, but that's to be expected with smaller speakers (at that point you could peruse a sub if you so choose). By no means am I saying these are the top of the top in terms of sound setup, but I would recommend these every time for someone who: 1) was on a budget, 2) lived in confined quarters, and/or 3) wanted quality sound for recreational listening. A+ all around.Setup:Sony STR-DH100 amp/receiver(2) Sony SS-B1000 speakers(2) Aiwa NA-777U factory speakers (ancient I know, but they help add body to the bottom end)

sony str dh100 receiver
Excellent base model. Using for a garage system. Good no frills basic receiver. Sony has always been reliable for me. I'm using it for 3-4 sets of speakers but it only has outlets for 2 sets. I'll be getting a speaker selector to control 3-4 sets of speakers in different areas. The receiver is working well. It has a media button on the back but I already have an AV cord which plugs into my mp3 player and ipod which works well. Great value for the price.Update: I bought a pair of older big pioneer speakers on craislist. This reciever makes them sound really nice, great sound and power.
