Not as expected
I received this item today and was initially very disappointed. The product is listed on the tag as being 85% polyester and only 15% cotton. This is not an organic product, it has a layer of 100% organic cotton. You cannot see well in the product photo, but the covering is not cotton, it is a shiny synthetic. However, it is 1/3 the cost of the fully organic changing pad and as I have a 100% organic cotton cover for it, I will keep it.Here are my reasons why:-It is made in the United States so I worry slightly less about what might be lurking in the materials-At 32", it fits perfectly on my changing table-It is preferable to the vinyl versions that are most prevalent when shopping for changing pads-It does seem to be made with non toxic, non harmful materialsWe bought the Naturpedic Organic mattress and it is amazing. If you can afford their changing pad, I would go that route instead. Otherwise, I would take this item over other changing pads, even though it is not what I would consider 'organic' as such. Since the baby will only be on the changing pad during diapering, I'm not as concerned as I would be about a mattress or other objects he is in contact with for longer periods of time.

30" changing pad fits Baby's Dream galley rails
This changing pad fit our needs and we didn't have to give up our goal of avoiding vinyl in baby products. We purchased galley rails to turn the top of our Baby's Dream dresser into a changing table and then had no luck finding a changing pad that was short enough to fit it at local retailers, which only stocked 32" and larger size pads. The 30" LA Baby contour pad fits in between the rails perfectly. We were also very concerned about vinyl breaking down and were so happy to find this changing pad that had an organic cotton cover, plus being made in the USA gave us additional comfort about the rest of the materials. After finding a pad that was the right shape, our next concern was finding a cover to fit it because there didn't seem to be any marketed for 30" pads. Luckily the Boppy Organic Changing Pad Set for 32" changing pads fits this 30" pad perfectly, almost as if it's made for a 30" pad instead of 32", and has a liner with a waterproof backing. We also put a cloth diaper down to soak up any spills because this looks like it will be a challenge to clean (that's a trade off of avoiding vinyl). I hope this makes life easier for someone else with the galley rails or questions about what cover to use on this.

A Fine Changing Pad
After reading the reviews, I decided to purchase this changing pad and I'm happy I did. At first I found myself pushing the save for later" button in my shopping cart because of a review complaining about the harmful chemical stuffing inside and I wanted to explore better options. The foam may not be 100% organic, but I came to the conclusion after looking at the other "organic" changing pad options offered on amazon that it's probably nothing to worry about. I mean, I keep the pad covered, I of course don't put my baby face down on it while changing her, she's on it for a minute at the most. Is the baby really going to be on the changing pad long enough to get any negative side effects from the pad? My reasoning says no. I also went for this pad because it was made in the USA. It works very well for my baby and I; it makes the diaper changing process much easier.

Love this changing pad!
I was so fed up with finding changing pads in stores that feel flimsy and cheap. I don't like the vinyl covered ones because everyone who uses them says they crack after just a few months of use. So even though vinyl is waterproof, what good is that feature if it cracks through to the padding?? So I went with this cotton/polyester one and am VERY happy with my decision. Not only is it soft, but it feels like it's good quality. Since it isn't waterproof, i'm just using washable lap pads (Carters brand) and could also easily cover this with a waterproof bassinet sheet. When the pad arrived, I was hoping I wouldn't open the plastic and get an awful smell of chemicals, but NOPE! I feel very confident that this product does not give off harmful chemicals. I would highly recommend this over all the other changing pads and let me tell you, i've done a lot of searching and researching! This is the best for the lowest price!

Nice but not waterproof
This is one of the few non toxic changing pads that come in a 32". I originally ordered a Summer Infant waterproof pad but it smelled like chemicals (even after a few days) so I ended up returning it. I wanted the Naturepedic one to match the crib mattress I already bought but it is too large for my changing table.Overall it is very nice. The fabric is similar to a mattress and you would definitely need a cover for it since it isn't waterproof (and probably some of those waterproof fabric pads to put on top of the cover)

Not really waterpoof
This item is nice, but not really waterproof or easily cleaned. The cover is a very soft fabric, but if there is a bit of a diaper mishap, it could be ruined immediately. There's no way to remove the cover and clean it separately from the foam pad and can't just be wiped clean.

Don't buy if you're concerned about toxic chemicals!
This changing pad arrived, as some reviewers have mentioned, with the padding all bunched up. Regardless of whether the fabric is organic or not, I am pretty sure the foam included inside the changing pad is pretty toxic. I emailed LA Baby about this and never got a response, so I'm assuming they don't really want anyone to know how the company is meeting federal fire regulations through their foam. If you read carefully, the description never once mentions what the inside of the changing pad is made out of. If you are looking for an inexpensive changing pad free of polybrominated fire retardants, pick up the Serta Organic Contour pad which is listed for a mere 89 dollars on Amazon (really?), or you can find it at most popular chain stores for 29.99.

Good, but needs cover
The pad itself is very nice - thick and soft. But I've put another cover over it and, for extra protection, I put a cloth diaper right under where baby's bottom goes. I can't imagine trying to clean this foam if it got wet. Fits perfectly in my changing table (32").
