A great older speaker that should be priced under 50 dollars.
First of all I am a def tech fan boy and love all their product. This is a great little audio device! It connects with ease and the sound is wonderful for what it is. Don't expect Def Tech's speaker output or something like jawbone, bose or other high end portable speakers. Yes, back when it came out you were paying for the name. I can clearly say that this speaker was at the top of the line for its time. It does the job well and actually performs better then my previous 90 dollar wireless speaker from Sony which I got 2 years ago. The only thing I do not like about it is that it does not have a phone button to take incoming calls. Lately, I use it for my old iPad 1, which I clip to the speaker. The speaker has given my iPad new life for me to watch videos or listen to music in the background or before going to bed. The design is sexy and def tech nailed it. I got this refurbished for 30 something dollars and should be about that much new these days as this device is a bit aged. Be careful with the micro usb connection it seems a bit fragile when you connect it to the charger input. All in all a great speaker that you can carry with you or have as an extra portable speaker laying around.

Not as good as I expected
After reading a number of reviews I decided to buy this speaker. I'm a huge def tech fan and own many different speakers made by this company, so I am familiar with their sound quality. So, I had an expectation that this would be a good choice for a Bluetooth speaker. Unfortunately, the speakers did not deliver. The clarity is good, as you would expect. However, the max volume is far lower than I expected - not really enough to fill even a small room. The bass is virtually non-existent - I didn't really expect much, and these under delivered to those low expectations. While not a huge fan of bose speakers, their Bluetooth options are far superior to this. The clarity in the bose is not as good, but mid range and bass are reasonable and it can easily fill a room. If you are looking to get these speakers to attach to the iPad and listen to them in close proximity ( to watch a movie, etc), then this speaker is a good choice. If you are using it like me, as a portable speaker for background music to take to the beach or to a hotel room, I think you will find this speaker underwhelming due to the extreme volume limitations.

It's nice, But....
Let's get this out front: Definitive Technology is one of the best Audio companies out there. They make great products for the home audio enthusiasts. The Sound Cylinder is another one of their products that offer the user to listen to audio from their BlueTooth product. I use it to play audio on my iPhone, iPad and my Apple MacBookAir. The quality of the audio is average and it is not stereo which is the problem with blue tooth speakers since BlueTooth only plays a monoral signal. The unit is fairly heavy and consequently I don't feel comfortable placing it on top of my computer. I'm afraid that the tension on the lid's hinge will eventually get loose. In fact the Sound Cylinder has already closed my screen by itself due to its weight. Using it as a stand for your tablet is a great idea (as shown in the picture above) I use it for my phone at work to play back audio and it works fine. I use two apps almost exclusively for audio: IHeartRadio and Conservative Talk Radio. For music I use Pandora.Pro: Works flawlessly, decent sound, charges from USB AND wall: Unit has both methods for charging. Looks Good on computer.Cons: Price, heavy.Unknowns: Battery life

Disappointing, I'm afraid.
This review is hard for me to write, because I am actually a *big fan* of 'Definitive Tech" products generally & have a pretty awesome home theater setup built around 4 Def-Tech BP-10s (the originals w/the soft-dome tweets) & one of their CLR-2002 center speakers (plus a couple Velodyne CT-150 subs)... and I absolutely love it... sounds incredible. Thus, when I saw this 'sound cylinder' & all the positive reviews, I thought, "Well, Def-tech' is pretty awesome, maybe they really can pull off some amazing sound out of that little gizmo."I was somewhat skeptical, since it's hard to imagine good sound being possible form such a small device, but again, all the positive reviews encouraged me to take a chance. After listening to it though, I wish I hadn't.I had hoped that I could plug this into my laptop on business trips & thus have 'good tunes' in my hotel room at night... But honestly, if your laptop has built-in speakers (as most seem to these days), their output is probably just about as 'good' as this 'sound cylinder' puts out.At least, in the case of my laptop (a typical 17 inch business model), there's virtually no difference.Hardly an 'upgrade' & certainly not for the cost involved. Also have to say that Amazon's shipping of this product left alot to be desired... These 'sound cylinders' come from Def-Tech in a little tube-shaped pkg that is essentially the size of the device itself (not much padding/protection of the device, in other words) & Amazon then put this item in a considerably larger box, **with no padding** whatsoever... other than a single flat letter-sized piece of brown butcher-type paper, which served no purpose at all as far as I can tell! Thus on the way from the Amazon warehouse to Alaska where I live, the product no doubt rattled around in there like a marble in a coffee can. And thus, it's no surprise that it arrived here with a little dent in the speaker's aluminum grill.Rather disappointing! In any case, again, it pains me not to be able to give this Def-Tech product a good review, but if possible, I would like to save someone else the disappointment that I've experienced.I truly can't understand how so many have given this thing the thumbs-up.
