The tale of 2 dogs and 2 different results!!
This is my last edit of my original review. It is now February 2021, and we purchased the unit in September 2018 to prevent our 2 small dogs from getting to the cat food. Dog #1 weighs around 30 lbs and is not that tall. Dog #1 has made her mission in life to eat anything she can find. The barrier has worked so well for her that we don't have to use the collar or have batteries in the unit 99% of the time.Dog #2 weighs about 20 lbs and is shorter than Dog#1. She recently discovered that with a lot of effort she can reach the cat food. So we put the collar on her, and she sailed across the barrier like it wasn't there. We verified the unit was working. Her fur is slightly heavier than Dog#1.So we moved the cat food to another piece of furniture that sits higher so neither dog can access the food. Thankfully, our cat isn't geriatric and can make the jump. Put away the barrier and the collar. Left the house and upon our return discovered Dog#1 had gnawed on the furniture holding the cat food in an attempt to reach the food and was quite destructive. Pulled out the collar and barrier, and all is well once again. Keeping the rating at 5 stars because it works like a charm for Dog#1. Have since been able to once again remove the collar and quit putting batteries in the barrier for Dog#1.Some tips:- Check the return policy if you decide to try the unit.- The barrier uses 4 AAA batteries. We purchased 8 rechargeable batteries once we discovered that the batteries do not last long at all. The rechargeable batteries last between 6-9 days. The unit has a blinking red light to indicate when the batteries need replacing.- It comes with a "one size fits all" collar. It will QUICKLY unravel (see middle picture) if you cut the collar, so we used hot glue and were able to save the remaining collar. We have since discovered that folks use a lighter to melt the trimmed edges to prevent it from unraveling. A lot less messy than the hot glue we used.- The collar takes two CR2032 batteries, and there is an off position you can use to preserve battery life should you be able to put the collar away. We leave the batteries in the collar for that 1% of the time that Dog#1 has to resume wearing the collar.

Doesn't Work on My Corgi
I was really excited to get this. My family and I just moved into our first brand new house. We had problems with our corgi peeing on the carpet at the old house, mostly due to the fact that I have a son who isn't potty trained but finds it funny to pee on the carpet and so Lady, our corgi, is just making her territory. I know that's the real issue but our new house is all tile downstairs (YEAAAA) So we were hoping we could use this to keep her downstairs. I tested it before I put it on her. It definitely shocks. I hate that feeling but apparently Lady doesn't. She walked over the barrier multiple times and then I sat on the stair the barrier was on and she walked up to me happy as could be, shaking her little butt letting me pet her. Apparently she doesn't care. I know shock collars have worked with her in the past, we used one to stem a barking problem and it work immediately, this was 2 years ago. She's 10. Maybe this one isn't intense enough but it has no settings to make that kind of change. It's an awesome idea but it needs some work. Also it says it works a couple feet away, the collar didn't start beeping until it was 18 inches away and started shocking at 10 inches, I measured to the collar.

Threshold kit works great to keep out of back hallway
I got the threshold kit to keep my beagle out of the back hall. It works wonderfully and given me one less thing to worry about. I have two toddlers who leave snacks in their rooms and my normally well behaved dog became a crack addict for goldfish, animal crackers and mac & cheese. We tried baby gates which were really annoying, barricading with crates, and just yelling at him "no back hall!" We were putting him in his crate for hours at a time, which just made him act out more. You need to play with settings and put the collar on relatively tight. I was worried about him running full speed and getting over it before it buzzed him, but he has only really tried it once and it made him give a surprised "yelp." Since then he will approach cautiously, which gives him a lighter buzz (I think) before he gets too close. Our hallway entrance is relatively narrow, so there is only about 3-4 inches on either side of bar before wall. I was concerned at dropping $90 for something that might not work, but I seriously wish I had bought this 6 months ago.

Buy the disc instead 👎🏽
Delayed beep no matter what setting. Medium cocker spaniel and large lab walk right through it. Doesnt work with other pet safe collars either. Not worth the purchase. I have the area disc that work way better.

Very good training aid
It just took our very stubborn beagle 2 zaps to figure out that upstairs is off limits. After two weeks removed it all together. It’s been months. Lesson learned

Not worth the money.
Unhappy. Spent nearly 800.00 on collars for all of our pets and 2 of 11 work full time the other 8 work intermittently and one doesn’t work at all even after a battery change. They beep like mad but don’t work. The animals just go past. Even on the stronger setting.

Works great.
Worked great. Dog quickly learned not to climb the stairs, and didn’t have to wear the collar very long.

for the price you're better off going with the normal Indoor Barrier (round disc)
This arrived very promptly and we were excited to try it. Unfortunately the advertised ranges are not even close to true. We ordered 2 of these and they both have different ranged. The longest range is about 18", where on the box it says it should be over 30". While we have made these work for where we needed them in the house, for the price you're better off going with the normal Indoor Barrier (round disc).

Save your money, try something else.
I wouldn’t even say that this worked from 12 inches away. Complete waste of money.
