Liberty Garden Products Hose Reel - Brass Swivel Replacement #4007

About 20 years ago I bought a hose reel/cart from Sam’s club. Over the years I’ve replaced the o-rings in the swivel joint when it would leak. Ultimately the swivel wore out completely. So I purchased this swivel to see if I could make it work. As it turns out the threads on this swivel are metric and what I needed was NPT 1/2-14. As I had the right die to cut NPT 1/2-14, it was easy enough to modify the threads on this swivel for my non-Liberty hose reel. At any rate, for anyone else looking for a swivel, and wondering if the threads on it are NPT 1/2-14—they are not. But this swivel can be easily modified if you have the correct die. As for the swivel itself, it seems to be well made and didn’t leak.

Works as advertised

Probably need to go ahead and buy the elbow hose adapter this threads into when you by this part. You have to cut a large opening into the hose reel to get access to the internal thread connection to remove the old and install this part. Despite the warnings of other DYI's, and my best efforts, the connection was so corroded/tight, and space so limited that I wound up bending the bronze tube of the elbow hose connector, resulting in a crack at the pinch point. Regardless, I like the hose reel, and it has been good for 15 years, now with $30 in the 2 new parts, and and expanding an access hole in the reel body, I have it fully functioning again. so I did not need to spend $130 on a new reel assembly. But was quite the project. You can do it but be aware it is not a simple as it ought to be. I also see newer versions of the model have a larger opening in the reel now, so maybe they fixed this issue.

This brass replacement fitting was made well. It appeared to be a better fitting that the original. It was is made of brass compared to the original fitting made of aluminum. The fitting was easy to install and fit correctly to the hose reel.
