Works Great!
Most of the reviews I read before I purchased my first mandoline were positive for ones that I would have to purchase on-line. I wanted a slicer within a day or two, so my first purchase was from Bed Bath and Beyond. All of the attachments were attached to the slicer and at first I thought it was neat. Then, I went to use it and realized that every time I used the slicer, all of the attachments would get dirty. I returned it without even using it. I read a LOT of reviews before I bought my second mandoline. The second slicer I purchased was from Ace Hardware. I usually wouldn't purchase something like this from Ace; however, the slicer they carry had some good reviews. I retured it after one use. The blade was so dull that it wouldn't slice through a tomato. Then I purchased the Swissmar Borner V-7000 and I am very happy with it. It is simple and easy to use. With the push of a button I can change the thickness of a slice. It has a setting where the board is pushed right up to the blade for storage so you don't get cut when shuffling the mandoline around. It is light and easy to use with rubber feet so it doesn't slide when slicing. All I have to do to use it is grab it off the counter, push the button for desired thickness and start slicing. A quick rinse as soon as I am done using it and it is clean. It is so easy to use and clean that I use it even for the smallest jobs like making a quick sandwich just for myself. I highly recommend this slicer

(Almost) Perfect!
It took me a few weeks to research and decide on mandolin I wanted to get. I needed something that slices very thin and obviously very sharp. In this mandolin I found both features. It slices almost paper-thin without almost any effort. I also got a pair of cut resistant glove based on some reviews but so far I didn't have to use it since its food safety holder does a great job of protecting my hand. I am also impressed by the food safety holder for the fact that it works with leaving only the minimum of vegetables to be handled by hand - or to throw away. Cleanup is easy as well as changing the blades. As other reviewers mentioned too, I also wish it could create larger pieces for fries. If I could I'd give 4.5 starts but I like to round up.

Saves kitchen prep time for sure
This mandolin is awesome. I can chop veggies perfectly and quickly for stir fries, casseroles, veggie plates, sushi and etc. I don't use the bit that supposed to hold your vegetables as I find it doesn't work too well with small veggies. I'd really advise people to buy a cut resistant glove with it, as the blades are super sharp. The two extra blades have a holder and the one that sits in the mandolin is stored with the blade covered so there's no danger in cutting yourself. Stores easily as everything attaches to the back. I find an old toothbrush works really well to clean it in those small spaces in between small blades where you don't want to put your fingers. Easy clean up and worth the money!

Almost Perfect, But Beware... It Bites!
Wow, I had no idea slicing could be this easy. This product is one of the best-designed slicers I've ever seen. It's incredibly effective, easy to clean, and stores safely and compactly. Word of advice: DO use the food holder if you can. The blades on this thing are unbelievably sharp. I thought other reviewers were exaggerating or clumsy, but the very first thing I did with this thing is cut myself and bleed all over the food I was preparing. It's damn sharp, and the bladed attachments make it even more dangerous to use. I do wish this thing could cut slightly thicker slices. It does an amazing job at the thin and medium stuff, but thick slices are out of the questions. Same goes for the "fry" attachment. The spacing is far too narrow, and I'm left with julienne-sized sticks of whatever I'm slicing. The "dicing" feature is questionable. First, you can only dice stuff REALLY REALLY small, like 1/8" in size. And second, you need to rotate the holder by 90 degrees on every stroke for the dicing to work. But the holder is only meant to go in one direction. When you're running it sideways, you risk hitting the sharp blades with it. It's an odd balancing act. So after I sliced my hand open repeatedly on this tool, I decided to follow advice and buy some cut-resistant gloves. The gloves I chose were the NoCry Cut Resistant Gloves available here on Amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IVM1TKO/ref=cfb_at_prodpg ). When I received the gloves the next day (thanks to Amazon Prime and cheap overnight shipping), I immediately donned them and attempted to slice some tomatoes. The gloves, they did nothing! Well, except turn red when I sliced right through them and into my thumb. Those are some damn sharp blades!!! Be extra careful when cleaning this tool! The blades end up being fully exposed, and sometimes the only way to get rid of the food stains is to scrub the blades with a cloth. As per the instructions, this tool isn't meant to go in the dishwasher. On the other hand, drying is a breeze. Just assemble everything back together and let it stand on its end either in the sink or on a drying pad. It'll drip dry in no time at all. Luckily, storing it is much safer than using it. In the "Safe" position, the default tray protects the blades completely. And with the attachment holder, the bladed trays aren't likely to bite when you least expect it. So why 4 stars instead of 5? I really wish I could cut thicker slices/sticks with this thing. It would just need one more notch of adjustment and a slightly wider spacing on the bladed attachment to be perfect. But since this is as good as mandoline slicers get, it's hard to complain.

How many fingers left now?
Just read the instructions and grabbed four potatoes to master the plain insert... There are three different blades: plain, 3,5 mm and 7 mm insert. I have just experimented with the plain insert and read, reread and reviewed the pictures. Time well spent and must report this is an awesome piece of equipment. One can slice and dice (I just sliced) potatoes producing everything from potato chip thins, 1/16th-inch, 1/8th-inch and 1/4-inch pieces. Plan to bake these in the oven for about 30 minutes after soaking in water and mixing with spices and oil. Am using CRISPY SWEET POTATO FRIES on Yukon Gold Potatoes. This recipe works well on sweet potatoes, so should work on Yukon Gold just as well. Baking time is 400 degrees F. Don't know what results will be but should be similar to sweet potatoes (yams.) I highly recommend this product. I learned about it from other shoppers reviews and agree with their comments. And there are still two insert blades to master; that is the dicer and julienne insert! This tool is worth every penny and works like a slicer dicer should. Spend the time to understand the tool's settings and enjoy!

Wish I had bought it sooner! LOVE it.
This is my very first mandoline and after several uses, I wish I had bought it sooner. I have used it solely for slicing vegetables (celery, onions and cukes) for a particular salad that my family enjoys. Prior to buying it, my husband & I spent quite a bit of time doing research on several mandolines before we decided to purchase this model from Borner, particularly after watching several youtube videos on how to use it with all its attachments. I have not as of yet used it for julienne-ing or cubing or waffling but I can tell you it makes slicing my vegetables paper-thin an absolute breeze and reduced what once was a 2 hour task to 40 minutes. It is VERY sharp so be sure to secure the blade whenever it is not being used and keep your fingers clear of the blade when using it. The "V" shape of the blades seems to be the key to its ease of use. It also is easy to clean. I love it!

NOT SAFE!
VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS PRODUCT. Had to give it a 1 star because review would not work unless there was a star. There should be NEGATIVE stars! Problem begins with the Directions. One needs a Degree from a German Polytechnic institute to be able to figure them out. They were printed in what looked like several dozen languages... I suggest CLEAR DIRECTIONS be written in each language and different inserts used instead of trying to get by with an incomprehensible mish-mash of translation. After trying to understand Directions and line drawings for over 15 minutes I decided to just use the gizmo - thought, 'how hard can this be?" Well... this is not a nice easy kitchen tool. Not safe either! 1 - The "SAFETY" BUTTON which holds the platform at a specific level - KEPT FALLING OUT. It is a big plastic button with a thin plastic squiggly tail which is supposed to STAY seated in a narrow slot. With the first swipe of a veggie down toward the blade, the button thing fell out. This caused the platform to abruptly sink out from under the hand guarded veggie which then jammed into the "V" blades. 2 - Veggie was a carrot. The prongs in the Hand Guard did not firmly hold the carrot because they were too short - or the hand guard is too shallow. Regardless, this is a Very Bad Design for carrots. Once the carrot was jammed in place the prongs could not hold so the hand guard and my hand ended up on the counter along with a bunch of carrot gratings from where the prongs scraped along it. Good thing I had a good grip on the hand guard. Fingers into the blades would not have been fun. 3 - Tried several times to replace the button thingy but could not make it stay in place even with the other blade attachments. The plastic seems to be too slick to hold the Safety button's tail in the slot. SUGGESTION: try sticky plastic and better design. 4 - Returned slicer and got an old fashioned stand up 4 sided metal grater like grandma's from 1910.

Easy to Use, Easy to Clean
The "V" configuration of the blades is perfect. Very easy to adjust thickness settings. Great safety features and accessories. Feel very safe using this mandolin which is important to me. Would highly recommend this to anyone. Good value for the money.

Good product
Bought this to help me out in dinner prep. Worth the buy. Great quality and is very sturdy. Made life easy for fries(McD's shoestring size). Very satisfied with this purchase and would recommend.

So glad I got this
So glad I got this. Bought a different kind (diagonal blade) a few years back for 40$ and gave it to charity. This is such a great product and love the locking/safe mechanism. Well worth the expense in my opinion. Cole slaw is so easy, shredding and even curbing. Absolutely love it, way better than diagonal blades.

Excellent tool
This is a real time saver. It's also excellent for making uniform slices. My only complaint is that I would like to make larger "juliennes". They are a bit small for French fries. It took a little getting used to. If you are shredding cabbage, don't core the cabbage first. Cutting the cabbage in half was perfect. It leaves very little behind in the food holder. I recommend getting one of the cut resistant gloves to go with this. Some food isn't a very good shape for the food holder and those blades are sharp. I use a cut resistant glove, rather than the food holder for cabbage.

La facilité n'était pas au r.d.v.
Pas aimé la façon dont on changeait les lames, plutôt propice à se blesser. Fastidieux au nettoyage.
