uvBeast V3 365nm Black Light UV Flashlight, High Power and Long Range

Insanely intense. Think of those LED Mag-lite's in terms of radiation intensity, but in the 365nm UV range. Compared to the cheaper (1/3-1/2 the cost) 385nm units this light has a very intense center spot-like beam (versus the more narrow-flood of a standard UV flashlight) and really brings out the contrast of any flourescent materials by being much less visible in the background. One thing I noted: this flashlight gets very hot after a few minutes, even with that decent heat sink designed into the head. Checking it with a photospectrometer, I found that it irradiates a massive 820 µMols of iR (think REALLY bright spotlight, but in the infrared range) at 12"--if this was visible spectrum, it would measure approximately 47,000lux. You can feel it, a very distinct beam of warmth when shining the light on the inside of your wrist from a foot away. So if your application needs UV but must remain at cold temperatures at close distances, this may not be the flashlight for you. Aside from the heat issue, this is a well-built and very intense UV flashlight. I'm shining it on everything. Even in a normal day-lit indoor room I can still see fluorescence in objects. This uses removeable lithium ion (18650 button-head) batteries. The unit includes two batteries, a charger and an extension tube so a third 18650 (not included) battery can be added. Interestingly, in the interest of answering "is it any brighter with the third battery installed" I ran the spectrometer several times each with two and three batteries. I noted a REDUCTION in intensity by about 3% when running on 3 batteries (guessing there's some inefficiency in voltage conversion from 11.1v down the the unit's 7.4v operating voltage). So you're trading another 50% runtime for a very slight (not noticeable to the eye) drop in illumination intensity. Highly recommended if you can afford its price tag. This is one tick shy of a full lab-grade unit at a quarter the price.

This is like no other UV light I have used. I have had experience with cheap "UV" lights in the past that don't do what is expected. I say "UV" because they were all 395nm. There is a night and day difference between 395 and 365nm. This UV torch is extremely bright and powerful. There is little to no light bleed. When shining on black surfaces, there is a barely noticeable glow from the hot spot, but anything that reacts to UV light just pops. Things that react to UV glow intensely even in a lit room at night. In a dark room, everything that reacts to UV comes to life. It detects stains like crazy so don't shine it in your bathroom or kitchen unless that's is what you got it for. The flashlight does get warm with extended use which is typical of high output LED torches whether they are UV or not. It is also somewhat on the bulkier side, but not too crazy for a torch with this output. The operation is simple with just an on/off switch. The flashlight itself is pretty good quality. It comes with everything you need. It comes with 2 batteries, a charger and an expansion segment for an optional third battery. I would highly recommend this torch. This torch behaves like any regular good quality torch except that it is UV. I has a nice hot spot and good illumination around it. The 365nm does not have that annoying purple light that drowns out UV reactive items and this wavelength causes everything that reacts with UV to really pop and opposed to not really with 395nm. For people who have not experienced something like this, it is a game changer.

I bought this in preparation for an upcoming coolant leak job that has been so far impossible to find. It arrived quickly and I was surprised by the size and weight of it. It feels substantial in my hand but not cumbersome or excessively heavy. It is about 8.5 inches long in 2 cell configuration or a bit over 11 inches in 3 cell configuration. It appears to be a great quality product designed to hold up for years of use and is even double O-ring sealed. I don't know if it is water proof and I don't plan to find out on purpose but it should be water resistant enough that I wont have any worries about using it in the rain if need be The only thing I have found about it that I would ask to change is to have some flat spots machined into the outer circumference of the head so it is not so prone to rolling away if you lay it down. Since my job isn't schedule to be here until next week, I decided to play with my new toy for a bit. Let's just say I will never take it to a hotel, I'd rather remain unaware. I saw stuff in places that made me scratch my head as to how something could get there! Some places I expected such as around the cat's litter box, but not 7 feet up on a wall in a rarely used room. After becoming grossed out at some of the places and how much showed up, I decided to focus on other things. I can see this being a great prop for a CSI cosplay or Halloween costume. I had a pair of saloon type swinging doors that were recently installed going into a utility room, won't make that mistake again but that's unrelated. The doors looked good, until I put the UV Beast to them. The stain that was applied to them looked like it had been put on with paint brush or something! You could see the direction of the strokes that were used to apply the stain! Not only that but you could see what I can only describe as florescent marker scribbles showing up thru the stain! I certainly see how this could be useful in appraisals of certain artworks. I even noticed that knots in wooden posts around my porch glow. I've used it on money to see some of the hidden features used to thwart counterfeiters. I have not used it to hunt minerals or anything like that but I can see that this thing easily has enough power to make things react in daylight based on my limited use so far. I don't know how long it will run on the included batteries before needing a recharge as I have not used it continuously yet to the point of it needing to be charged. It does come with an extension barrel to make it hold a 3rd battery to increase run time if needed. The only problem is you will have to find a different source for the batteries as UV Beast does not sell the batteries. Thankfully you can go to the company's webpage and they do tell you where to look for quality extra batteries. I do plan to buy extras and a charger so that I should always have a set of fully charged batteries ready to go. If you don't plan to use it a lot you may not need extra batteries but if you do plan to use it for work I would recommend the extra batteries and charger. The supplied charger works ok, I do sometimes have to roll the batteries after putting them in the charger to get them to make contact so they will charge. If you do plan on a third battery I suggest a charger anyway since the supplied charger only charges 2 batteries at a time. Overall I think this is a great light that has many uses and is powerful enough to be used in most conditions. Again, the ONLY thing I would want to change is to add some flats on it to make it not so prone to rolling away and that is just a minor inconvenience, not really a problem unless it rolls off a high enough place to damage the light when it lands. It's something UV Beast may want to address on any future versions but it's not a deal breaker on this kind of light.

I wasn't going to leave a review because the reviews are already so high that I didn't feel like I had to add yet another 5 star review. And then I used the flashlight in a group of other people all with different various brands of black lights (looking for glowing rocks in the night) and I can say that the uvBeast light outshone (see what I did there) every other light, and by a large margin. The spread, the intensity, the distance, all of it was superior. I was already over the moon with the light. Then I had a small hiccup, on only the 3rd use of the charger, one of the bays stopped working. I messaged the company thinking they would maybe send me a replacement or worst case scenario they would send me a link to alternate battery chargers. They responded immediately and at zero cost to me, expedited the solution. The product is already very impressive, the amazing customer support is the handful of cherries on top of the Sunday!

In a separate review, I gave a glowing review to the $40 "Little Brother" version of this light. Well, the "Big Brother" is no less deserving! I've had it for about 9 months at this point, and have used it everywhere I go. As someone who collects stones (both raw and shaped), and who also loves UV-reactive things universally, this light opened up a whole new world for me. Prior to this, I owned a 385-395nm light, which I enjoyed...BUT, it has a lot of limitations. For one, being much closer to the visual range, it gives off a lot of visible light in the pink and purple hues, which overwhelm everything in its beam, and makes photographing the UV reaction next to impossible, as it overwhelms the camera lens. Second, there are a limited number of stones that react in that wavelength range (I've seen 2-3 dozen, give or take, so far). But at 365nm, BOTH of those issues are solved. There is still a small amount of bluish light visible, but very small compared to the higher wavelengths...so the visibility, details and ability to photograph are all IMMENSELY better. And the number of stones/minerals that react at that specific wavelength is EXPONENTIALLY greater--I have well over 100 different stones in my collection so far, and there are hundreds more...PLUS, all the stones that react at 385-395nm ALSO react at 365nm. So in every way, a 365nm light is hands-down the far better choice for those who love UV. After that, which light is best for you depends on what you plan to do with it. If your viewing of UV is generally limited to stuff in one room, or stuff within arm's reach, the "Little Brother" version would probably do just fine. But for me, I like POWER. I like the ability to take my light outside on hiking or mining trips, and spot UV-reactive stones at a distance. So with both my 385-395nm light and this one, I chose to go with the bigger, more powerful (and therefore, more expensive) version. But I haven't regretted that decision one bit in the 9 months since I bought it. The 2 batteries that come with the light are a unique size (not AA or AAA as many lesser lights tend to use), but they last a long time during constant use (4-6 hours on average), and are rechargeable. From empty, they do take a while to fully recharge, so I recommend buying an extra set of batteries (which is something I do with ANY and EVERY electronic device I own), so you can have 1 set to use while the other recharges, or to extend your usage time when away from places to charge. Two sets of batteries will last you most of the day--8 to 12 hours, depending on usage. The only downside is, the longer you use it, the hotter the grip gets from the batteries heating up, almost to the point of becoming uncomfortable to hold. But if you switch it off when not in use, and take a break every little bit, that shouldn't be a problem. You can also get the smaller version, which only requires 1 battery (which can be charged inside the light via a charging port in the side of the light body), and doesn't have anywhere near the heat output of the larger, more powerful light. So it all depends what you want out of your light. I prefer power, so I chose the larger light. But having bought the smaller one for 4 friends, all of whom absolutely LOVE it, you cannot go wrong with either light. But having seen and used more than a dozen different UV lights of all kinds and qualities, for me, UV Beast makes the best ones for the money. Yes, there are cheaper lights out there...but they also have more issues--power, flickering lights, go through batteries like candy, etc. So if you want a top-quality light that works well, is rechargeable, and provides you a choice between small & convenient, or large & powerful...UV Beast is my recommendation, every day of the week. And that sentiment is universally shared by everyone I have either bought the lights for, or who has bought one themselves based on my recommendations.

As a backlight this thing is fantastic. Extremely bright and causes stones and other things to fluoresce that weaker lights won’t. It’s sturdy and well sealed against the elements, and the aluminum body serves as an effective heat sink for the powerful bulbs My only criticisms for the company is that an onboard charger, and adjustable levels of brightness would be useful. Currently you have to remove the 18650 cells to charge. (Some reviews call these non standard batteries, it’s actually a very common lithium battery, so spares aren’t hard to find but it’s true it’s not a AA or similar) Sometimes the insane output is excessive and a way to dial it back (even just having the switch vary between full, half, and quarter power like many flashlights I have) would be beneficial. I’d gladly pay $5 more for a model with such features, and the smaller version of this light actually includes a usb c port, and based on my experience with this model, I have purchased one of those for the situations where I could use a weaker light

We do a lot of rock hunting in Michigan's upper peninsula. This light just using it around the house and yard is incredible. Have bought a few other uv365 black lights as well as my kids. Nothing we have purchased compares to this. Look forward to utilizing it up north this next month.

I received a used light. It was in a sticky seal bag and the charger and battery extension were in a ziplock bag, there is scratches all over the frame and the batteries are dirty and scuffed up. There was also this seemingly random hardware. One of the two batteries does not charge and the light doesn't turn on even when using two known good batteries. Update: Issue corrected via replacement sent by Amazon. I have received a replacement. It's new in the box and both batteries are working. The light is pretty insane. It's the first time I've ever seen a 365nm light so I'm not sure if it's simply the difference between that and the average 395nm light. Here's to hoping it lasts a while.

I'm a newbie to Rockhounding, and after buying the 'wrong' torch, decided to pay more for a quality bit of kit. 'The Beast' is certainly that! The results speak for themselves. For me the downside is that it also highlights the creepie crawlers! Yuk! Happily, it gives a white light, and also highlights the fluorescent rocks, which was the purpose of buying it. I'm satisfied! I can recommend The Beast! Easy to recharge and easy to use. Not too heavy for a long rockhounding session at night, AND it works during the day under the right circumstances. I have not tried using it in bright sunlight but it works in my garage and cloudy days.

Je retire une étoile car c'est quand même un peu cher. A la limite pour ce prix ils pourraient intégrer une bonne paire de lunette de protection. Mais la qualité est là. La lampe est puissante, le spectre UV semble propre. Il y a une belle projection. Je m'en sers notamment pour la fluorescence des minéraux. Evidemment, ça marche mieux en condition obscure ! Ce n'est pas une toche led classique pour éclairer de larges zones, et ce n'est pas son rôle. Je suis un peu mitigé sur le pas de vis du corps de la lampe, à voir à l'usage. En tous cas en terme de construction et de puissance, c'est parfait. Il y a une "rallonge" avec des joins pour permettre de rajouter une troisième batterie pour une utilisation prolongée. C'est assez apprécié pour une utilisation sur le terrain (dehors, dans une grotte). Je remarque quand même que ça fait mal aux yeux, ce qui n'est pas étonnant, le spectre étant à 365nm. Je ne saurais trop vous conseiller d'investir dans une bonne paire de lunettes anti UV dédiée afin de ne pas vous abimer les yeux. Méfiez vous des UV, ils sont puissants et ils sont réfléchis par les surfaces blanches (des feuilles de papiers par exemple). Bref, la torche est, je trouve, top !
