This will do for now, and next time too, probably.
The metal end goes in the meat and the plastic end tells you how hot the meat gets. I really appreciate that you can set a goal temperature in thermometer mode and it'll howl at you when the desired temperature is met.Just a con or two or three...The timer and thermometer modes are mutually exclusive. Want to use it as a timer? Can't see the temperature. (and just the opposite: Want to see the temperature? Can't want to use it as a timer.)The preprogrammed goal temperatures are way too high. Now, there's lots of reasons that lots of thermometers do this. (1) These are rated for home use, and therefore can become inconsistent and inaccurate. Just in case it begins reading high, the goal temps are set high. (2) Most people are slovenly and don't understand the importance of proper food preparation. You tell someone "wait until it's 100 degrees Farenheit" and they'll pull it out of the oven at 95 degrees Celsius. Trust me on this. They get salmonella. (3) Though products like this lump all meat together based on which kind of animal it was cut from, sometimes the type of meat and how it was prepared changes the desired temperature. (Ground beef, lamb, and fish being chief examples). However, even with the reasons in mind this thing is bananas crazy way too high on the goal. Chicken, in all shapes, sizes, and color of feather, requires 165 F. This thing wants me to wait til 185. Whaaaaaat!? It's like in the old Looney Toons car"toons" where the bird would come out black and burnt to a crisp and smoking and no one ever wanted to eat any of it.The base of the needle bit is real thin and gets pretty slippery, making it kind of hard to pull out sometimes. A weightier handle might have been nice.Based the cost, I expect it to last a year or two, then I'll probably buy another one.

simple and *almost* perfect.. baking meats is so much simpler! i wish i had bought one of these sooner!
i use the ThermoPro quite often; i don't know how i got on without it for so long! however, i'm not sure if the unit i received was calibrated correctly because the temp is not the most accurate. i always check this one against my 2 lollipop thermometers, which are always within one degree of each other. the ThermoPro always reads 2-3 degrees higher, but consistently so. it doesn't bother me very much; i just set the target temp to be 5 degrees higher than recommended. i like my roasts to be more on the side of well-done anyway. also, it does this funny thing where as it is getting close to temp, the temperature reading will bob up and down, resulting in the beeper turning on for a couple beeps and then turning itself off. i kind of like this personally, because i am usually doing dishes or on my computer or something and so the first few beeps are like warning beeps that i better be ready soon but i don't have to rush over to the oven just yet.finally, big props to the seller i-Tronics. almost 4 months into using the ThermoPro, the original probe died on me. it would keep displaying LLL at room temp or around 45 degrees while holding the probe tightly in my bare hand. i emailed them about it and there is a one year warranty on the product, so they sent me a new probe free of charge! the probe i received was not the same as the one that came originally. the braided part feels sturdier though and it doesn't have the bend in the solid part. thanks again, i-Tronics!

Inexpensive and simple to use. Replaceable probe makes repair economical.
I purchased this thermometer to use with a Masterbuilt Electric Smoker I received for Christmas. I've used it three times now and have found it to be accurate (when compared to a second meat thermometer) and very convenient to use. The digits are large and I can read them from inside my home, saving me a trip out to the smoker. The unit has two modes which can be used simultaneously - the first is a simple countdown timer. I only toyed with that as cooking in a smoker is based on temperature and not time. The second mode lets you set a temperature, and when your meat reaches that temp, the ThermoPro beeps. The unit has a generous magnet on the rear which is perfect for attaching to my smoker. It also has a little kickstand that folds out.The rear of the unit has an on/off switch as well as a F/C switch in case you have a recipe that calls for Celsius or you happen to live outside the US.I'd like to talk a little about the probe, since this is the area most reviewers have complained about. It is made of stainless steel but does seem a bit fragile to me, even with a braided cord. I'm careful not to get any water in the crimped probe end when cleaning, and I'm also very careful not to crimp the braided cord when opening and closing my smoker. I hope with these precautions it will last a long time. Since the probe plugs into the thermometer with a standard 2.5mm jack, a replacement probe is available from Amazon for $9.99, although after three reasonably careful uses my probe is still going strong and only shows a little smoke residue.I have used the probe in my regular oven while finishing up a smoked entree that we needed to hurry along, and it performed brilliantly. The spec says the probe can withstand temps up to about 480F, but I wouldn't push it past about 400.This probe is perfect if you have an application either in your oven or in a smoker, where you've got to watch the temperature without having to continually open and shut the door.

Brilliant!!
I use this thermometer every time I cook meat now, I don’t know how I survived without one before. It really is simple to use, choose from the digital picture icon, chicken, fish, pork, beef (rare/medium/well) and it displays the temperature it should be, literally place the probe in the meat to check it….you can even leave it in and close oven door and it will beep when ready…but always remember to use an oven glove to remove probe if cooking like this. I bought my sister one as a gift and she raves about it too! In fact I have bought a few as Christmas presents this year…no more undercooked or indeed overcooked meat/fish. Brilliant product!

Buy this and have perfectly cooked meat
This thermometer is easy to use. You select your meat on the screen which brings up the safe temperature of the cooked meat. Then you stick the probe into a thick part of the meat put it in the oven and wait for the temperature to rise in the meat to the safe set temperature. At this point the thermometer bleeps and you then rest the meat out of the oven. Since I have used this item I have eaten perfectly cooked meat. The item can also be used as a timer.

but unfortunately like many cheap temp probes it cannot sustain accuracy at ...
Build-wise this seems a decent unit, but unfortunately like many cheap temp probes it cannot sustain accuracy at higher temps. It has an alledged upper limit of 250c. I used it to monitor boiling liquid for home brewing, so 100c continuous should be well within it's capabilities. It read accurately up until 40 minutes into a one hour boil, reading 99-100c. Then I noticed the temp was alledgedly 108c which doesn't happen with open boiling water! After cooling down, this thermometer now reads 3-5c over at room temperature! It will read correspondingly more as the temp goes up. So therefore is now useless for any kind of accurate measurement. It's very disappointing...... I think the temp ranges on these units is massively overstated, and not trustworthy for accurate food measurement.Avoid! Do not buy!

perfectly juicy chicken and perfect fish pie
We have used this thermometer to cook rare roast beef and rare lamb, perfectly juicy chicken and perfect fish pie. It's excellent. Throw away your cooking charts and start using one of these. Fool proof, efficient and actually saves you time in the long run (since the alarm sounds once the thermometer reaches the desired temperature). Simple enough even for an idiot to use. Place the thermo probe into the thickest part of the meat/dish, set the temperature (a few of the pre-programmed pre-sets can help you here), then, leaving the LCD readout OUTSIDE THE OVEN (and there's enough wire for the largest ovens for it to rest on the top of the hob), and place the meat/dish in the oven (with the probe still in the meat/dish). It beeps when its done. Simple.Only drawback is that the alarm isn't loud enough to be heard in the living room.As an update, an App linked to the thermometer on your home network would be an absolute killer (alo programmable from the App). Id buy that tomorrow. Any price.

Easy to use
From 4 to 1 star! Prompt delivery, no problems with the thermometer so far used 6 times. Easy to use, the only slight issue is with the preset temperatures e.g. rare, medium steak etc. Temperatures for me are too high not much of an issue as it is sooo easy to adjust the setting to one you require :)All in all am pleased and would recommend, will add another star when longevity is proven.Sadly for me the reliability of the unit was not there. When I used on several important occasions the unit failed with LLL and ---- in the display and however many times I switched off / turn on or disconnected / reconnected the probe didn't fix it contacted Thermopro and customer service was 5 Stars, I expected a new probe but instead they sent a new unit!! So far all is going well :)
