I tried Harry's shave butter and this one - hard to tell the difference however the VanDerHagen is less expensive and gives me a nice smooth shave - no razor drag or burn - I don't see me going back to a conventional shave cream any time soon

I purchased this shave butter to perform a comparison test against Dr. Carver's shave butter. The Van Der Hagen Shave Butter is $2.00 less expensive than a comparable size of Dr. Carver's Shave Butter that I can purchase on-line or from an on-line shave club. Van Der Hagen Shave Butter has a nicer smell was the first thing I noticed. The product applies just as easy but does not have the slippery feel to it on the facial skin. This product is very similar to body moisturizing lotions but slightly more viscous. After applying and while shaving I can say that while the Van Der Hagen gets the job done but that Dr. Carver's Shave Butter holds up better on the skin and is not as easily washed away. In closing, my face was just as smooth as with Dr. Carver's from hair removal perspective but the Dr. Carver's leaves the skin feeling softer. Is the $2.00 extra cost for Dr. Carver's worth the minimal advantage, you'll have to be the judge. I do recommend this product and will purchase again but I'll continue to use Dr. Carver's as my primary product.

The butter itself is great, but the smell is not so good, it doesn't smell bad, but just not clean.

Way better than normal shaving cream for shaving scalp. Leaves scalp feeling moisturized. No drying out.

I received this as a Christmas gift in my stocking. Almost thought of it as a novelty (at first). I'm not a little shaver any more, I am an older shaver. Skin is thinner and more sensitive. Shave cream often left me with a rash and/or itchy skin. I found this shaving butter to be just the ticket for me. Won't be going back to shave cream. You use a small amount. At first I probably used too much, thought it should be like shave cream. Quickly realized it wasn't the same. Now use a small amount with good results. No more itchy, irritated skin. You just rub in any that is left over into your skin. This helps immensely if you have sensitive skin. Good value for the money. Just bought some more. Wish I knew about this sooner for my dad who suffered enough that he stopped shaving, grew a beard.
