I am thrilled with this purchase!
I've always enjoyed foreign films and dramas. Unfortunately sometimes they only exist in their own region coding. I recently purchased a dvd set from Thailand and really wanted to watch it on my flat screen. This dvd player did the job with no problem. I plugged it into the outlet and hooked the back into an already existing HDMI cord and it played my dvd's right out of the box. The up-scaling is perfect (with HDMI cord) and the subtitles work flawlessly. Very light unit, small profile, fair price, nice clean design and works as advertised. It comes with a basic and functional remote also HDMI and analog video cords. There is also a “memory” feature you can toggle on and off if you want it to start playing from its last point. Which was useful to me when watching a tv series. I HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS UNIT!! Pro Tip: When I first hit play I was a little disappointed with the video quality. I used the remote to change settings which out of the box were set to 480 to 1080p. All of a sudden the dvd is CRYSTAL CLEAR and looks HD.

Good Bargain!
I’m very very pleased with this DVD player. The reason I bought it is because it said multi regional and I enjoy movies/shows from the BBC. It was extremely easy to set up (pugged in with the included cord, change the input on the television, and I’m literally watching a DVD on it now- started 10 mins ago taking it out of the box and setting up) I will say- it does not come with batteries for the remote so you need 2 AAA batteries and you will probably need an extension cord because the plug in cord is not very long. It also does come with a HDMI cord but I didn’t need it! I feel like I got a really good deal on a great player for a good price. If you watch a lot of multi regional dvds, this is for you. If not, you can buy a regular old DVD player from Walmart.

Easy set up not great remote
I wanted to use this player for some DVD's that are not Bluray, so didn't need anything fancy. I've just set it up (it was simple and I'm not tech savvy.) You'll need two AAA batteries for the remote. The buttons are very small on the remote and I'm a female with small hands. What interferes for me is my (not very long) fingernail tips tending to press a neighboring button. Also, I saw other reviews that mentioned the power button of the remote not activating the player correctly. I do have that same problem. Press it once for standby mode, a second time to turn the player on, but as soon as the player turns on, it shuts itself back off again. The player works fine so long as I use the power button on the main unit rather than on the remote. Last thing I don't like is the free 3 year warranty won't activate until you leave a product review. That's not super cool but is why I'm reviewing way sooner than I ever review products normally. I personally give way more merit to reviews that stand the test of time with further use of the product, so take my review for my first day experience value only.

Nice solid unit. Surprising for the price
Typical Chinese remote, okay, but not good. Excellent unit and very small. I didn't have much space for it and it fit like a glove. Yay for our side. I bought this because over the years I have accumulated a bunch of European titles due to Amazon's horrible buy screens. I never threw them away because I knew one day, I'd have enough to them to buy a player and than I accidentally bought a large set, so that day's today. International DVDs work flawless and it has a very sharp picture on my 61 inch 4k bigscreen. And my surround sound system sounds great as well. Unbelievable for the price! Highly recommended.

Closed Captions on older DVD's, like Foyle's War displayed!!!
I am very hard of hearing and depend on closed captions (CC)/subtitles to understand what is going on. With the change to High Definition TV, we lost the ability to display closed captions (CC). I have many older DVD's that have CC but with my HD TV, the CC's were not displayed, so I could no longer understand them. I have tried many solutions, such as playing them through an old laptop with analog connections to my HD TV, but this is cumbersome. Finally, I found the Majority Scholar DVD player. I was attracted to this DVD player because you could turn on CC with a button on the remote. It came with all the different cables I needed to attach to my TV. Plus, it could play DVD's from ALL regions around the World. This player hooked up easily, came with a printed manual, and included everything I needed to make the connection. You can also download the PDF manual if you wish. There is also excellent company support if you need it. This DVD player instantly played all my old DVD's with Captions or subtitles displayed. I do have two DVD player connected to my HD TV now. One for Blu-Ray discs and this one for all other DVD's. I do have some Blu-Ray discs that I wish to play again that can only be displayed on a Bu-Ray disc player. However, the Majority Scholar DVD player is smaller and lighter than my Blu-Ray player. So, it doesn't take up much space. A bonus for me was finding the British version of the series "All Passion Spent" which comes with English subtitles made for Region 2. The USA version of this series (Region 1) and does not have English subtitles or CC. Therefore, I needed a DVD player that could play Region 2 DVD's (BTW, many USA DVD players only play DVD's for Region 1). So, I ordered this DVD through Amazon and played it in my Majority Scholar DVD player and it displayed the English subtitles perfectly. I can also play the Foyle's War DVD series and read the closed captions on my HD This DVD player is quite simple to use. How wonderful!

Overall disappointing, even for the low price
I was taught to always start positive, so... * Like: - It's cheap and compact. - It's regio free. * Dislike: You get what you pay for, I guess. - Video: quality is below that I have in my current 10 yo DVD, as per User's manual, this unis is capable of producing maximum of 576i resolution, which is scaled up to all those "fancy" 720p, 1080p supported by HDMI output, and ttytt the video doesn't even feel like 576i, more like an old VHS quality. - Remote: it's like it was taken directly from 90's, nowhere near what you'd expect of modern media player, in fact back in 90's I had a JVC VHS recorder with better remote. And to add insult to the injury, the player responds horribly slow to the remote, there's about 1-2 second delay after you press a button that the player actually does what you ask for. - Setup menu: Good god, it looks like 90's Norton Commander, what's the resolution of it 240p? * Bottom line I got this as a replacement for my old HDMI-less DVD, I think I will stay with my old DVD and just give this ... remarkable piece of engineering... to someone else as a present.

This plays ALL DVDs!!
A few months back, I bought a dvd that was for Region UK, knowing I could play it on my Mac. I couldn't find it available for the US market, and where I could find it, it was over $100 for the disc. Enter Majority and their Scholars DVD player!!! For less than $30 I have a DVD player that plays DVDs from all over the world, which has openened a whole new market of affordable discs! This was delivered a couple days early, was all they said, pretty much plug-n-play, and tiny enough to slide under my TV! Perfect!!!

Great Little DVD Player
I don't normally take the time to write reviews, but this little player deserves a very good one. I needed to produce some PAL DVDs for users in Europe. While I could author a PAL DVD, I had no way to test it. I bought this DVD player and was very happy with its performance. It will play both NTSC DVDs and PAL DVDs and output them in either format. Normally it will output what the connected monitor wants, but there is an N/P button on the included Remote that allows you to cycle through NTSC, PAL and Auto settings. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that my Samsung Smart TV would display a PAL video signal (720 X 576) when I selected PAL as the DVD player output. The picture actually looked better in PAL using a PAL DVD disk as PAL uses 576 horizontal lines (at 50 scans per second) versus the 480 horizontal lines (at 60 scans per second) that NTSC uses. I verified that the TV was actually in PAL mode by using the TV remote control's Info button to display its resolution. I had also purchased a PAL DVD while in Russia and was finally able to play it here in the US.

Multi-Region DVD player that looks and works well
We had never heard of this brand Majority until I came here to look for an affordably priced DVD player that was multi-region. Found out the hard way after spending some wasted money that most of these big names like Sony, Philips manufacture DVD players for Region 3 DVDs only, even though this is not stated in the store listing. Anyway, we are very pleased with this DVD player. Have used it many times now, works fine each time without issues. Compact design, easy to use. Delivery was prompt (considering it's an international order). Affordable pricing and great value.
