Sunscreen?! Got sunburnt anyway!
As a melanoma survivor, I'm pretty diligent about my sunscreen. I purchased this "SPF 30+ Active Lifestyles" sunscreen after consulting the EWG website (it has a "2" rating). I didn't like the watery consistency, the oily/greasy feel, or the smell, but figured I could deal with all of them for bike rides because, really, who am I out to impress on the trail?Needless to say I got a light sunburn the first time I used it. I figured it was a fluke - maybe I sweat too much (but really didn't think so) or reapplied too lightly (also didn't think so - my skin had a white tinge and I had white lines in the creases of my arms), so I tried again. I came back today after another trail ride with more light burns everywhere my skin was exposed. So here I am, sun-conscious melanoma survivor, with red skin. Awesome; like this isn't going to make me paranoid about more skin cancer. Ugh.The Aubrey's going in the trash.

Highly recommended by some but...
Based on the Sunscreen Report - EWG's Skin Deep i decided to dump the brand name sunscreens i have and go with ones that are less harmful and toxic. So I purchased 3 sunscreens from Amazon. Burnout Ocean, Burnout SPF 30 for Kids and Aubrey Organics. The only one that is worth keeping is the Burnout SPF 30 for kids.Aubrey Organics was a bit watery.... as expected and very thin in terms of consistency, which means i had to use a lot and lot of it to get a "full" coverage. The things is once applied, you can't see if it's there or not. Meaning if you go for a swim or after a couple of hours, you can't tell if the sunscreen is still there or if you need to re-apply.That was OK with me, what turned me off was the smell. It smelled like old oil paint. I just couldn't stand it. If unscented means smells like cooking oil, i rather get the scented one.

Expiring date was in 2 weeks
I would give 5 stars for the product. It never made my daughter's face or body white, when we applied. It's a light sunscreen and protected well of my daughter's skin. She liked the tropical flower smell, too. We were satisfied the product. However, the product's expiring date was in 2 weeks after it arrived. It was on sale and 1/3 of the regular price.I couldn't see any reason for the discount from the website, so I purchased it, anyway. The company should have let consumers know about the reason why the product was so cheap. That is the reason I couldn't give 5 stars.

This is really good stuff. The smell and spreadability is greatly improved from a few years ago. My son has very sensitive skin and he has absolutely no reaction to this and it kept him well protected in the hot Caribbean sun this past week. Highly recommended.

1st experience w/ EWG recommended sunscreen gone bad
I threw out my old sunscreen that was purchased at a typical big box store because I did my research on the Environmental Working Group's site (which I love), but then was disappointed when my local "natural grocer" only had a few of the recommended/high ranking brands. I ended up w/ 2 bottles of this product and used it right away for a beach day. I put it on myself and my 6 year old daughter. It was thick, it has a weird smell that I can't place (possibly the zinc) and it was so tacky/sticky that my 6 year old complained so loudly that I was hurting her as I rubbed it on her. My arms looked like I was wearing a clay mask at first and it took a lot to rub in - gave myself an arm waxing while I was at it. Anyway, I'm returning the bottles to my grocer and will try something else for sure!!!

Needs moisturizer
The product is very dry and hard to apply to the skin. Skin turns white with application and application is very difficult .

Superior safe protection despite minor annoyances
I've been using this stuff for several years now. They say no sunscreen is completely waterproof, but this must be about as close as they come. As an avid snorkeler, I can say it lasts all day in the water (just don't forget the backs of your legs). Most sunscreen you have to slather on very generously to get full protection. This product works well with a moderate application. It takes a bit of rubbing in, but not like other zinc/titanium oxide-based sunscreens. It doesn't show on the skin so you don't look like a zombie. It feels a bit waxy on the skin, but that's fine as I know it's still there, even after hours in salt water. Washes off easily with soap in the shower. At first I noticed a slightly funky smell during application, but I guess I've gotten used to that and don't even think about it anymore. If you keep it around for a while it is prone to separate a bit and I'll get a little squirt of oily liquid on first squeeze. I've learned to avoid that by just squishing the tube around before I open it. Superior product, in spite of minor annoyances. My skin is quite sensitive to UV, so I'm willing to put up those for the great level of protection. And hey, I don't feel like I'm poisoning myself with assorted carcinogenics. EWG.org gives it a very good rating.
