Pro tools for the pro DIY'er
If you are thinking about Lithium Ion but don't know if it's worth it, go hold one at Home Depot or Lowe's. The weight of these things is unreal compared to the old NiCad batts. The thing about this drill is that it doesn't have much of a slow down before the battery dies. It goes full throttle until it has essentially nothing left. The batteries charge in 20mins or less and you can't run out a battery in that amount of time (unless you are mixing concrete with it). This set is the little brother to the blue drills. I have these and wouldn't want anything more. The driver is awesome. The chuck will resist the turning when you are putting in a drill, so it's easier to tighten down (no more two handed serious torquing, you can have one hand on the handle with the other turning the chuck). It has 2 speed settings for those that like to slam the screws in and those that need the additional torque of the slower moving bits. The impact driver is loud, but awesome for driving those longer screws. It's smaller and lighter than the main driver, but will sink screws faster and longer than the driver - just wear some ear plugs while you're doing it.The charger has a built-in fan that cools the unit and the battery while charging. When they say it's a quick charge, it's QUICK! I charge my batteries each time I use the drill just to keep the juices moving in them. The other nice thing is that it will play you a song when they are finished charging, so you know exactly when it's ready to go.If you are in the construction business, you will probably want the bigger set that has larger batteries (and now has brushless motors available, too). For the rest of us that dabble in construction, but need some seriously good quality tools to work with, this set of drills is for you. If you are going to use these drills 5-6 times per year, save your money and get the Ryobi from Home Depot. One last thing. The Dewalt, at the time I bought these, had issues with their batteries failing after a couple months of use. It was hit and miss, but I didn't want to take the chance. I spoke with several cabinet makers and also saw many Makita's on jobsites before I bought mine.

Fantastic Drill and Driver
I'm a professional furniture and cabinet maker and we have several sets of these drills and impact drivers in the shop. Quite simply, they're as good as it gets, without going to extremes like the ridiculously expensive Festool products (which are great, but just too much money). The combination of small size, light weight, comfortable shape, good power and torque, excellent chuck, and quick/smart battery charging all adds up to one of the best drills/drivers on the market, regardless of price.DO NOT let the comments about the "small" or "underpowered" 1.5 amp-hour batteries sway you. With a 15 minute charge time (and, yes, we've timed it and it will charge that quickly) and two batteries you would have to work very hard to find yourself without a working battery (I would guess that most people, professional or not, will NEVER find themselves with two drained batteries). I'm sure there are those professionals who are drilling or driving BIG/LONG stuff that will want the 3.0 amp-hour battery, but they are few and far between, and should probably be using a corded drill for some of the applications anyway. In our bigger-is-better world, some of the 18V drills got to ridiculous extremes of size and weight. If you're using one of those big yellow monsters (you know who you are) right now, do yourself a favor and try one of these Makitas. You'll never want to use anything else again. And if you're buying your first, or adding to your tools, look no further. I realize that the temptation to stay with your existing brand is strong (so you have more batteries that are interchangable), but take the plunge and don't look back -- you won't regret it.Not having used all of the other brands out there, I can't say that this is the best product, but I can tell you that at least two other professionals who have come into my shop and tried these drills/drivers have since switched from their brands to these Makita products.Happy Drilling!

More power, more speed, better chuck, better balance
After gulping down the absurd price of $70 for a replacement 12v battery for my old version Makita drill(s) at the local Orange Box everything but what you need store, this kit came on Amazon as a 'deal of the day' for close to $190.Since the whole kit (2 drills, 2 batteries and a charger) cost almost the same as buying two more replacement batteries for my old drills, I jumped on it. I had been hesitant to move from my old standard blue 12v drills. Seriously, is spending money on a new charger and batteries really worth moving to 18 volts? My 12v drills work just fine. No issues. Well, I'm sad I didn't do this a year ago.The new drills are way lighter, and shorter bit to back.the LED light is way more useable than I thought it would be. I will NOT buy a drill without this again. My old impact driver has it, but not my standard driver. The chuck on the regular drill is awesome, and much better than the old 'twist while holding' style. You twist to lock, then tighten. Hard to explain, but I didn't read the instructions and figured it out in about 15 seconds. It works like you expect it to. Just put in the bit and twist. It knows what you're trying to acomplish.Battery charges really fast as well. Way faster than the old system.Just spent all day screwing sheetmetal trim into roof facia with no arm fatiuge or hand soreness. Balance is awesome, and the extra power is great.I have not used the impact drill from the kit yet. I have nothing bad to say about the old style, so I'm hoping for a nice suprise. The case is a nice toss-in. Nothing fancy here, but a nice place to put both drills and the charger. Probably won't get much use, but it's nice to have.

Makita LCT200W 18-Volt Copact Lithium Ion Cordless Drill
I ordered this drill for my husband from Amazon. He had previously bought and tried a Dewalt Drill and a Milwaukee, but returned both to the store because they didn't suit his needs. He liked this Makita because the driver had a variable speed which was good for small jobs and the drill was light and easy to use. It charged up quickly and didn't overheat like the Milwaukee. The Makita was a good value for the price.
