This worked for my crazy Idea, I had a SATA to USB 3.0 cable that came with my Western Digital Dual Drive and a Old Blu Ray Ultra-slim Drive, After numerous enclosures I bought none of them met the speed requirements to reach the transfer rates for Blu-Ray discs to be read properly. My new 2 in 1 didn't have a place for a disc drive what so ever. So I purchased this as a last resort and plugged into the drive and plugged the SATA to USB 3.0 connector my 2 in 1 and low and behold it worked flawlessly, I'm now able to rip my movie and music collection and store it on my NAS. My only complaint is that the slimline sata connector could be a little tighter to prevent it from accidentally unplugging for people on the go. But otherwise it's a fantastic product.

I wanted this adapter to use with a Slimline Optical Drive in a desktop computer. The system is a small form factor desktop unit with a low wattage power supply (280W Max Output). The adapter allowed me to install a 12.7mm Slimline Blu-Ray Burner and a 2.5" 500 GB Hard Drive which both use less power than the original 5.25" DVD Drive and 3.5" 250 GB Hard Drive that came standard with the machine. With those changes the system is now capable of supporting a nVidia GeForce GT 620 1GB PCI-E Graphics (PEG) Adapter in place of the on-board Intel Graphics Chip and play some of the newer 3D games.To install these drives and increase your surplus power, you will also need to replace the existing 5.25" SATA ODD with a 5.25" Metal Tray for 2.5", 3.5" HDD/Slim DVD*, a Slimline SATA ODD with the adapter shown here, and a 2.5" SATA HDD/SDD.*Other Tray models may also support an additional Slimline ODD or 2.5" or 3.5" HDD/SSD and some are designed specifically for slot loading drives. Beware that the bezel face of your computer system may not allow the proper clearance for certain 5.25" tray designs along with the various load mechanisms of Slimline Optical Disk Drives.NOTE: SATA 2.5" HDD/SSD do not require a SATA adapter for use in SATA compatible desktops. 1.8" SDD use a MicroSATA connector and will require an appropriate adapter for use.With most nVidia GeForce GT/GTX Graphics Cards it is recommend to have a PSU with a Max Output of 400W or at least 300W assuming there are certain other power consuming devices included in the typical base system configuration (i.e. CD-ROM or other Optical Drive, 3.5" SATA/PATA Hard Disk Drive, 1.5V DDR RAM, an Intel or AMD 64-bit Processor(s), an internal Network/WiFi Adapter, and a Sound Board). By using the smaller laptop style drives, the total power consumption can be reduced up to 25-40% (less than 200W); however, there is a catch. Laptop style drives generally have slightly slower access/read speeds and can be more expensive than the desktop style drives. If an AMD Radeon Graphics Adapter is preferred, the recommended Max Output is usually lower than the requirements of comparable nVidia cards.

does exactly what it is supposed to, but it sort of wabbly when its plugged into the drive and has a SATA data and power cable plugged in. I secured my cables on a point parallel to the slim drive to be sure they don't yank out the adapter or break it off inside the drive.

Got this because it was cheaply available with Prime to quickly solve a problem. But it presented problems of its own. The adapter is much wider than the two cables that feed into it. For my Sony slimline drive, the connectors are right up against the edge of the drive, which meant that for my drive cage in the small case I used it in the adapter is too wide for fitting flush into the connector. I had to bend the cage and angle the adapter a bit which caused the plastic around the SATA connector to break off inside the SATA cable, exposing the bare leads on the adapter. The drive connection still works and I have fixed the cables with ties and electrical tape to ease the strain on the too-big connector. I suppose if my case did not have the drive cage this would not be a problem. Still, I'm disappointed that the plastic broke so easily. Next time I'll spend the extra couple of dollars and order the whole cable adapter style instead.

This plug enabled me to hook up an ocz 120gb ssd under a slim optical drive, both mounted into the same 5 1/4" bracket and ultimately mounted into the single 5 1/4" slot in the top of an hp proliant nl40 microserver. using eSATA transition cable, i was able to plug in the ssd by running the cable from the esata connection in the back of the server, in through the plates (had to bend them of course) and up to the drive. the connection sits firmly enough and i haven't had any difficulties with it coming unhooked.

This might work for some, but was a disappointment for me.Everything plugged in just fine, but then I tried to disconnect my sata cable from it so I could adjust thelayout of the cable path and it broke off the plastic tab leaving the metal pins sticking out. In the trash it went.I didn't force it..I didn't bend it. I just tried to unplug it. I ended up buying SLSATACDADAP slimline adapter(also by StarTech) here on amazon and was much happier! That one does require a floppy power cable though (your power supply has at least two) while this one here doesn't.For those of you that need to use this type, be aware that it is brittle. It also sticks out from the back of your drive a little bit, so make sure have a good 2 inches of clearance.

This thing worked for ~3 months until i moved it one day. Apparently they did not design this to withstand the heat coming off a standard SFF case and power supply. It snaped in half at the connectors and was no longer usable. Mind you I run my SFF PC at ~35°C, so this definately wasn't an issue of poor use. Do yourseld a favor and buy the other unit listed here that is made with cables and a single connector.

I'm using it to connect and old, internal (from a MacBook laptop) optical drive (Apple SuperDrive) through a USB-C/Thunderbolt SATA adapter, to an iMAc. Works well, powers through the SATA adapter + this this adapter, although the whole contraption is bendy and ugly. I can now read the DVD disc with the Income tax S/W!Fast shipping and the build seems solid.

Fa bene il suo dovere, in pratica mi serve per collegare un caddy per pc portatile con un hard disk dentro e così lo uso come esterno dato che sia il pc portatile che il pc fisso supportano il collegamento a caldo.Lo consiglio!

Belle qualité , le plastique est lourd et semble robuste . Les connecteurs sont bien alignés et les prises bien droites . Les produits de ce type sont souvent de mauvaise qualité mais la c'est tout le contraire , parfait .Je n'hésiterai pas à choisir cette marque .
