Good deal and quite versatile.
This is an amazing control service whether working live or in the studio. Far more functionality that I wouldn't have expected. It is a great piece at the price. I would recommend for anyone who is transporting the control service to purchase a road case. Although it is nicely built, the case is in the Cecily.

Presonus DAW frustration.
This review deals with cs18ai functioning as control surfaces to Studio One 3/4 version. This mixer has the same DAW abilities as the "DAW" function in series III and above mixers. Main points for cs18ai and series III mixers.I. Frustrating to connect to Studio One (3 version an 4) .The set I am using: From cs18ai sent Ethernet cable to wireless router. Studio one will be visible from mixers UCnet. This connection takes care off the "control part".USB cable from mixer to computer. This takes care off sound in and out.II. DAW does not properly controls fat channel and other plugins either , so mouse is in need.Bottom line, DAW mode in these mixers are in infancy period. But, a used cs18ai less than 3-400 hundred is ok if you want to do 50% of what a Proper DAW function should be.Not sure entirely, but the Faderport 16 must be limited as well, since Series III is. I wouldn't trust to buy those.Good luck

Excellent product marred by poor documentation and outdated touchscreen tech
Hi all,I purchased the CS18AI earlier this week to use as a DAW controller for Studio One.FIRMWARE UPDATENo problems here. I followed the instructions on the website after registering my device and updated the CS18AI’s firmware with ease.DOCUMENTATIONHorrible. The CS18AI’s documentation is godawful if you want to use it to control Studio One. I had to search the Presonus’ knowledge base and watch YouTube videos (of which there are very few) to learn how to use the device with my DAW. I spent around $1850 (after tax) on this thing, and I expect more informational resources for my money.NETWORK SETUPThis was painful. I didn’t have an Ethernet cable long enough to reach my router, and I was feeling too lazy to run to Best Buy, so I decided to connect over Wifi. Unfortunately, the CS18AI didn’t like my router’s configuration at all. I had my router configured to not broadcast SSID, and I also had it configured for MAC-filtering based security. I had to COMPLETELY change my router’s Wifi configuration in order for the CS18AI to connect to it. Once I was connected to my router over Wifi, the mixer could “see” Studio One, but I was completely unable to control the DAW.At this point, I decided to buy a long Ethernet cable. Same problem; the CS18AI could “see” Studio One, but couldn’t control it. Then, I decided to deactivate Windows Firewall. Bingo…. Everything started working – I could control Studio One now. I then tried switching back to Wifi, which also now worked, thanks to the newly disabled firewall. Adding custom firewall rules for Studio One allowed me to safely re-enable the firewall.USABILITY AS A STUDIO ONE DAW CONTROLLERSo far I’m blissing out over the CS18AI. I’ve only spent a total of 4 hours puttering with it, but I can already tell it’s going to dramatically improve my workflow. In particular, I enjoy using it with a Fat Channel insert added to each of my mixer channels. The pots and buttons on the upper half of the mixer easily map to 3rd party VSTs. I strongly believe that firmware updates will make this device much more usable. Also worth noting – the mixer’s touchscreen is resistive (vs capacitive), meaning you have to apply pressure to the screen in order for it to register a tap. This is the one aspect of the CS18AI that truly bums me out. Capacitive touchscreens are a dead technology, and the inclusion of one on the CS18AI significantly cheapens the product.FINAL ASSESSMENTFrom a documentation and network setup perspective, the CS18AI gets poor marks. I’m a technology director by trade, and my experience with networking configurations, routers and firewalls helped me troubleshoot my way through the mixer’s network setup. I feel very sorry for anyone who has trouble getting this device configured without an experienced techie to help. More robust documentation from Presonus (including tips and tricks for dealing with firewall issues) would go a long way!Now that I’m past the setup, I’m a fan of this device as a DAW controller. If Presonus invests in workflow improvements through the development of smart firmware updates, the CS18AI Studio One experience will only improve.I wholeheartedly recommend this device to anyone looking for a dedicated control surface for Studio One – as long as you have the technical experience or resources necessary to get it up and running on your network.

Only connects via Ethernet, and even that doesn't seem to work.
While all other control surfaces have USB connection options, this one will only connect through a network. The wireless dongle does not seem to work at all. After disabling all firewalls, Ethernet via wired connection will show an IP address, but will never show Studio One 3 Professional software in the list, meaning the control surface will not connect to the DAW at all. Good luck troubleshooting your network connection to get this thing to work. The designers have made a huge mistake. Why on earth would they design a control surface without the ability to connect via USB? USB is an established, robust and easy to troubleshoot connection. USB 2.0 or 3.0 could easily handle the fader instructions and even multiple streams of audio in and out. Instead, they went with Ethernet with an option for AVB networking. Don't audio engineers have enough to worry about without also having to become the in-house networking guru every time they want to turn on a mixer? Presonus completely missed the mark on this one. They made a cool control surface and then completely cut its jugular with a wholly unreliable connection method.Would you connect your musical instruments through an Ethernet network and expect them to function reliably? Why would you connect your mixer or control surface with such an unreliable connection? They could have made network connection just one option, but instead they made it the only option. Their poor design decisions have cost me a ton of time and energy and now I have to return this over-sized networking paperweight without ever getting it to connect to anything even a single time. Since they've wasted so much of my time, I thought I'd waste a few more minutes and share my experience with prospective customers. If you decide to go for it, be sure to bring a networking engineer with you!

I just received the Presonus StudioLive Cs18ai and an RM32 to use for live sound use and in the studio. Right out of the box I was happy . To have a control surface with the same look as a StudioLive mixer, in which we have a few, aided in a quick start . The connection to the RM was effortless and recording to capture was perfect.Having the CS18ai allows us to utilize the RM32 to its fullest and it seems to be the only way to go .
