Decent workout, PITA to assemble, still using it months later!
This arrived today (as expected).Assembly was NOT fun.I got on it for a 30 minute workout for the first time.I DO feel like I got a pretty good workout. Now, I'm a runner, and was running 40 miles/week until a couple of weeks ago when I had a seizure and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. They don't want me out running and have a seizure 5 miles from home in the woods (understandable), but I'm not going to give up keeping in shape, so, this seems like it will help. I'm 5'7" and 140 lbs, wear a size 8 shoe. I would say someone with a foot much larger (say size 11 or bigger) would find the pedals small. Also someone considerably taller would find this a bit small.Resistance is good. The machine rocks a little bit side to side while I was working on it..I don't understand the data from the display thingy. It says that in 30min08sec I traveled 5.5 miles. This would mean moving at 5:32 min/mile, when my average training pace is about 08:30 min/mile. I haven't run a 5:30 mile since college days, and I sure don't feel like I was moving that fast today. It would be more normal for me to run about 3.5 to 4 miles in that time frame at the effort level I felt I was working. Also it says I burned only 109.4 calories, whereas, at 140 lbs, in 5.5 miles I would burn 583 calories. Even at the 3.5 to 4 miles I would normally run in 30 minutes, I would burn 380 to 420 calories. So the computer data makes no sense to me at all.Still, this will give me a means to keep in shape while I go through radiation therapy, in the safety of my home (and with all the snow and sub-0 temps, that's good).--- EDIT ---I've had this now for 4 months, and while the weather is now good for running outdoors, and the radiation is done, so docs have released me to run again, but, I still use it occasionally for cross-training and on days with inclement weather.I'm making more sense of the data. In an average workout, I exercise for 30 minutes, complete c. 6 miles, and burn c. 1200 calories.I have to say that I am quite pleased with it.---------- UPDATE ----------October, and still using this machine when weather is poor for outdoor activities, or time limits my workouts, etc.I expect I'll spend a lot of time with it over the coming winter. At this point, I've spent over 15 hours on it, completed over 500 miles, and burnt over 90k calories (according to the machine's computer).Machine stands up to a beating, gives me a good workout.I feel like this was a very worthwhile investment.

So much better than expected!
After reading the positive and negative reviews for this elliptical I was thoroughly confused but somehow decided to give it a shot anyways. I am so glad I did! So far the main negative comments I was worried about are a non issue for me. And the price was great compared to what I was paying for my gym membership so I really can't complain too much. Some things I like the most:1) It is super compact. I checked footprint dimensions of all machines in this price range and this was the smallest. It is amazing how little space it takes up!2) it is so quiet! It does make a noise, but it is so quiet that I don't even need to turn up the tv when I am using it.3) I like the circular motion of the elliptical. I have tried ellipticals (at different gyms) that either skew towards a more climbing up and down motion or a more back and forth motion. I find the smooth circular motion feels the most natural and comfortable and that is the motto that this elliptical has. Some common negative comments that have proved to be a non-issue:1) There were a lot of people complaining about the incline of the pedals. I was worried about this for no reason. Yes it is true the pedal inlines when in the lifting part of the cycle. However, this is a completely natural motion and does not bother me at all! Think of when you lift your feet to walk, doesn't your ankle lift up first with your toes inclined to the floor? The people who are complaining about their feet sliding to the front so their toes get squished must not be wearing proper footwear (i.e.: running shoes with rubber soles to prevent slippage on pedal).2) clanking noises: After assembling the elliptical and testing it out I heard a clanking noise. I figured out where the noise was coming from and realized that I should have made a particular bolt tighter bc a loose part was wobbling and hitting its neighbor. So I tightened the bolt, and the noise stopped. I am hoping future clanking issues can be resolved in the same way.3) lubrication controversy's: Some reviewers were debating what grease is appropriate to lubricate the moving parts. My elliptical came with dabs of grease (I don't know what kind), in the appropriate locations. So far these dabs have been adequate and I have not had to add any additional lubricant.4) difficulty with assembly: parts are clearly labelled and incased in plastic so you can't lose them and/or you would know if something was missing. It's just as easy as putting together Ikea furniture. I assembled it all by myself (even though they recommend 2 people to assemble) and I am somewhat mechanically inclined female with an aversion to lifting heavy objects. Some cons that may be an issue for some people:1) handle bars are really short! Handlebar height is adjustable by 3 screw hole settings. I put mine at the tallest setting and it is perfect for me. I am 5'-2". I would imagine the handle bars would seem ridiculously short for someone who is 6'-0". Probably, the handlebars would start getting weird by around 5'-8"2) the instructions literally say that the bolts on the pedals must be tightened at least every 30 days. Failure to do so could result in injury or damage to the unit, and they are not liable if this occurs... This will prob annoy me in the future. But right now I am just thinking about how this elliptical was cheaper that 2 months of my gym membership. So I am willing to see how it goes.3)The stride is a little small and handlebars are short compared to a typical gym machine. This means that if you are really in shape/ work out a lot you may find this elliptical just doesn't give you a challenging enough work out. You will probably be disappointed by this elliptical. and I hope to be like you one day. But for now, I am happy with my purchase :)

You get what you pay for - in this case, a whole lot of problems.
Since taking this apart to return is extremely difficult especially to rebox, I've got a lot to say about this. The only thing that's marginally good about this is it's lightweight. But that's also a negative as it has a tendency to slide unless it's place on a mat. But let's start with the design. If you're not good at analyzing diagrams, don't think about this. There's no video guide for assembly and it's very complicated. There's about five dozens parts and piece that need to be assembled and disassembled with the enclosed tools. It took me nearly three hours to put it together. Then there's the performance. Other buyers have talked about the steep decline in the pedals which is absolutely true. This is a problem as this isn't a natural stride motion. This machine requires the upper body to be more upright which can put a strain on your lower back. Even if this is leveled by putting books under the front, it increases the previously mentioned sliding problem. The position of the poles is also poor. They swing far more outside the body than needed and also too far back which can strain the shoulder and elbows. The digital display is tiny and angled. Unless there's direct light on it, it's difficult to read. The tension knob works okay but not easy to adjust in the middle of the workout since it involves reaching down to it. After using it initially, a ticking noise seems to come from the left side of the machine and I can't find the cause. I also discovered a thin washer that apparently fell off but couldn't find from where even using the aforementioned diagram. So be forewarned, you get what you pay for, and for this machine, I'm not sure you even get that.

Good cheap sweat
Not fun to assemble, instructions were useless, but for the cost it's a good workout. The machine is a little flimsy, it rocks back and forth when I'm on it. I suspect that it will need to be tightened frequently. I'm hoping that it will tide me over until it's safe to go back to the gym. It's a challenging workout and I am just glad to be getting exercise again. For $300ish bucks it's so worth it.
