16 qt so close a cupboard fit. please, top off and the locks down or off, what is the dimension of the top ? 18.0 or 18.5 or ?

Not sure but mine didn’t last long enough to measure ! Two was busted when it arrived and just to big to bother with trying to mail back .

Is the lid perfectly clear/transparent or is it like frosted/translucent?

Both the lid and the body are translucent. However, you can see the contents.

Are these safe for photo storage?

I bought these when we moved—used them to pack away many old photos of various sizes and shapes. I don’t know if they are “officially” safe for photo storage, but that’s what I’m using them for. I wanted something that would keep moisture out and so far they have worked beautifully. My only complaint is that they are slightly smaller on the bottom than on the top, but that allows them to be safely stacked. I had to put slightly smaller pictures on the bottom and the larger sizes on the top.
