Works like a champ!
Update: I installed this cap 7 1/2 years ago. It has been removed every year for the chimney to be swept. A couple of years ago I had to take it down and wire brush inside and out to remove creosote deposits. I'd waited too long to do this and it had been diminishing the draft. Anyway, the cap still looks and works great. It has endured 55mph wind gusts with no problem. Assuming they still make them the way they did in 2013, it's a great product! My chimney is about 40 yr old and has an oddball tile size @ 8 1/2 x 18. Looked everywhere for that size cap with no luck. Found this adjustable cap and figured it should work........but was expecting to have to modify it in some way. Nope! Worked like a charm right out of the box! The adjustment feature is simple and foolproof with NO MODIFICATION REQUIRED. The entire cap assembly sits directly on top of the chimney tile. The 4 installation clamps fit in slots in the cap assembly and are adjusted in or out as necessary to fit the tile. Each clamp is attached to the tile by a single pointed screw that kind of "digs into" the tile. That's all that's required! The cap mounting is quite secure. I'd expect it will be there after anything short of a tornado. Also, the cap may be easily removed. Loosen the 4 clamp screws and the entire cap will lift off for chimney cleaning. I do have one minor gripe. HY-C offers many cap sizes made from stainless steel, but apparently not this one. Sure would have liked to have it in stainless.

Great product
This product was well made and very easy to install. I had an oval chimney that wasn't a standard size and shape. This cap fit perfect and was a breeze to install. It had a very well designed anchoring system that was very secure.

Flue Caps
I just installed three of these. So I am not sure how they will perform in the long term. Each looks fairly well constructed. It's also adjustable over the size range that it indicates (8x8 to 13x13). It can also fit a rectangular opening and may even work for circular openings of about 12 to 13 inches in diameter. Only a little bit of assembly was needed (see below), before installation. It's made of a solid metalic cap which is welded to a net like material below. The net actually folded under one more time so not create a gap if installing it over a smaller flue (like the 8 inch size). The holes on the net are somewhat on the large side easily letting in some bugs (and potentially letting out sparks). Then there are four L shaped pieces of metal welded to the net material. These have a grooved space along their length for insersion of the clamps. The only assembly requires installing one clamp each into these grooves, and then you rotate the clamp so they don't fall out. The clamps are held to the groove with a T shaped piece of metal (all from a single construction piece of the clamp). The design inherently produces a bit of wobble between the t-piece shaped part of the clamps and the rest of the structure. The clamps are basically a folded piece of metal that has a serated edge on one end, and a place for a screw (provided) on the other end, with the T-piece sticking off top. After the clamps are placed and positioned on the assembly, you attach the whole thing to your flue using the crews. That process is fairly simple, although I kept hoping the clamps or the screws would not fall off the roof (which would have complicated my life quite a bit). You slide the whole thing (i.e. all four clamps at once) on the flue. You have to position and adjust the clamps to the right flue size as you do this. The clamps are not springy, and given that they attach to the rest of the cap with the T-piece of metal, they tend to tilt up and down a bit as the screws are tightened. It's also a little hard to know how much to tighten the screws. The more I tightened, the more the clamp tilted, and it looked less stable. On the other hand, the screws left an indentation on the flue, which I think means they are solidly attached. Yanking on them, I could not appreciate any significant give. In retrospect, I should have considered using some spacers (like a stack of washers). Another option would be to use some sort of cement or glue to hold the cap more tightly against the chimeny, but I am afraid then the chimney can no longer be cleaned as easily. Two more issues came up. I have four flue's on my chimeny. Fortunately the flue heights are a litte offset. Nevertheless, there is a pottential for the top of the caps bumping into one another and making installation difficult. Also, the screw on the back end of the chimney, away from the house, was hard to access to tighten properly. Winged nuts would have made this a bit easier. In summary:Pros:1. Inexpensinve.2. Relatively Easy Installation.3. Good for keeping rain and big bugs out.cons:1. Concerned about performance in high wind. These are, incidentally, not high wind models/designs. I already expect a bit of rattling noise. I just hope they don't come flying off and causing a lot of damage. I don't expect that in our area, but....2. Galvanize steel has potential for some rust.3. Not good for keeping small bugs out.4. If you have multiple flues on the chimney compare the cost/design of several of these to a single multi cap one.

Wow! What a Chimney Cap!
I'm a tad behind re. this item. Installed it during the summer and just a couple days ago, built a fire, which I have doing the last several days. The warmth angle depends on how high you set your thermostat. We were warm. This cap should keep the rain/snow out of the chimney when there is no fire present. It can also keep pests at bay, like sqirrels and birds. Good deal. I'm happy.

Very easy to install
Although I have not experienced birds flying into my chimney and then dying; my neighbor did. I think this is a good idea. This one fit just right for my 12" x 16" chimney; and it only took a few minutes to install.

A little flimsy
Ok design but the wire mesh isn't tack welded on the bottom so only the 4 single tabs support the whole cap. Makes it flimsy and I doubt it withstand much wind but we'll see. The mesh bent just lifting it up by grabbing it and it only weighs a couple pounds.

Rugged Design & Sturdy Finish!
Good quality chimney cover. Rugged and has a sturdy finish to protect against the harsh weather of the Northeast. Got sick of cleaning out the flu and removing all the leaves every year. This cover helps keep out the rain and snow. Installed easily with some minor adjustments. Overall very impressed with the construction of this product. I would recommend it to everyone.

easily adjusts to the flue and looks like it belongs ...
After 4 years of covering our chimney with a middle eastern style tarp, we decided it was time for a change. It was mandatory if we were ever going to have another fire. After installing last weekend we began receiving thank you letters from our neighbors, except for the meth makers next door. They are still confused.Bottom line is this fits, easily adjusts to the flue and looks like it belongs in the hood. Yes, I'd recommend it to a friend.

Nice clean solid fit!
Yay, now we can have a fire again... and it will keep those dang squirrels out!! This Chimney Cap looks great compared to our old crumbling one. It clamped right on the the existing flue with out too much difficulty, i just had to make sure the flue ridge was clean and it essentially bolted right on. The instructions were very helpful as well, as there was little a bit of a trick to the clamping system. Would get again if our other chimney needs a replacement.

adjustable fit
adjusts to size easily, sturdy built but clamps are crap. I had nuts welded on so I could use bolts with locktight,, won't blow off now?
