Holds securely to aluminum banisters
I bought these because I wanted planter brackets that were built to last, not damage the railing, and allow for the planters to be mounted on the outside of the deck (to not take up deck space). I couldn’t be happier with them. I used left over composite decking to make the planter boxes and they are quite heavy - but these brackets are rock solid!

Easy to install, works well
We got this after an over railing hook didn’t work out for us. This was surprisingly easy to assemble and install and I’m pleased with how streamlined and inconspicuous it looks. Will look into other products from the manufacturer because I’d like to have more color around my deck.

These are great
I ordered 2 of these to put on the railing going down the steps. They were so easy yo install and I haven't had any problems.

Planter mounting solution for composite deck
I received and installed the HoldItMate 32" bird feeder arm and loved it, so I ordered this Universal Box Bracket Set and Mounting Rail to put up a 24" planter on my composite deck. My deck railing is a rounded aluminum and the spindles are 7/16" wide, so putting up hooks that mount over the railings isn't feasible. I needed something that would work with the spindles. This works very well. The mounting instructions are very simple to follow, but I have 5 things to add, based on my experience putting up 3 of these systems:1) Before you stand over the railings, insert the screws and tighten them to just a bit wider than your spindles.2) Insert the black plastic plug (it isn't mentioned in the instructions, but it comes with all the kits) into the large hole. This keeps the carriage bolt from sliding out that hole while you're trying to position the long rail and the mount.3) Position the rail where you want it - inside or outside of your deck and turn the mount 90 degrees (it will be swinging freely) so that it passes between the 2 spindles you want to use.4) Swing the mount back and use that Allen wrench to lightly tighten the mount to the rail. Repeat for the other end of the rail.5) Adjust where you want the rail - up or down - and use a level to make sure that the rail is level. You'll be putting brackets on that rail and you want it level! You can use the level on the mounts, but that's just aesthetics. Now go ahead and tighten firmly!I positioned the railing so that my planter box is just underneath the lip of the deck railing. Then I pulled the brackets to hug the bottom of the planter tightly and tightened the thumbscrews. This provides a bit more support for the high wind gusts we get around here. It's not too tight - I can still lift off the planter box to put it under cover when severe storms are predicted.I found that the brackets don't snap on to the rail as they did for my 32" feeder pole - they tend to slide on the rail rather more than I would like. The weight of the planter box does keep them from sliding side-to-side.

Works well but kinda costs a lot.
The works exactly as advertised. It is engineered and made well from nicely powder-coated steel, though some of the hardware (screws, etc.) are galvanized/nickel-plated. Since this type of thing is likely to be used outside 99% of the time, maybe stainless hardware would be better than the galvanized stuff. Anyhow, I installed this system on the steel balusters of a Trex-type deck. Installation was simple and took just a few minutes. I strongly recommend reading the simple and clear instructions before executing the job to facilitate the process. Mounted, the bracket is unobtrusive and basically invisible once a planter is in place. I put a 30" plastic planter on the bracket, and the adjustable clamps hold it very firmly in place. The system has held up to winds approaching 60 mph during thunderstorms, and the clamps haven't required readjustment or re-tightening. My only gripe is the cost. These things are relatively expensive, given the quantity of material involved. But, to be honest, it works damn well, and in my case, the dimensions of the Trex top rail defied the use of any rail-mounted planter- I tried several different designs, and they all got blown off the rail during storms. The 12'+ drop didn't do any favors for the plants! If I had purchased the Hold-It-Mate 20" Planter Box Bracket Set and Mounting Rail in the first place, I'd probably have saved a lot of money, frustration, and inconvenience. Recommended!

sturdy and easy to adjust but beware of inexact assembly instructions
The planter bracket set is made of powder-coated metal. All parts are solid. The bolts are thick. It looks like it will last for a long time. The assembly instructions are not exact. I think the first sentence in step 1 of the assembly instructions should be:"Insert sleeve nuts into two rail Bs" (and not rail A). There is only one rail A, so the first sentence must be wrong. If you insert the plastic plug into rail A in step 1, you will not be able to insert the round bolt into the key hole in step 2. You should insert the plastic plugs into the key hole of rail A only after you have connected rail A and the two rail B together by sliding the round bolts into the key holes. The plastic plugs are safety devices. They prevent sliding the round bolts too much until they reach the keyhole of the respective slots and then becoming loose.Note that the round bolts may seem too short. You may have to turn the sleeve nuts only one or two full turns to slide the two rail Bs over your deck spindles. After the rails are positioned correctly, you will be able to tighten the sleeve nuts quite a bit.
