This Grandma is very pleased with the Gazelle Supreme
I've had the Gazelle Supreme for a little over a month. I am a 50-something grandmother. Because I work from home, I wanted a piece of equipment that would allow me to take frequent breaks throughout the day to get in a quick cardio workout. I use this machine 2-3 times per day for 10-15 minutes per session for 4-5 days per week. It is getting me up and moving whether or not I have the time to get to the gym. This is what I love about it. I also have to admit that it's really fun. You get the sensation of running very fast even though you're not -- and when you haven't been able to actually run in many years, it's a really great feeling. The Gazelle takes up little floor space, and it can be moved by tipping it forward and pushing it. It is surprisingly heavy, but that's a good thing -- it means the equipment is sturdy and substantial. You will want an extra set of hands to lift this out of the box and assemble it -- and preferably someone handy with tools and good at reading instructions. I have used both a treadmill and an elliptical for many years. With advancing age, I have begun to lose muscle mass and have had increased joint pain which has caused me to search for ways to get in some cardio exercise that is more gentle to my body. My first pick would be a treadmill, but the expense of a good quality treadmill was out of my budget. The Gazelle was in my price range, and it reminded me somewhat of an elliptical machine because of the gliding motion. However, it's nothing like an elliptical -- an elliptical is still on my wish list -- but the Gazelle is fun, provides me with a quick and gentle cardio boost and I have not grown bored with it whatsoever. As a matter of fact, I look forward to each session. I bought the version with the pistons for added resistance. The pistons do what they are intended to do -- they do provide extra resistance, and you can definitely feel it. You can easily detach the pistons when you do not want to use them. I recommend detaching the pistons for the first week -- or until you are ready -- because the resistance provided by the pistons was a little hard on the knees and hips during my first week of using it. This would not be a problem for the average person who is in good physical condition, but it is something that people with joint pain in the knees and hips should know. I now use the pistons every other day for about 5 minutes to help tone my legs. I won't necessarily say the Gazelle provides a "whole body" workout because my lower back and upper abs/chest still need supplemental exercise apart from the Gazelle. But, it is helping my thighs, calves, buttocks, lower abs and biceps -- I can see and feel a difference. Most importantly, it is giving me a good, easy cardio workout that is totally do-able. I do get enough of a workout to actually sweat after 5 minutes, and I am very pleased with the purchase.

Surprisingly it is really useful
Itโs the model that comes with a set-resistance piston. (Not the adjustable pistons you can order, although I plan to order those probably.) I really like it a lot itโs great especially for the price, except it can make me sort of quasi/slightly seasick; however I donโt think itโs the equipment, itโs me as I am prone to motion sickness. It doesnโt get in the way, if I use it for HIIT workouts lasting 20 or 25 minutes, and keep my vision focused on watcing the pedals and handles. I canโt do long and slow- I would get nauseated; so itโs OK for the slow part of HIIT, but I just get off of it and walk around the room to do a cool down. I doubt most people would have a problem with that though. (I read hundreds of reviews of gazelle gliders before buying it and the inly similar thing I saw was one woman who eventually developed vertigo a few minths into using it, which resolved when she stopped using it.) For reference, Iโm a 55-year-old normal weight woman active and have worked out with weights yoga aerobic actinvities and been in pretty good shape most of my life but recently laid off working out regularly for over three years. That being said I have resumed doing some things and I am still in some shape for example, just for a reference, I hike with significant elevation gains, is in the foothills around Denver, and an 8 mile+ hike takes me about 3 to 3 1/2 hours round-trip to complete (so including uphill and downhill). Might be considered pretty good in a lot of places, but not here in the Denver/Boulder Front Range area:) Here, some people are trail running past me! Or riding up on a unicycle! I purchased it despite qualms anout it being inexpensive potentially useless and all the cheesy commercials, because I wasnโt sure I would really use equipment in my basement (which was the only place I had to put it). I had been looking at a nice TRUE Elliptical but I didnโt want to spend all that money and have delivery men put move such a heavy difficult to relocate treadmill down in basement laundry room if I might not use it. Thos glider with pistons is good enough that I wonโt buy the treadmill, since I only use itbto supplement other activities. I can definitely work up a sweat pushing myself on intervals quite easily. If ot wasnโt for the queasy thing Iโd be using it all the time. I have never tried it detaching the pistons, which is an option (they offer a pretty good amount of resistance actually). My guess would be without the pistons it would take a lot of mental concentration to make myself go continously fast enough to really get my heart rate up, similar to speed walking. If it eventually gets too easy I will order the adjustable pistons or just add wrapping a bungee cord around it like I have read about other people doing on the glider that comes with no pistons. If it was something I could use more regularly I would order those pistons now. It would be worth 90 or $100 to have them to be able to go through different ranges of resistance. For me this one is currently significant amount of resistance with the pistons, and I think would be way too light without them.

Nice exercise machine ... but beware of inside measurements
I purchased the Gazelle supreme after using a similar machine that is part of and outdoors park exercise center and loved it since it was the only machine that did not aggravate my severe arthritis (hips, knees and feet) that have caused me to gain so much weight...agh Actual review: I just received and set up the gazelle supreme and its super sturdy (does not rock during use)and its pretty darn quiet but (not quiet free) this isnโt possible but its not so loud you canโt hear the TV. I also learnt the hard way that the resistance pistons should only be used (they detach and reattach easy) during muscle exercise especially for a beginners. My only criticism is the inside measurements are pretty tiny for a machine that holds a 300 pound person and this issue comes from the big metal arms that hold the wire that attaches to the back of the petals. In other words if your on the shorter side and have a bigger hip and butt area (like me) this will be a tight fit but not and uncomfortable tight you can still move it just seems like a very stupid design when they made it to hold up to a 300lbs person, last time I checked 300 pound person is pretty beefy.

Gazelle Supreme rocks!
I've been a gazelle Edge user for a few years. I would skip a few weeks or even a month but always returned. What I love about it is that it's pretty quiet- compared to a treadmill or even some bikes. My trick is to get into a television series and only watch an episode while working out- slacker motivation. The Gazelle is the perfect machine for that. I always thought the Edge was almost too easy. Some days I would watch a movie for 90 minutes while gliding. Without resistance you wouldn't realize you were working that hard until you got off and felt your "jelly legs". I could lean way forward and way back to try to get more out of it, but my heart rate would rarely exceed 100pbm. I researched the Gazelle Supreme and felt confident it was going to be the right machine for me. I was not disappointed! Amazon had it to me within a week and I had it assembled within the hour. Great instructions- crappy tools. I ended up using the wrenches anyway because I didn't want to take the time to go to the garage and get mine, but the screwdriver was an abomination- L-shaped. Everything was packaged tightly and everything fit together perfectly. It's noticeably thicker tubing and sturdier than the Edge, and of course heavier- but I like that. I'm about 210lbs and feel very stable on it. Now for the workout- Like I said, I've been a gazelle user for years, and I remember the first time I used it I could hardly walk for a few days afterwards. Don't make the mistake of trying to keep you heels down, let them come up naturally or your calves will revolt! The first five minutes on the Gazelle Supreme I thought I was going to be in trouble- it was so hard I thought I was going to have to disconnect the resistance shocks (which is an awesome option for starting out). But after a few minutes I got past the "runner's wall" so to speak and was able to continue for a half an hour, long enough to finish my episode of Californication- motivation. I can't say enough about this machine. I had a steady heart rate of 145bpm for a half an hour. Normally I could only achieve that running, which I hate, or boxing a heavy bag, which I can't continue for 30 minutes strait. It's every thing I loved about my old Gazelle plus the bonus of resistance. The addition of the spring mounted cable is also wonderful to give a softer stride and the larger grips with the built in heart monitor is a welcome change. To sum it up- Why wouldn't you buy a piece of workout equipment that can work the hell out of you while you watch TV in the comfort of your own home? The option to disconnect the resistance makes this perfect for beginners or more advanced users. It's low impact so your joints won't hate you afterwards. It folds up against the wall or even slides under a bed if you need to put it away. It doesn't need electricity so you can use it anywhere. I think for $285 it's the best all around workout for the buck.

i don't use the heart rate monitor on it because it looked pretty cheap so i didn't test how accurate it is
I've had this for a little over 6 months now. I use it regularly at least 3 days a week. Assembly: took me about 2-3 hours to assemble on my own. there was a missing nut so i couldn't install a cover, which was nonessential anyways. it worked as described after the assembly. Using it: the display is really hard to see (even after i replaced it with brand new batteries). i would have to crouch down to get a closer read of it. i don't use the heart rate monitor on it because it looked pretty cheap so i didn't test how accurate it is. it could be accurate or not--i do not know. but for it's main function of giving me a good workout, it has been good for the past 6 months. i was getting a good cardio workout from it. lately, i think i have built tolerance to it even though i am working at my max. my heart doesn't beat as fast and i don't sweat as much even though i work out with the same duration and intensity. unfortunately, the device does not have an option to increase the resistance. this isn't the device's fault because it did what it advertised, it's just me needing a step up in my exercise routine. now to the cons: the device leaves black dust on my floor--from regular use and moving it here and there. even after 6 months, the gasoline-like odor from the device is still present. in the beginning, i thought it was because the device was new from the manufacturer so the odor was normal. however, it's been more than 6 months and the odor is just as strong. sometimes it is strong enough to deter me from working out because i'm afraid of how it'll affect my health. now when i work with it, i have a fan running in the back to blow the odor away so i'm not breathing it. overall, it's an ok device. got the job done for the price i've paid. no ability to adjust the resistance so you might built tolerance to the resistance like i have. the gasoline-like odor from the resistance tubes is a little overwhelming for me though.

recieved defective timer/monitor..but otherwise, great machine!
original review posted on 12/16/13 I have loved the gazelle machine since I purchased my first one11 years ago..this one is very sturdy no squeaking noises..i love working out on it..the improved handle grips only add to a more confident and enjoyable work out..you really cant go wrong with a gazelle, honestly... this gives you a full total body work out and you can easily drop one full dress or pant size within a few weeks of using this machine for only 30 - 45 minutes a day with week ends off..no lie! I whole heartedly recommend anyone to purchase one if they are serious about getting in better shape with little to NO impact on your back, knees, and joints... how awesome is that! ..you will see and feel great results in no time at all! 12/17/13 uh oh... I just did the original review on last night and up until this morning I had not tried to use the timer which I discovered does not work properly.. the only function on it that works is the pulse function..i have contacted the seller and await a response.. this machine is pricey and EVERY part of it should be in good working order so I will see how W VMInnovations chooses to handle this simple yet important issue. I originally gave this machine 5 stars but due to the defect with the timer/monitor I had to amend my glowing review and lower the rating... otherwise this machine would get 5 stars from me simply because it delivers great results.. for me and many, many Gazelle users the timer is VERY important because it tracks your progress and motivates you to best yourself and accomplish your health and weight loss goals.. hopefully the seller will respond properly and leave me a happy satisfied customer..i will post a follow up.

I got a defective product.... But still a nice machine
"This was supposed to be a 1/5... The Gazelle that i got had a defective part, but since i live outside the US, i cant just return it for the product defect. PERFORMANCE 5/5 I do gazelle 1 hour a day after work.... i am a seasoned cardio/extremely heavy weightlifter... and this machine doesn't disappoint!! Lost 3LBS in the first week. (1hr/5km a day for 5 days) STABILITY 4.5/5 I have been on the Gazelle supreme for a total of 42km... the screws remain stable & intact. When you go for one hour or more, the pistons start to make noise, but not really noise to be worried about. Screws remain tight after using it for almost 50km COMFORT 5/5 No impact on the joints. But highly advised to start out slow at the start if your not doing a warm up. ERGONOMIC DESIGN: 5/5 I really love the design... all my family members can use it... and its relatively small and foldable design means you can tuck it away after using the Supreme PRICING/SHIPPING/HANDLING 1/5 When it came in, the left foot platform pedestal... the cable that attaches to that foot platform, was popped out (compared to the right which is still intact) when i opened the box. It took me 3 hours of figuring out how to re-attach the cable to the left foot platform since there was a spring and it was hard to do it "manually" Then i figured not to use the small "metal barrier" & not use the spring anymore since the bolt kept popping out... so that the screw can fit in snuggly. Price is kinda high when i bought it from amazon. As i am not from the US. The Shipping and Handling was a HUGE amount to pay. AND AS I ALREADY SAID BEFORE, when i opened up the box, where of the parts were popped out (defective part).

Piece of junk
I am so disappointed in this purchase. I loved my Gazelle edge (back in the early 2000s) but got rid of it when I moved. I have always wanted a new one but it seemed like the price went up but I finally decided to get another one and opted for this one because of the added resistance which is something the original Gazelle lacks and would be very beneficial. I was not happy about the price for the supreme version but thought the resistance would make it worth it in the long run. WRONG! What a piece of JUNK! This is no where near the quality of my original. The original had similar instructions that are not the best but once it was set up everything was good to go. My only two complaints were that there was no resistance and that it was a little heavy and awkward to move and store out of the way. This model is a complete joke. Putting it together was nightmare because the instructions are not great and you need to flip the foot pedal/swing bar thing over so that it is in the right position and the instructions do not tell you this. They have it laid out as if it is in the correct position and it is NOT. The resistance is not adjustable and I had the hardest time getting the Power Pistons/hydraulic resistance engaged and locked in place. They did not reach the pin no matter how hard we tried there are no instructions for this. I was starting to think it was put together wrong or that the parts were not the right size. I found that I had to twist the top portion of the piston (the top piece that a circle with a hole in it for the pin to lock into) this allowed part of the piston to raise up and become long enough to reach the locking pin at the top. Once I was able to engage the pistons I liked it. It added resistance but again it is not adjustable. Personally, I did not find it hard to use with the resistance at all. It does slow you down a bit and adds more to the workout. But it is not something I would use the whole time, only for a more focused workout. Now for more bad... There are black covers for the wires that run from the handles to the computer which are cheap, not stable, and are in the way if you want to grip the bar to use without the handle bars. They are also in the way and make it difficult if you want to fold it up and store away because they are cheap and not stable so you cannot grab onto that area. Folding up was kind of hard to do as well and the legs even when locked into position for storage swing back and forth and hit me in the legs when I was trying to move it to store out of the way. Some of the screws also did not fit properly and made assembly harder than it needed to be. Overall complete dissatisfaction and I would not recommend. I preferred the basic model to this any day.

Very sturdy and well built!
I use it for gliding. I used to cross country ski when I lived somewhere with snow and it is a terrific kind of exercise for overall fitness. The glider is the same type of exercise, for all four quadrants of your body, both arms and both legs. I really like the resistance and I really like how sturdy and secure it feels using it. I have one artificial knee and this machine is extremely easy on the knee joints. Overall, I am a VERY happy customer!!

Good work out!
Perfect size for a small space. I get a good work out (work up a sweat) and I haven't used the pistons yet! I am accustomed to using an elliptical and feel like I am getting a very similar work out. It came with 3 DVDs which showed different techniques to use. Sturdy & easy to put together (needed another person to help me with some parts). A little WD-40 takes away any squeaks. It is very quiet and great to use while watching TV.

google for the video to assemble
The instructions are not clear, the video helped a lot. My unit came with one of the hydraulic cylinders bent at an angle straight out of the box. I called for a replacement cylinder which came about ten days later. The unit squeaks a bit but otherwise works well.

great piece of exercise equipment
This is my second Gazelle. I had my first one about 15 years ago, and loved it then too. This model has much more resistance and has a better workout. I was worried about the assembly as it looked complicated, but I just followed the instructions step by step and had it assembled in just over an hour. I love that there is no impact on our joints when we use it, even my 77 year old mother uses it!!

Setup was easy. I trained on an older one until recently
Setup was easy. I trained on an older one until recently. Two issues. The older units have tougher pistons which made my workouts good and solid. Built up good arm and shoulder muscles and broke a sweat easily. The new units have the spring loaded cables which actually raises the back of the foot a bit. The old ones have no spring and are a little longer so the foot is more level. I will keep the new one until I eventually find a used older one with pistons. The ones without pistons are a total waste of money, no resistance to make you work so you would be better off to go for a walk.
