First Alert FA-SA-700LLE FA-SA 700LLE Smoke Alarm, White

Bought to replace identical failed unit, not installed by us so no idea of age. 5 months later we had the first false alarm. Less than a year later, despite following all the hints, tips, instructions for proper use IT FAILED AND WE HAD TO DROWN IT TO STOP IT BEEPING AT ALL!!!!Don't waste money on 10 year batteries, they always have some reason why you are at fault or that the unit is not. Being woken 6 or 7 times most nights is not healthy, and nobody should have to put their heating on to keep a smoke alarm stable. We even tried hoovering this out and sealing it in an airtight container and IT STILL started up randomly, even in the middle of the day when normally we would not know as we were at work!!!Don't waste your money. We have gone back to the old square battery kind that have never let us down.

I’ve had a few of the earlier model throughout the house for the past 8 years and decided to replace them. The difference with the earlier model was that you had to keep replacing the batteries - this model has a 10 year battery (although you still need to keep doing your tests).Although they fitted on the old housing I wasn’t sure if the battery trigger on the new model needed to be used to keep the battery active - easy job of replacing the housing though as the screw holes are the same place.Overall it is early days to write an honest review on their performance etc, but if they are anything like the old ones then I’m looking forward to 8-10 years of safe living.
