NO INDEX
279 pages of detailed information with NO INDEX. A good book otherwise, but you should know that although there is a Table of Contents, THERE IS NO INDEX. So, good luck finding info on "teething" (or whatever) unless you want to page through the book. This is a cheap shortcut used by publishers who are perfectly aware that they're not providing what is reasonably expected in a book of this type.

Best for prospective lab owners
I bought this book and picked out our lab on the same day. I was hoping to get the time to read this before we pick our dog out, but that was not to be. I read the book after, and realized it is better for those who are still in the decision-making stage. It gives prospective owners great information on the background and temperament of labs, how to pick a breeder, what a breeder is looking for in a prospective owner, questions to ask of the dams and sires and puppies, what to watch out for and so on. I also bought a book on Labrador training for dummies at the local Barnes & Noble and prefer this one for training and for pet care. I was surprised to see some spelling errors and issues with sentence construction. I rated it three stars because I will not be referring to this one as a pet owner. It is great for those who are looking to get a lab, it is a life-changing decision after all.

Great book if you don’t have a “Special - Needs” lab
We rescued a yellow English Lab mama from the shelter a year ago. She’s about 4 years old, and it was obvious her unknown prior owner breeded her, mistreated her, and dumped her. I’ve been desperately searching for help on how to help this poor gal. This book is helpful for those with lab puppies. My sweet lab has come a long ways, but aren’t there any books to help first time lab retriever owners work with abused, abandoned dogs? I think my dog needs a therapy dog!

Long Time Lab Owners
We are long time Lab owners and are current Lab, Wrigley is #8 for us. After having Labs for a long time, we thought we knew a lot about the breed, but Linda has written a really great book that all Lab owners and lovers should keep on their book shelf. Even though Labs are an awesome breed, they are also complicated, so it's always a good just to pick up the book and learn things about the breed that we never knew before. We highly recommend this book, great work Linda Whitwam!!!

Tips for Training
I'm experiencing my first black lab so this book was helpful with tips on training and giving me ideas on how to keep her interested. She has really learned to appreciate the water in the lake and river nearby.

Interesting read
We were given a lab that was found as a stray. He has strong urges to hunt and run. It was interesting to me, among other things that this is common to labs and that it takes at least 4 months to get them acclimated to a new environment. For young and old dogs alike, this book covers it all.

What To Do With Your Lab From Pup to Adult
Excellent book on Labs. Depicting a base of what to know before taking the step into "Labdem". Giving health and personalities, feeding, and all the other aspects of owning a dog. Clean and detailed explanations of each applications, with referrals. I am on my 3rd Lab, a yellow male at 8 weeks as I write this and what a dog he will be with the help of this book and "patience" :)

Deep dive into Labrador dogs
I enjoyed reading this book as I’m getting ready to own a lab pup soon. The author has sections with advice from various breeders in the UK or USA. This will be a big help for me since it has been awhile having a dog in the house.

information and ideas about the breed and beautifully illustrated with lovely photographs
A superbly-written comprehensive collection of advice, information and ideas about the breed and beautifully illustrated with lovely photographs. Plenty of research has clearly gone into this book with so many quotes from reputable breeders. As an Assured KC Breeder of Labradors I have already added this Handbook to my suggested reading list for prospective puppy families, and can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in welcoming a Labrador into their family or those who already have one.

Very informative
I loved this book. It has so much clear information about Labradors and the advice from breeders is great to read. It did feel a bit like it was just printed from the Internet in a way though, for instance, it included links to websites. Very thorough when it comes to all the illnesses to watch out for.

Fabulous book!
A great book for new labrador owners like ourselves. I like the fact it gives real like experiences from seasoned labrador owners. Bella seems to like it too, as there are already teeth marks on the cover, lets turn to the chapter to stop puppies biting!

Well researched and written - an invaluable guide
This book is great from cover to cover. Carefully research and well written, it will be an invaluable guide to anyone interested in owning a labrador. It can be read right through or dipped into, and provides useful quotes from top breeders who really know their dogs. As a breeder myself, I will be giving a copy of this book to all new owners of our next litter.
