Q: Why is this so ridiculously expensive? other clip on speakers seem to cost between $15 and $50. Is it that much better sound wise?

The logitech's Z305 laptop speaker might seem a bit expensive but I need to say it's by far superior in sound quality to all the rest of the other manufacturers who make laptop sound bar's. Believe me I have four different types from other manufacturers and they all suck in comparison to Logitech's Z305 or Logitech's Z205. In fact I have the two different logitech models in use together for my personal laptop

Q: Why is this so expensive? When I bought one from another store a couple of years ago, I only paid around $40 for it! What happened?

It's a discontinued speaker, and all these years later it still outperforms speakers well over $100. I bought these speakers like 9 years ago and I still havent come across a single new setup that sounds better in both clarity or surround sound. It's even better than the bose systems I've seen. The only thing these lacked were more bass, but the bass they do have is very very clean. I honestly think they discontinued them because of this fact, they were built far too well for far too cheap.

Q: Will this item also provide me with a higher volume level of my current laptop speakers? I have a Lenovo 520i Thinkpad.

I do not know for a Lenovo 520i Thinkpad. So I cannot answer as to how it would affect your Thinkpad. I use mine on both a MacMini and a MacBook Pro. Yes. This amplifies a lot .. at least I am satisfied and I use it daily for all of my audio needs from movies to itunes.

Q: does it work with a toshiba satellite p750?

If it has a USB port (it should have at least 2),yes it will work fine!
