Very Uplifting
The reason I gave it five stars has to be because of the editors and the content. I knew a lot about this period of church history, however, so many true stories concerning those who lived at this time adds to the beauty of it. The hardships, plural marriage, sacrifices made by all the saints on all the continents. No saint was immune from trials. I felt the warmth, the tragedies, the love of families and saints alike. The faith that carried our early day saints to fulfill what Heavenly Father required is truly humbling to me. My maternal great grandfather hauled granite to help build the magnificent Salt Lake Temple! So I feel a deep sense of gratitude for learning more about what was needed to accomplish such an incredible commandment! We know that with Heavenly Father, nothing is impossible, though it seems impossible at the time. Our saints proved they could and did do ALL they were asked. Thank you for such an outstanding story. I am anxiously looking forward to the next part.

I Enjoyed It
I felt like this was a very informative book. While I felt like the first book talked a lot of people and events that I knew at least fairly well, I felt like this one focused a lot on things that I didn't already know. It was interesting to learn more about some of those events that aren't often discussed or that are sort of skimmed over. I was especially impressed with how the Mountain Meadows Massacre was handled. I felt like the writers didn't hold back on admitting that members of the church were completely to blame. I probably shouldn't admit this, but prior to reading this book, I didn't realize just how horrible this event was. I knew that people had died, but I didn't realize how many.I was also impressed with how the book didn't just talk about the events with happy endings. There were a few times when I expected a miracle, but a miracle didn't happen. I know that it will probably be a while, but I'm definitely excited for the third book to come out.

Well Researched and Cited, and, Most Importantly, True
Just like the first volume in this series of the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there wasn't too much that was new to me aside from details of little known individuals. I don't have a memory for dates, so even though I know these facts and stories, I don't always have a clear memory/understanding of when they happened in relation to each other. That these books have cemented that in my mind is a treasure to me.I love how these books are easy to read for anyone and everyone at all levels of ability and understanding of the history of these people and their times. They are heavily cited for anyone and everyone who would like to delve more deeply into specific individuals or events.Well done, and I eagerly await the next installment of the series!

“We have to live in the midst of the world as we are. We have to make the best of the circumstances in which we are placed. That is what the Lord requires at the hands of the Latter-day Saints.”
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is one of the largest religions in the world. This second installment shows the churches journey after being forced out of Nauvoo, IL. They finally found Zion in Utah and the religion quickly spread throughout the world. This book states historically significant facts about the churches early history. Like with every religion or organization, there are practices and situations that cannot be fully understood or even supported by modern-day eyes, but this book does a great job at keeping emotion out of the equation. This book does not preach, but it does open ones eyes to the history of the LDS church. It was cool to see my ancestor mentioned in the 2nd book (as well as the 1st): Peter Maughan. I was moved by the faith and perseverance of the early Saints settling in Utah, specifically though trying practices of plural marriage, Native American relations, slavery, women’s suffrage, and organizing Utah and the church. I’m anxious to see where the 3rd installment takes us.

Volume 2 of the saints was even more of an amazing story of the accomplishments of the Church than I ever could have imagined
I give the writers of this book a 5 star plus on the huge amount of searching details on every account and subject the people endured. And, ...believe me they Drd.I thought when the Saints came to Salt Lake their problems of being prosecuted for being a member of the Church were over. They were treated even worse than ever. OUR Pioneers were even more fighting for peace as they ever had. Unbelievable what the Unites States Pesident and Congress did to the Utahans. What terrible things they got away with. How the Curch ever got off the ground floor was amazing to me. These Mormons were very strong God fearing people. I had know idea how strong they lived Poligamy. was in those days and problems they had when the Manafesro was given for Statehood...and freedom from oppression.

It does portray early life in settling the Salt lake valley
I have part one, and part three of these books. Only drawback was the minor emphasis on the presence of Johnson's army camped and held at bay by lot Smith and other members of the church. This was crucial... But no mention.

FAITH PROMOTING
You have a problem with the teachings of the Church, read this book. You will have an adventure. You will see people who gave their all because of their testimony of the Prophet Joesph Smith and his teachings, especially those from the Book of Mormon, Another Testimony of Jesus Christ. Both Vol 1 of Saints, this volume and the next two will put some hair on your testimony. Those of you that are inactive, read these histories, feel the Spirit, get on your knees for the first time in years and pray and cry unto God to to dust off your testimony and reaffirm the truths that you know are correct. Those of you on the edge, this wonderful history book will push you back to the side of truth where you belong. This is a book that acts as if Samual the Lamanite is on your shoulder. And those of you who have a strong testimony this history will provide additional stories of faith to strengthen your existing testimony. I bare witness that this book is true. My our Heavenly Father bless all of you who read this marvelous book. It will do wonders for your faith. It did to me.

Fascinating history brilliant narration & learned so much
I have been a member and teacher in the LDS church for 55 years but never knew so much of the personal diaries stories and history...the narrator is brilliant brings me to tears sometimes with the personal quoted journal stories. I have listened to the books while taking my daily walk...no interruptions !!! Plan to listen to it again !! Margie Halifax Nova Scotia
