Interesting flavor....
Let me first say that I am NOT a coffee drinker. I've tasted coffee a couple times, so I'm familiar with the horrible taste. lol First, I bought the Nigeria and Volta for comparison since both of them had similar reviews, and in my opinion the Volta has the best flavor. With that said, the flavor from cacao is definitely not like a hot chocolate drink, the bitter flavor lends itself to coffee with a slight chocolate after-taste. If you're trying to find a coffee alternative I can see cacao as being a good choice, especially the dark roast versions. I use the Body Chambord French Press to brew the cacao.Pros: Interesting bitter dark chocolate flavor. Already ground and in a resealable bag. Cacao is 'supposed' to be good for you.Cons: Definitely an expensive drink. Like coffee, its an acquired taste. Cleanup with the French Press is a pain. Takes a long time to brew.

Where has brewerd Chocolate been all my life
This stuff is SO good! - I hate coffee - this is my new addiction. All the benefits of 100 Cacao but you can add a little sweetener and not lose them. I can't stand the bitterness of dark chocolate- so this is perfect for me

first brewed cacao
This is the first purchase of cacao to brew. I wasn't sure I'd like the dark roast, but now that I've had both dark and light roast I think I prefer the dark roast. It's quite chocolate-y and flavorful. It took some getting used to, and, sadly the only press I had was one that had been used with coffee. I thought I'd gotten all of the coffee taste out (I don't drink coffee, but most others in my family do).I came to very much enjoy this beverage all through the day. It doesn't seem to have too much caffeine in the evening that it keeps me away (green and black tea do). I add some honey and cream, but In the afternoons I even have come to enjoy it with out the cream, but still a bit of honey or homemade marshmallow.

This is a tasty treat that is definitely not like coffee.
I enjoyed this but I did not taste the chocolate flavor as much as I do in the double chocolate Crio Bru brand. It is still very good in it’s own right. The flavor is bold and unique. I don’t drink coffee. Never have. I did like this though. I had hoped for a little stronger chocolate aftertaste like in the Crio Bru.

Brew able chocolate
Surprisingly good alone or with cream and sugar. Sometimes I add it to coffee.

Good
The taste is good but I prefer Crio Brew but both are too pricey so I’m having to find alternatives.

It's like hot cocoa, for adults
I'm not a coffee drinker and haven't been one for 30 years. I miss it but never found anything that scratched that itch. This.is.amazing. It's NOT coffee, it doesn't taste like coffee (coffee beans taste like coffee, cacao beans taste like cacao), but it gives that coffee-experience albeit looking somewhat lighter than you would expect coffee to look. It has a really nice roasted flavor that coffee drinkers will recognize, but it's chocolate! I really enjoy a cup (or two) of Choffy with some peppermint creamer or maybe some hazelnut. It creates a great roasted chocolate flavor without the heavy, sickly-sweet experience that hot cocoa gives you. I can't stress how roasted the flavor is, in a very good way. You'll need to use a little more than you might be accustom to using when brewing (so says my coffee-aficionado sister), but the results are really good. I find the darker roasts to be more flavorful, which coffee drinkers may appreciate more. If you're not a coffee drinker but want to try this, maybe a lighter roast is for you.

Unpleasant Odor
I had really high hopes for this product. I found out about brewed cacao several weeks ago and tried to order Crio Bru from Amazon. That didn't go well because the vendor was just very unresponsive when the order more or less disappeared into the Amazon Abyss. So I did some research and thought I'd give Choffey a shot. I tracked the package relentlessly until I saw it on the Amazon map widget 2 stops away. Excited and looking forward to it, as soon as it came, I opened the package. Immediately, there was a strong, offputting odor. Now keep in mind, this is the first time I've had brewed cacao, so maybe it's supposed to smell burnt/acrid, but I still wanted to try it, thinking maybe it would be more pleasant after brewing it. I followed the instructions and tried it. I was able to drink it, but the smell was just really overpowering. I wound up adding some milk and sugar, which I never use with my coffee, and it made it more palatable. I should note that I do really like unsweeted dark chocolate and it wasn't the lack of sugar or milk that bothered me. I just think that this product is not to my taste. I'll probably go off-Amazon and try a batch from Creo Chocolate or the Chocolate Alchemist who sell direct. I suspect that maybe a less "charred" roast might be better. Crossing my fingers because I love the idea of brewed cacao.

A nice treat.
Compared to my usual Ivory coast french roast. Volta french roast is stronger. Stronger chocolate notes, and more coffee notes. This one may be a bit too strong for me.

Great value. Great product.
The best brewed cacao I have ever tried. Great value for the money. Not too dark but not light either. Blends well with coffee grounds. If you add milk and sugar, you get what is like a hot chocolate. Did not last long as it was that delicious. Be sure to use a mesh filter if you brew with an automatic drip machine.

Yummy! And soothing.
On my hierarchy of favourite roasts this one is in the middle. I've tried most flavours now and wouldn't hesitate to reorder most. Little bit of coconut cream and maple syrup make these heavenly. Love that it's an Albertan company too.

So, like most of you,I tried this jazz for reasons of health benefits. It's darned expensive!Brewing had been attempted in two ways: French press and using my espresso machine. Flavour was identical. Ground coffee beans are gooey! The French press is very difficult to compress after a few minutes of Brewing.Flavour is interesting, at best. Weak slightly nutty, bitter, and with a weird overtone which remains in chocolate products, but is tempered by time and sweetening. If you take your hot bevies black (as I do), there's not a huge amount to recommend this stuff over other alternatives. Sweeten it a little and it is better! (I didn't say good). I also tried just raw coffee beans. Very little difference. Interestingly, that nasty overtone seems to gas off if you grind your beans, then leave the grits exposed to air for maybe two hours?Result: I mix this with coffee in my espresso filter. Literally, stir the dry grounds, else the cacao forms an impenetrable goo and the machine can't pass water through at 15 bar. Thus it makes an acceptable drink, presumably lessening the caffeine, applying some benefit of the cacao, and most importantly, keeping my wife From brow-beating me over the bags of expensive, inedible stuff in my coffee cupboard!

Excellent product!!
I normally purchase crio bru... but this was a better buy for what seemed to be a very similar product- so I gave it a try...It is excellent!! I add a couple scoops to my morning coffee grounds before brewing... it’s divine!! Not to mention all the health benefits of the cacao- I will be buying again for sure!! :-)Also- I got a sample bag with my purchase of a different roast... that was very nice-thank you Choffy!!
