The mantra, "Stagnation is Death!", could not ring truer for Austria's premier extreme metal act. On their eighth studio album, Belphegor have drawn lyrical and emotional inspiration from the mystical celebration of Walpurgisnacht. This celebration of springtime and fertility continues to fascinate with its stories of hedonistic midnight gatherings where unspeakable acts of evil and lust took place. The band pulled both lyrical content and inspiration from these fantastical and otherworldly tales which lent themselves perfectly to Belphegor's peverse and extreme attack. With Walpurgis Rites - Hexenwahn, the new echelon of blackened death metal, they take their creativity and songwriting prowess to infernal new depths. Catch them on tour this fall as part of the first-ever Pagan-themed Heathen Nation 2009 alongside Eluveitie, Alestorm & Vreid!

One of The best! 🏆🔥👍🏻😎👍🏻
Belphegor what an awesome death core band. Their other titles are also cool too I am glad that I have discovered their music one night. And that discovery got the ball rolling more into their music. This title has a many good songs especially: "Der Geistertreiber" and seen their video of that too. Using it for personal consumptions too. What awesome artwork that's very much intriguing. It is very recommended and well worth it. Their titles are so much fan tastic and good to explore them. 😎

death metal overlords top themselves
Belphegor just keep on improving! Since their album Lucifer incestus, and up till this, there has been nothing but incredible and melodic death/black metal masterpieces, I can not compare them to anyone, these guys hold a unique style that is simply addictive! This album has some songs that just take me away to some dark place from where I dont wish to return, especially the second track "I am sin/Veneratio diaboli"..! It doesnt get any more unholy and melodic than this. Its a must.

Expected more....
Let me start off by saying that I love Belphegor. I was really excited to get this cd..... and was let down. They really don't captivate the listener as much as their other albums(Lucifer Incestus, Goatreich-Fleshcult, Bondage Goat Zombie). The music isn't bad, but the songs on Hexenwahn seem a little redundant. There are really no songs on this album that jump out at you. The riffs and song structures are nothing new and nothing that great. I would recommend their other albums. Hopefully the next Belphegor album will be better.

Brutal
Let me start by saying this is the only Belphegor album I've heard. Supposedly their previous album is even better, and if that's the case, then I really need to get that one, because this one kicks ass. Belphegor is billed as "blackened death metal," and you can absolutely tell they're serious about blending the two sub-genres: the songs go from melodic, creepy, nasty black to heart-pounding, flesh-tearing death, and back again. If this album is "weaker" than their previous offerings, then man, I need to hear their previous stuff!

Again an awesome release
Top notch as always. Another Belphegor hit. The Overkill of Death Metal. They never disappoint. Album for Album. Solid material. 5 star review again

Excellent, but could have been bit better
There seems to be some glitch w/the reviews here, as the reviews before mine are for Bondage Goat Zombie. Anyway the band just released that album a little over a yr ago and now they are back w/another full length. Walpurgis Rites: Hexenwahn see the band continuing the trend of blending death/black metal w/the same crisp production as the last 2 cd's. The cd blasts out the starting gates w/the title track and it's an amazingly brutal track. Next up is the I am Sin song which clocks in over 7min. This is a great song w/a killer riff, melodies and solos. Than comes hail the new flesh. This song is another face kicker and the last 10 seconds is like one of the best most pounding endings of any song I've heard in a while. They have a video for the song der geistertreiber. The video is ridiculously cheesy and bad, but funny. The song itself is a departure for the band and sees them playing a song more suited for a Rammstein cd, w/industrial and bass lines throughout, quite a good song though. Missing here are the chanting/droning vocals that Helmuth incorporates throughout his releases, and I really miss those parts, they were killer and creepy. I find this cd great, but I was expecting more, especially after last yr's amazing Bondage Goat Zombie. I think the band came back a little too quick w/this release and should have spent another yr crafting this. But all in all I have been listening to this alot, due to the fact that it is such a strong release and supremely brutal, I just think it was maybe a little rushed. The cd cover is very creepy and the lyrics are the same perverse and blasphemous kind that the band is known for. All in all this is a solid 4.5 for me and may make my top 10 list this year.

I expected more also...
After their last record, Bondage Goat Zombie, I certified myself as a true fan of this band, but this is a downgrade from that release, and the one before that as well. This album doesn't suck but it seems rushed. The songwriting isn't quite as solid as before, but I will not give up on this band...they kick ass. I can at least say this for them; they are more brutal than ever with this record. Very fast, lot's of blast beats, good production.
